  1. I really don't understand the mentality that many have that you're a bust if you haven't made it by the age of 20 or 21. While many believe the "Detroit model" is no longer valid, one only has to look at the two-time reigning Cup champ Penguins and their trio of "rookies" that weren't merely bystanders in their last two Cups but were major factors in both Cup wins. Matt Murray - 23 years old Bryan Rust - 25 years old Jake Guentzel - 22 years old Virt is still 20 so maybe he's not the problem, but rather people's expectations of what he or other rookies should be at a young age should be tempered.
  2. At least we can enjoy watching him live for a couple more years. I'd be very surprised if he's not with one of the big clubs in the BPL once he's 18.
  3. I really hope Virt eventually makes the team and goes on to a great career. But all that those top 10 goals show is that he's faster than a lot of junior players and was able to cut to the front of the net with ease. Nine out of ten of those goals don't happen in the NHL on a regular basis. He tried to play the same game when he first came up and it's why he was sent to Utica. He'll need to learn to work his tail off below the hash marks to get dirty goals if he wants a regular NHL job.
  4. Pepperidge Farm remembers.
  5. Wow it's nice to read some positive comments about the kids. From the highlights I saw, I haven't seen this much skill and speed since that toga party in year 2 of Commerce.
  6. Such an interesting pick. While size could be an issue, his speed, agility and dynamic skills hopefully compensate. Check out another small forward: Johnny Hockey - LW | 5' 9" | 157 lb | Age: 23 Gaudreau is 2 inches taller but 20 pounds lighter than Palmu (who's only 19). You can't hit what you can't catch so hopefully the kid does have an NHL future with us.
  7. If he can get to 185 lbs by the time he's 20, which I think would be reasonable, then hopefully he'll be ready to make to move here.
  8. An Italian in goal. My world is in balance again.
  9. Interesting pick as I was set on Glass, but I'm excited. Also a bit concerned that while he and Dahlen were dynamite together at the Worlds, when they didn't play together he wasn't that good. Good luck to him and hope he pans out.
  10. Every year with Canuck fans, it's the same expectations for our draft picks in that if the pick isn't in the starting lineup by the age of 20, they're a bust. Well, here's the age of the Pen's rookies who are driving the bus in these playoffs, two of which could well have their names on two Cups within their first 100 plus games. Jake Guentzel - 22; 40 NHL games played Brian Rust - 25; 112 NHL games played Matt Murray - 23; 62 NHL games played What's my point? None of them are under 22. In other words, the "Detroit model".
  11. In a covered stadium at that Alf. Hate soccer on artificial turf and the Whitecaps will never be able to attract top flight players until we get grass at BC Place.
  12. Disappointing second half by Juve. Were on their back foot the whole half and I don't think they even had an attempt on goal in the half did they? But gotta hand it to Real. They put Juve in the position. Modrić took over the game and just dominated in the middle. If this is indeed your last Champions League game, ciao é grazie per tutto gigi!
  13. Juve has turned this game around after Ronaldo's goal. They look strong.
  14. Game day finally here. Been so wound up for this game I already feel exhausted, and the game hasn't even started. Enjoy boys. Forza Juve!!!!!
  15. This game can't come soon enough. I've been feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas morning for the last three weeks.
  16. The road to regular employment in the NHL is littered with highly talented prospects who had great junior careers but couldn't take the next step.
  17. To be fair, it had nothing to do with the Provincial government. Kerfoot needed a parcel of land owned by Ports Canada, a federal agency. He offered a land swap which they didn't like so it ended there. In terms of grass fields, again, I wouldn't go blaming Pavco as there's not many covered stadiums with real grass, especially in the northern hemisphere. The Jays want to do it, but they need an artificial light system, which is very costly. University of Phoenix Stadium has real grass, but only because the field can be moved outdoors when not in use.
  18. Problem is he's coming off a fractured fibula in 2015/2016 where he missed a full season and now we hear he might need surgery for a shredded hammy. Hope it works out, but we all saw what a couple of serious injuries ended up doing to Manneh as he's never been the same since.
  19. I've never ever said this before, but I want to hear Chelsea Dagger many many times tomorrow.
  20. Vincere non è importante, ma è l'unica cosa che conta.

  21. The kid looks ripped in this video. Awesome. Can't wait to see him at prospects camp.
  22. Awesome. Thanks Harvey. Beautiful goals and assists by Alves. He looks rejuvenated in Torino. And now I understand the Super Buffon pic.
  23. A game I didn't get to see unfortunately. Oh well, have watched the second leg dismantling of Barca a couple more times to get me through. Getting my pvr warmed up for second leg already.
  24. I can't find this game on the TV schedule and it doesn't look like TSN is even showing it. This can't be possible can it?
