  1. Ya, I wonder if they are able to put him on LTIR for that period if they wanted.
  2. I agree that we should leave him exposed, certainly a better option than taking on a bad contract in return. A young player with only one year left might be enticing. Even with Motte and Lind protected, we still have extra expansion slots available I think.
  3. In the offseason it is pretty likely that the Ducks don’t qualify him and he becomes a UFA. If we have interest in the player, that is the time to do it. We will also have a good sense of how expansion opportunities fall at that point.
  4. He already said he didn’t plan on it. He said he isn’t at a point where he is going to take someone else’s job. I am hoping we hear something soon about a new venture from those guys. If they did some sort of streaming live station where they were “news” instead of a regular podcast a few hours a day I would pay my little fee for that.
  5. I (hope) we are safe that if Benning goes, so does Weisbrod. They are a joint cabal there making decisions and the ones that have been pushing out other voices. This season it is time to bring in a Presdient, fire Benning and Weisbrod... have the President and an interim internal GM to run the rest of the season. I have been beating the drum on a guy like Larionov for team President . We need a hockey guy that will get instant respect around the league. Pick a new GM in the offseason when there are a bunch more choices. If we need to fire the coach, don’t hire a new one... just let Smyl or someone have an interim tag until the end of the season when a new GM can pick their own coach.
  6. Yes... there is a reason we got those players.. no one else wanted to sign them for that money or term. It isn’t revisionist history when many folks were worried about those contracts when they happened. Eriksson is a bit of a pass even though he is the worst contract. It was a well received move and pretty much everyone thought he would fit with the Sedins. It was still obviously the wrong decision, and he should know better than we do. Beagle, Ferland, Myers and Holtby were all contracts that a lot of folks cringed at when they were signed. Roussel was fairly well received when he signed, but also hasn’t worked out. Any one or two of them you can live with... every team has a player or two on a bad contract. It is the sum total of so many of them that is the really ugly part for us. The exact same mistake over and over.
  7. Ya... tough to win with a large portion of the roster comprised of players that could be waived without being picked up. I am not a massive Green fan, but it is the GM that has to go now. Let the new GM assess Green and pick his own coach.
  8. That is a fancy way to say we need to be at least 23-7 the rest of the way... to be on the playoff bubble.
  9. At least we have two games against the lowly Leafs coming up so we can put those 4 points in the bank. ....
  10. Yes.. it is an inside joke, a pretty bad one. It was referenced a little earlier in this thread, but carried over from another one. I had posted that Virtanen wasn’t ranked as high as 6th on the draft lists at the time he was picked. Someone triumphantly posted the Central Scouting North American skater list to “Prove” me wrong... and spent several pages calling me names and that I was stupid. All the explaining in the world that you can’t conflate just a NA list with overall draft rankings didn’t seem to make any difference.
  11. No such list exists. I have been informed by an expansive 10 page treatise on the matter by another poster here on the matter, so I am fully versed in this. Central Scouting uses this list only for their draft rankings. The rankings on this list are how they rank players overall. The other lists “if” they exist are just cosmetic. Do not argue or you will be subjected to dozens of posts explaining this in excruciating detail to you. (sorry this is a bit of an “in” joke... but really don’t mention such things like some “European” List!)
  12. It is clearly because Laine wasn’t even a ranked prospect in his draft year as can be shown by the Central Scouting list below for 2016 ... and Virtanen was a 1st rounder. 1st rounders get way more kicks at the can than unheralded prospects. :D
  13. Fire all our scouting staff, hire Button and Pronman... put all the money saved into player development! Many years of history show they beat out our, and other scouting departments. (only half joking)
  14. Dazzle... that is a lot of words to show you still don’t know the difference between a list of players just from North America and a list of players from the whole planet... Still on full tilt and continuing to lie and hurl insults about arguments you lost long after I started ignoring you? I guess you are still sour about being made to look so foolish after weirdly starting to attack me out of the blue? You think repeating your error over and over makes you save face somehow? I don’t have to rebut you, your own words make the argument against your level of understanding. I know you are still mad and frustrated, that is totally understandable. A mod asked you to stop with the nonsense and you promised to. Adding the sentence “I am not engaging with Provost” while repeatedly quoting me, name calling, and engaging with me doesn’t actually mean you aren’t engaging with me. :D
  15. I agree. Maybe it is because I am the right age to have been into the old Sportspage, and 1040 had some of the guys over the years and had that vibe My morning routine was always to grab my tea and sit down at my computer. Check out of the interesting pre-recorded hits I had missed, then turn on the live streaming. I never particularly cared for Sekeres, but the other guys were all entertaining and informative. The 650 guys, I can hardly Follow except for Rintoul who I find pretty solid. There is one guy (Satiar Shah maybe?) who does the worst interviews. To ask one question takes about 5 minutes and he answers it himself three times before he lets the guest speak.
  16. I wonder how cap hit works with quarantine. He doesn’t count towards their 23 man roster... but does his cap hit , or did they make a special rule for Covid. Does he go on LTIR for his quarantine because he isn’t available due to health reasons? That would be an interesting wrinkle in trade deadlines if you could pick up a player and not have a dollar of their cap get counted towards you take until they reported (and the season was over).
  17. To me, there is a pretty stark difference between looking at numbers and using them to help inform your opinion on a player.... or forming an opinion on a player, and then trying to find some cherry picked numbers to validate your existing bias. It is pretty easy to see which posters use which method. Anyone looking hard enough can find a couple of numbers which make any player look great, and another couple numbers to make them look horrible. That isn’t how they are supposed to be used.
  18. That is about the most circular logic I have encountered and weirdly trying to create some argument where there is none. He said in a redraft Jake is taken at a certain point... not that it was his opinion. We responded to each other quite politely and he clarified it was from his perspective and that it wasn’t far from what the experts said. Fair game... totally accept that. Now you are offended and confused about it? I provided the actual redrafts done that I could find, not picking some that made a predetermined argument. It actually matters that they are well respected sources... that is how you selects sources. Posting a trade rumour from Bob Mackenzie has a different meaning than posting a rumour from “some guy on Twitter”.
  19. Money Puck has a VERY generous model that is way out of line with all the other ones. MoneyPuck's methodology ignores the first 20 games of the season and uses their win predictor based on 2008-2014 years. We aren't the same team and the (ignored) first 20 games of the season are a far better indicator of our chances. http://moneypuck.com/about.htm The other, more detailed odds makers show a dramatically less chance... between 3-7%. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html https://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/playoff_prob.fcgi https://theathletic.com/2318775/2021/03/02/nhl-stanley-cup-playoffs-projected-standings/
  20. Trading for Eichel in a way that doesn’t decimate our depth would be a really tough and bold prospect. One big issue is that he is a great player, but he is also locked into a huge “pre-covid” value contract that assumed a steadily increasing cap to make it more palatable. We are likely to get Petterson on a bridge deal in the $7-7.5 million range. We would absolutely have to re-sign Petterson and Hughes first, just so we still have a lower internal cap. I think Petterson and Horvat are a non starter. We are better if we can either spread those guys on three lines who get similar minutes or just slide Petterson back to the wing where he was also dominant in the SHL.
  21. Ya, I don’t really follow Buffalo news very much at all... but I have to think his inclusion has to do more with them needing another revamp than him being a main problem. Mayne it is just because he has some trade value compared with his on ice performance based on his draft pedigree to get what they might need.
  22. I am happy to trade them Virtanen and Rafferty for their Mittelstadt "bust" right now! Gaudette+Baertschi for Mittelstadt? Gaudette, Virtanen, Roussel for Mittelstadt and Eakin? Any combination that results in us having a lower cap hit for the bottom of the lineup? Eakin actually isn't a terrible, cheap short term fill in for a 3C until we can develop/find aother one. Buffalo needs yet another rebuild as something is still wrong with their roster makeup... the whole doesn't add up to the individual talents.
  23. I am not sure why they want want us as the middle man though? They just paid $650 million for the franchise, I don't think they are worried about actual cash vs. cap space. They could select only the minimum cap hit allowed during expansion, and the reap huge assets by filling the rest of it with taking on other team's cap problems and/or signing good value UFAs that other teams can't afford inthe offseason.
