  1. Really Canada???  Why do I get the feeling that the state government in California is next with this ridiculousness...

Service Canada employees who interact with the public are being asked to stay away from terms like Mr., Mrs., father and mother, and to use gender-neutral terms in their place, CBC News has learned.

@Jimmy McGill - Why does there need to be any reference to gender on a birth certificate at all? The parents themselves acknowledge that the child doesn't know what gender they are at birth, that's why they want an "X" option. By their very own reasoning, gender should be left off the birth certificate and only sex (male, female, or intersex) should remain.

Again, I'm not personally impacted by any of this, and I'm all for the rights of minority groups. I'm just sick of seeing them being given an inch and taking a mile. I hate that my newsfeed is always about something the 1% is doing. Why can't they be given equal rights and opportunity, and then society move on? Why do we need to constantly put the abnormal (by its strict definition being what is not normal) on a pedestal?

you raise a good point, the "X"  isn't logical on that document.

I don't think it helps that it gets so much attention over other issues, and Trudeau doesn't do his government (or anyone else) any favours when they mess up these kinds of policies and ministers have to issue clarifications. I'm very much for expanded rights but it certainly could be rolled out much better.

@Jimmy McGill - Completely agree. I voted for Trudeau. I had high hopes for him. However, his inexperience has been showing of late and I think the power is already starting to go to his head. The media takes a lot of stuff out of context and blows minor issues up, but at the same time, I think he's taking things too far.

Personally, I'd like to see unisex washrooms become the norm (this deals with all issues about gender/washroom rights). I'd like to see equal pay and opportunity for women and other minority groups. I want LGBT+ members to have the same rights in adopting children as straight people (accepted or rejected on the same criteria of providing a good home for the adoptee). But all these "token" changes are hard to get on board with. The government continues to perpetuate them because they can take  "easy wins", but I honestly think it does more damage to the equality movement. Things like changing the anthem to be gender neutral, and changing birth certificates and passports to include "X" as an option for sex are stupid ideas that entrench the opposition into their beliefs. I don't think a rational person would stand against the rights for equal pay and treatment, but they would stand against the token issues.
