What I think happens if the cap goes up by $4M is that there will be many more possible trade partners for players like Garland, Beauvillier, maybe even Boeser. It will make a huge difference to the league, not just the Canucks. Obviously, it's the Canucks that we're concerned about. I agree with this. The Canucks as a whole under achieved last season. Whether is was needing to play under a more disciplined system, or players such as OEL playing through injury or Demko out for a long period of time. I think that if the cap does go up by $4M it means that the Canucks will be able to make some deals and free up some cap in order to fill holes in the line up. I also think that Allvin has to be very careful how he manages the cap.

[discussion] cap clearing trade with Chicago?
Crabcakes replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
They want picks. Picks in return means no cap coming back and free cap means flexibility. They'll take players too but players who fit the right profile: 25 or younger and on good contracts -
If Barzal were a centre it would be. I kid. I'm content to go forward with Miller at this point. They should concentrate on tradeable assets imo. Like Garland. But I think that it's going to take 2 years to get to the place where they want to be this year. It's going to take a large (and overdue) cap increase to put them where they need to be.

The Penguins don't have a GM at the moment. Hextall was the GM who was interested in over paying for Miller but he's gone and so is their President of Hockey Op's Burkie. The new GM / Management group could take a year to evaluate the team before making any serious moves. He will certainly be occupied in getting up to speed re the draft in the short term so I wouldn't expect a deal involving Miller before July 1. The draft is June 28-29.

Absolutely! It's not the owner who's putting the brakes on buying out OEL. Rutherford may have but I believe that Alvin has nixed the idea. It's the dead cap for 8 years that has more likelihood of holding back the Canucks. Besides, if OEL is fit all summer, he won't show up to camp out of shape and we won't see another disasterous season.

He's not a golf pro. It's an Open tournament and open to anybody who qualifies. Miller is 1 of 9000-some people who are trying to qualify. There probably aren't many spots open to qualifiers. Tournaments like the Masters has a few amateurs playing but for the Masters it is not a PGA event and players must be invited.

[PROPOSAL] Conor Garland to Calgary Flames
Crabcakes replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
That's right, it would be a cap clearing move for a year from now. Buys them time to find a more permanent solution. -
[PROPOSAL] Conor Garland to Calgary Flames
Crabcakes replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Canucks get older? That doesn't sound like what Allvin / Rutherford are talking about. Tanev is 34 in December and has 1 more year at a $4.5M cap hit -
[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Conor Garland
Crabcakes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think the speculation from Seravelli is that something like Garland + (something good with no cap hit) for future considerations (ie nothing). Any team is going to pay a Kings ransom to shed significant cap because there are so few teams with cap space to play with. What would be a reprieve for most of the league would be if Bettman allowed the cap to go up by more than the predicted amount. That would be a surprise though. In other words, a very high draft pick is what it would take. Might we part with the 2024 1st? Would the 2024 2nd be enough? Or a good young prospect? I doubt the Canucks would be willing to move prospects. If it is so expensive to shed cap, it may just be better to wait until various players contracts expire like: Beauvillier (4.1 in 2024 same year as Petey renewed), Boeser (6.65 in 2025), Myers (6.0 in 2024), Pearson (3.25 in 2024) As it sits now, coming off the cap may be Kravstov (875), Dermott (1.5), Horvat (1.375), Holtby (1.9), Virtanen (500) plus however much the cap goes up which is $5.25M + -

If the Leafs get out of the 2nd round, it would be a miracle and we all know that God hates the Leafs too -
[Signing] Canucks sign Jonathan Lekkerimäki
Crabcakes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's just 19. I have no problem with him playing in Sweden at this age, improving his English and gaining some life skills before coming over to North America. He's also listed at only 172 lbs. Could do with a little more muscle too -

He was a point a game in the SHL playoffs recently. Only 15 games but it's encouraging for sure -

(Discussion) Boston free agent Connor Clifton

yes, and practically all of them are under 200 lbs. Schenn was 6-2, 227 and the only one capable of clearing the net front -

You heard what Rutherford said. Maybe they don't take FA's then. They really don't need another 3rd pair D anyhow -
This is the thing, they want the Norris winner to be able to carry a line and perform well regardless of who his partner is. Quinn Hughes is regarded as a D who needs a solid partner. This is his reputation in the east who don't see him play much. He has been with a 3rd pair quality partner and put up 76 points and a +15. A knock on him may be not enough goals though (7) I'd like to know how Quinn stacked up in the vote
