  1. DC Comics has announced that the Green Lantern will be reintroduced in the pages of its comic books as a gay character, although not the Green Lantern you're probably familiar with.

  4. Most people associate Green Lantern with the superhero portrayed by Vancouver's Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 movie. The Green Lantern now "rebooted" as gay is an earlier character with the same name.

    Alan Scott first appeared in All-American Comics issue No. 16 in July 1940. Scott was a railway engineer who became a superhero through the mystical powers of an ancient green flame. He was a founding member of the Justice Society of America, along with Hawkman, Doctor Fate and the Spectre.

  6. Scott's "Golden Age" Green Lantern wore a red shirt with a lantern logo and a purple cape with a high collar and green lining, along with a mask and green trousers.
