:picard: We could probably get Subban's rights for Tanev, Raymond, and Lack.... so why do we throw in three first rounders???

This makes absolutely no sense.

Edit: also when you say first pick do you mean first round pick or are you suggesting we'll pull an Edmonton and finish last for three years in a row?

First of all, I highly doubt Montreal would trade Subban. If they do, they would do it for a return that includes a single asset of similar value. That is, they might trade him for a young, star forward who has an upside akin to Subban's upside.

Montreal would not trade Subban for a collection of lesser assets. Tanev will never be as good Subban. Raymond might not be in the league much longer. Lack would be attractive to them as a back-up and understudy to Price, but there's no way dangling a back-up goalie will convince them to trade their best defenseman. And while the picks would be appealing, keep in mind they will be very late 1st round picks. And Montreal is not looking to rebuild. They likely plan to make the playoffs next season. 2014 and 2015 first round picks won't help them anytime soon.

Second of all, Lack is not expendable. Do we want to go back to the Sabourin/Sanford/Raycroft back-up years? Or do we want to build towards another dominant, 1-2 punch in goal? And trading away 3 consecutive first round picks would substantially limit Gillis' options for both trades and RFA signings.
