This is done at my local hockey team in Basingstoke UK followed by some stupid arm waving. Which is done in all rings in England par a couple, One being called the library for a reason.

I do not understand how an arena that is a sell out could be quite. Chants are there for this reason.

in Brazil they tell who did the goal on a wierd way.

for example, if Ronaldo did the goal they will say just like this...

"RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRonaldo jerney number 10! not number 8, not number 9 it´s 10! number 10!!! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRonaldo is his name!"

football players in Brazil use only their 1st names or their nicknames because it´s easier for fans to remember :) why would you call "Edson Arantes do Nascimento" when everybody knows him as "Pelé".and just for fun: "Pelllllllllllllllllééeéééé´!"

I'd like to see you run for 30 mins straight and then get tackled hard... see if you can spring right back up and continue playing! Since soccer is a continuous game, the players have a hard to jumping right back into action when they were body checked or tackled to the ground.

And a lot of times when the uneducated think someone is embellishing it's simply the players trying to draw the attention of the ref to a foul that has been committed, which is perfectly fine in my view. The occasional time that a player is faking it should hopefully be fixed with technology as time goes by. And stop pretending like soccer is the only sport that has the occasional diver. We all here all the whining that the East coast guys do about our own Canucks. Usually it's just a bad reputation and idiots who follow whatever they're told like sheep.

You don't have to like the sport, but to badmouth it when you have zero idea what's going on is just immature.

I've had this argument with other people lots so I'm not going to go out of my way but I've played and watched both at high level. It is fun to play, it's the same idea as hockey, you pass the object around with teammates and try to put it past the goalie. Simple. I question why I find it almost as entertaining as hockey when I watch it considering things don't happen as fast. I've concluded that if you don't have a large understanding of the game it's not going to be that exciting. You have to realize how hard everything they are doing is. Since you've played you should appreciate how difficult it is to receive a pass under pressure. It's not like you are carrying around some stick in order to hit the ball around. While running you have use your other leg as a stick. It certainly requires great skill, when you understand that it's very interesting.

Also consider, probably more than half of the interest in hockey comes from watching such a great league. I mean if the Panthers are playing the Preds in an exhibition game i think even I would find that boring. Since a lot North Americans don't know much about soccer it follows that they would find it boring. In addition, we Canadians grow up with hockey, hockey, hockey. Even if you don't religiously follow it pretty much all Canadians understand it and can stand to watch a game here or there.

I would encourage the doubters (especially those who are adults) to put themselves in a soccer game situation once again with friends who play so they can truly appreciate what its all about. A lot different when you're out there in the midst of people that can run, pass, and shoot. Once you see it up close and even try to receive or make a simple pass your eyes will be opened.

Your intelligence is obvious. It's a list of the most popular sports but you should have stopped reading because it wasn't a list of your favorite sports. Okay then.

Oh yeah, if you're brave enough to lace them up I guarantee you only one of us will rolling around on the ground whining.

These are a couple great points. I mean I could say hockey is just a bunch of dumb meatheads that keep shooting a stupid black disk around the boards and out of the rink. They're always falling down, pushing each other, tripping on their skates and running into the boards at full speed. Wow, just great.

They tell eveyone here in NA that soccer is boring and all you muppets just eat it up. At the end of the day its a non-stop sport, they play both sides of the ball, it's a contact game that requires great fitness, strength , and intelligence. It is probably the closet sport to hockey and you clowns just bad mouth it without knowing jack.

Those that criticize it because of the diving etc. just show how ignorant they are. That happens 20 times each shift in hockey but that's OK because they're wearing helments, shoulder pads, knee pads, and ball pads, and then they fall on a nice slippery surface. People don't jump up right away in soccer because any hit that makes you fall on the ground while running without padding hurts. Try running as fast as you can with hockey equipment on and then jump facefirst into a glide on the ice, now try that without the equipment in the park.

You talk about people bashing soccer for being boring, but defend it based on its tactics and "beauty". As far as tactics go, no sport NONE can match a cricket test match. And the beauty of the shots played and wickets taken match soccer any day...

Soccer has tactics, but not more so than any other "contact" team sport.. the " " is because I would say soccer MARGINALLY is a contact sport. Most serious contact is accidental.

The game itself is like hockey, but slower, on a bigger field. While any sport is fun to play, as a spectator sport, soccer is ok at best.

Just because its the #1 watched sport in the world is soccer, does not make it the best, or most exciting. The reason soccer is #1 is because of the worlds demographics. Most soccer players / fans come from 3rd world (whole of africa, and south america) countries where playing a sport like American football , Ice hockey, etc is too expensive, with no facilities / leagues etc to be able to play them. This is also why cricket is one of the worlds most watched sports. You dont need a league or specialised equipment to play.. .a ball, and 2 trash cans (and a stickt for cricket) and kids from the block will be playing it.

When you become an adult, and have the funds to pay to watch a sport, do you choose ice hockey, which you never had the ability to play because of cost or lack of facilities, or the sport you and your friends were able to play in the back alley until your parents came to get you?

The old story of soccer is the best because of sheer numbers is total BS. I grew up playing cricket. I love it to death, and there is nothing like watching 5 days , 8 hours a day for one game... but I am not a homer or an idiot, and know that unless you grew up playing it, it is a tough game to get into and appreciate.

Hockey is the ONLY north american sport that interests me. Baseball is an even more boring version of cricket, with the difficult parts removed...

American football / cfl is rugby for pansies

basketball... gawd... what a snooze fest... when the exciting part of the game (scoring) IS THE GAME, it looses all its excitement, and if they were 6 foot or less I could see the skill.. but being 6'6" or more takes all the skill out of it.

I would rather watch soccer than any of those sports, but it is still nowhere near the most exciting, nor best sport in the world.

For team contact sports, Rugby, then Ice Hockey... dont really care after that.
