CANUCKS FTW!
I agree with the past few years, specially with McKinnon and Drouin being sheltered, but this year I don't think it's the case. Drouin, Petan, Mantha, Reinhart, McDavid, Lazar, Shinkaruk are purely offensive players. Add Horvat, Laughton and Hudon who are excellent two ways. You still need players like Gatuhier, Girard, Anderson, Leier physicality/defense and for PK. However it is likely that they won't all make the team, 1 or 2 will be cut. I was there in Ottawa in 2009 when Esposito and Didomenico were playing on the 1st line with Tavares and our 3rd/4th line was Della Rovere-Cormier-Kane. It is for the same reason, Mike Richard, Brendan Morrow, made the Olympic team. I disagree Horvat and Laughton are both good two-way centers. Sure the team still needs guys like Girard but one or two is enough. Look at our past teams, reason they lost was because they had too many of those physical players and simply not enough offense. When we were winning gold we had guys like Hodgson, Tavares, Kane, Boychuk(he was good in juniors). Almost everybody could score. I don't think anybody finished with 0 points unlike last year where guys like Lipon had 0 points. Leaving Shinkaruk off was huge mistake.
Rypien37
Saw that coming. He did NOT have a good game against Finland and hasn't played overly great with the Tigers. The right decision. Side note: No idea why Curtis Lazar is being pegged as the first line RW. I know there have been concerns over Mantha's compete, but he is a no brainer for the first line wing spot. The purest offensive player on the team asides from Drouin. He also had a goal and assist today. Drouin - Petan - Mantha should be the 1st line. Felix Girard should be the last cut. http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/story/?id=439618 Called it.

mrsasaki
What is the final roster? McDavid - Horvat - Reinhart Hudon - Drouin - Mantha Rychel - Petan - Lazar Laughton - Gauthier - Anderson Leier Didn't figure out what the d pairs were but they are: Pelech, Ekblad, Morrissey, Dumba, Reinhart (suspended for two more games), Bigras, Pouliot Goalies are Paterson and Fucale

Willing to bet 1st and 2nd lines swap as any line with Drouin and Mantha should clearly be line 1.
timberz21
If Sutter didn't see offensive upside in Gaunce....what the hell does he sees in Gauthier. Other than the fact he's big, there is not much upside to his game. He's so soft for a guy his size, keep falling and not hard on the puck. I know a lot of other player could have been there instead of Gauthier (Domi, Shinkaruk, Poirier) but Gaunce is the most comparable player in term of style (Big, two-way guys). But from what I've seen so far, Gauthier is not really impressive.
timberz21
Time for Sutter to start rolling his best players. No more 4 rolling the 4 lines. The best players need to get into a rhythm. Hudon-Drouin-Mantha Reinhart-Horvat-McDavid Lazar-Laughton-Anderson Leier-Petan-Rychel (Not impressive so far) Gauthier I wouldn't mind sheltering McDavid too, incredible skills, but too cute for a short term tournament like that. Drouin's shootout was a simple move, McDavid tried to be cute. He could only play on the PP and be the 13th forward as well.

Comparing the first page roster to our current roster and you realize how weak this team is.
Tortorella's Rant
As we all know, some players on every Canadian WJ team will not make the NHL. Who are your picks from this team? I do recall some big names from previous teams that were obvious NHL busts. Godfrey, Chipchura, Legein, Pogge, Esposito, etc..

Primal Optimist
Canada deserved to lose yesterday for taking a boy to a 19 year old tournament. Canadian GM and Coach need to look at RNH at Edmonton and all of Edmonton's success with young lads against men to figure out why they lost the game and likely will lose the gold if they don't right the wrong. Lol I agree. Also its going to bite them in the A$$ for choosing size over skill. They picked Anderson and Gauthier to provide physicality over offensive players like Domi. Somebody needs to slap them in the face and tell them that its international hockey and not the NHL. Physicality=nothing at a tournament where it is purely about skill. Totes McGoats
Personally, I think Team Canada Jr Teams have been horribly mis-managed the last few years. Get the Sutter's out of the mix and we'd have a good team. Most over-rated coach in history.

Get the Sutter's out of the mix and we'd have a good team. Most over-rated coach in history. I don't mind Sutter, but they should go back to the red/white scrimmage and 35 camp invitees. That way they could have seen what 16-17-18yrs old would have done against 19 years old. Even though those younger guys are having success against lower quality opponent in the CHL, it's not a guarantee over a short tournament like that. When you look at the drive for five, 17-18yrs old like Hall, Kane (cut before injury), Giroux were all cut, and Tavares, Stamkos, Crosby, Ellis were the 13th forward (or PP specialist) their 1st year. But still a lot of hockey to play, need to peak at the right time.
Tortorella's Rant
Leier, Bigras, Petan, Hudon, Paterson, Gauthier Good choices. I can see Griffen Reinhart, Petan, Hudon, Dumba, Gauthier and Paterson, not making it big consistently. Perhaps a few others. Obviously this is a total crap shoot..
