[Proposal] Making us Contenders

Recommended Posts

It's quite evident that Torts has woken up the team and will be able to juice out another Cup run with this core. Time to give him some more assets to use and make this team as complete as possible without giving up too much future.

To Vancouver: Steve Ott

To Buffalo: David Booth, Van 2nd 2014, conditional Van 4th 2015 - changes to Van 3rd 2015 if Ott signs

Pretty clear that Buffalo is rebuilding so this gives them a couple of draft picks for Ott. Booth is added in to make it work financially and Vancouver gets their much needed versatile, do it all 3rd line C. Ott is signed pretty pricy but with his contract ending, MG can easily sign him to a discounted price opening up even more cap space.

To Vancouver: Stephane Robidas (Dallas takes on part of his salary)

To Dallas: Zac Dalpe, Van 2014 5th

Dallas is supposedly open to giving away a few contracts and this is one that would make sense. Robidas is 36 years old and contract expires at the end of the year. Dallas won't be a contender so it'd make sense to move Stephane and give the youngsters more time to play. Robidas would be the perfect dman for Torts system as he annually tallies 200+ hits and 100+ blocked shots - that's what you call stiff. Plus he has some offensive skill left in the tank and can chip in here and there. Essentially a cap dump for Dallas and gives Vancouver a big insurance depth dman if one of the top 4 go down. ...Robidas logs 20+ minutes of ice time on Dallas...he is very capable of replacing an injured dman. If he plays well, we can also sign him.

To Vancouver: Chris Thorborn

To Winnipeg : Dale Weise

Change of scenery for both players. Both getting below 7 minutes a game and are 4th line players. Both contracts expire at the end of the year. A good move for us because Thorburn gets over 100 hits a year and 50+ blocks for a 4th liner, pretty good.

Lineup, although it doesn't matter since Torts will play players wherever he feels comfortable:

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian

Higgins - Santorelli - Kesler

Burrows - Ott - Hansen

Archibald - Schroeder - Richardson

Thorburn (Jensen, Welsh, Sestito)

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Edler - Garrison

Tanev - Robidas

Stanton, Weber

Luongo

Lack

Now if Gillis could pull that trade that would be a miracle. But being realistic here! If your the Gm of the Buffalo, or Dallas would you do that trade? And do you really think that Ott is worth a second and possibly a third round pick?
