This team could easily be at top of West

We are losing games when we are dominating and outplaying the other team...I don't know what this tells us

We have been getting shots and chances but our defensive play has been brutal since the Kings game. Last night seemed like every rush the Panthers were on was dangerous and they created odd man rushes out of nothing.

It's who is doing the shooting that is the issue. Daniel is a shadow of his old self and his weak slappers from the top of the circle aren't beating anyone in this league. Hank never shoots. Kesler has a good shot but it's really all he has and other team know it...how often does he even get it off?

The rest of the forwards are average Joe plumber types with average shots. Yes they can score but not on a consistent basis like true "snipers" do.

As to the OP..."IF" is such a little word but makes such a huge difference.

it tells us that we're not good enough because we lack talent

who wouldn't trade this team straight up for Chicago, St. Louis, San Jose and even Anaheim right now

just make the playoffs and anything can happen.

LA's players clicked when they won the cup - they just made the playoffs but had a good team.

Same can happen with this year's Canucks... but they have to click at the right time (as with any team).

good enough to put it all together? If the stars align and witches cast their spells on the right people at the right time

To the Chicken Little's in this thread: The number that's really of interest right now to the Canucks is team shooting percentage, though. Since the Toronto game, the Canucks have 12 goals on 237 shots, good for a shooting percentage of 5%, powerplay included. The good news is that no team has finished with a shooting percentage under 7% since the Sedins have been in the NHL, so even if you believe the Canucks are terrible at manufacturing scoring chances you have to admit that they're due for some major correction soon, and more goals are on the way. They also now sit dead last in the NHL in powerplay shooting percentage at 6.3%, so that is due for some serious regression too.

Point being. The Canucks "puck luck" has been horrendous in this 5 game skid (and the whole season) and is due for a serious uptick to balance out the numbers for the rest of the season. The goals will come, and so will the wins.

Finally, I firmly believe some of the early season Cinderella's in the West (Colorado anybody?) are due for their incredibly good puck luck to go against them over the next 60 or so games and with this change in fortune, a tumble back to reality and down the standings will ensue.

you don't get it........it makes no difference what happens in the other division, save for the bottom couple of teams. They have to fight against the Kings, Sharks and Ducks for the playoffs, and they have a boat load of games left against the cream of the crop in the NHL.

Chicken little or not, they've put themselves into a terrible, terrible position

It is going to be tought to make the playoffs in this division. I don't have a big rant type answer, rather, we are simply not deep enough. Even when the Sedins regain their momentum, who is else is doing to bounce back? Maybe Kesler, maybe Garrison?
