Beastmode33
What we are lacking in our system is 2 top pairing defenseman, and more right wingers. We are stacked with 2nd and 3rd pairing d and left handed centers who can also play lw. Our lw and goaltending depth is good but not great. We also lack a superstar of any kind, but one or more of our prospects could surprise us, my vote goes to shinkaruk. The following is our 26 and under notables: FORWARDS Nicklas Jensen ($0.863m) / Nick Bonino ($1.900m) / Zack Kassian ($1.750m) Hunter Shinkaruk ($0.894m) / Shawn Matthias ($1.750m) / Jake Virtanen ($0.925m) Alexandre Grenier ($0.640m) / Linden Vey ($0.735m) / Brendan Gaunce ($0.863m) / Bo Horvat ($0.894m) / Cole Cassels ($0.620m) / Jared McCann ($0.925m) Dane Fox ($0.831m) / DEFENSEMEN Luca Sbisa ($2.175m) / Chris Tanev ($2.000m) Ryan Stanton ($0.550m) / Yannick Weber ($0.850m) Nikita Tryamkin ($0.965m) / Frank Corrado ($0.591m) Evan McEneny ($0.584m) / Bobby Sanguinetti ($0.600m) Anton Cederholm ($0.633m) / GOALTENDERS Eddie Lack ($1.150m) Jacob Markstrom ($1.200m) Joacim Eriksson ($0.925m) Thatcher Demko ($0. Rex425
I don't think we need to tank. Think with this line-up were going to get a 11-17th overall pick which in this draft, equals a top 10 draftee in other drafts. Hopefully one of the top 10 players fall to us. IBatch
What we lack are true 1st line player prospects and #1-#4 D prospects. A few could surprise though...
ice orca
We needed Mckeown. I like Vey but our defence prospects are lucky to be top 6 one day. Hopefully Benning gets us a offensive minded d-man next draft. Or through a trade.Subban's size has me uneasy. Has he grown since he was drafted. He was 5'9 or something last I heard.Tory Krug aint no bigger than Subban and look at the people drooling over him. Boston sheltered him properly, gave him the right partner and prime offensive minutes and matchups and voila.
Ghostsof1915
PK Subban, 2nd round Shea Webber, 2nd round Brent Seabrook, 1st round Duncan Keith, 2nd round Ryan McDonagh, 1st round Travis Hamonic, 2nd round Drew Doughty is one of the few top end d-men drafted in the top 5 in the first round. Maybe what we're doing wrong is we're not drafting a defenseman in the 2nd round. And when we do, its someone like Sauve, or Ellington. Edler was drafted in the 3rd round. Seriously we took Ellington over Subban. <cry>

At the time the 17/18 year old kid may have developed much faster than his peer and thus has a greater advantage. But to make that jump into the NHL they no longer have that edge as physical maturity gets evened out. D and power forwards take longer to develop as the are no longer the biggest and toughest on the ice. Going back the last 24 years only 3 D have won the Calder Trophy and none of those 3 defence won the trophy as 18 year olds.
