dura_mater
If we look ahead at who we could possibly have here next year and work backwards from there, then we get an idea of who might be gone to make that happen. So I figure we make a couple deals this weekend/Monday: Deal #1 we make with NSH (they're all in + Bieksa drops to 2.5m next year)TO NSH - Bonino/Bieksa/Biega/7thTO VAN - Ellis/1st (It'll be a low 1st) Deal #2 we make with BOS (they need to cut cap next off-season but still keep their foot on the pedal right now)TO BOS - Higgins/Dorsett/6th (can drop Dorsett as UFA to re-sign their younger RFA's)TO VAN - Eriksson/3rd Offseason deal:TO ANA - Hansen/4thTO VAN - rights to Beleskey TO PHI - Lack/5thTO VAN - 2nd(Gives us 2 x 1st + 2 x 2nd + 1 x 3rd in 2015 draft) Re-signs:Vey 2.500 avg x 3 (2.000 / 2.500 / 3.000)Matthias 2.500 x 2Beleskey 2.400 x 2Richardson 1.250 x 1 (safety signing in case young centre doesn't make team)Kenins 1.250 x 1 (give him 1 full season on 4th to see if there's anything there)McMillan 1.250 x 1 (keep the home town kid cheap)Tanev 4.000 avg x 4 (3.500 / 4.000 / 4.000 / 4.500)Sbisa 3.000 x 3Clendening 1.750 avg x 2 (1.500 / 2.000)Corrado 1.750 avg x 2 (1.500 / 2.000)Markstrom 1.625 x 2 So this gives us:Sedin/Sedin/Vrbata/Horvat/Eriksson/Kassian/Vey/Burrows/Matthias/Beleskey/Richardson/Kenins + McMillan/??? spareEdler/Tanev/Hamhuis/Ellis/Sbisa/Clendening/CorradoMiller/Markstrom Total 2015/16 cap hit 73.500 milNashville doesn't need anymore defenseman. You're giving up Lack for nothing. Why would we want Eriksson and why would Boston want Higgins?
ABNuck
DURA_MATER: "Nashville doesn't need anymore defenseman" - they do if they send us Ellis & teams planning on going deep need defencemen. "You're giving up Lack for nothing" - I wouldn't call a high 2nd in this draft "nothing" "Why would we want Eriksson" - you're kidding right? It's called secondary scoring...we could use it. "why would Boston want Higgins?" - 2.000mil cheaper than Eriksson, need to reduce cap to re-sign RFA's (they'll need to shed some salary sooner or later). Pimp C
Let go Miller, Richardson, Dorsett, Vey, Sbisa, McMillan. Maybe Matthias/Higgins/Hansen/Weber.

Mackcanuck
Re-signs:Vey 2.500 avg x 3 (2.000 / 2.500 / 3.000)Matthias 2.500 x 2Beleskey 2.400 x 2Richardson 1.250 x 1 (safety signing in case young centre doesn't make team) You have Vey as the highest paid longest term forward on your list. Vey has really done nothing to prove he should get a 3 year contract at that money, He has not been a difference maker despite some extremely premium ice time, If it wasn't for his waiver status and Medicine Hat Tiger history he would and should still be in the AHL. Maybe a 1 year contract to give him a last chance opportunity to prove himself, if he wants more, then trade him. His game is not suitable as a bottom 6 player and he certainly is not ready yet, if ever, for a top 6 role. Horvat is light years ahead of Vey in every aspect of his game. We must have room for our prime prospects to move forward in the organization , and 3 year contracts to unproven, undeserving players will not help Matthias is a keeper, and if you can get Beleskey for that chump change it would be great

ABNuck
So the general consensus is rework the Vey, Beleskey and McMillan deals? OK: Vey 1.750 x 2 yrs Beleskey 3.000 avg x 3 yrs (2.750 / 3.000 / 3.250) McMillan 900K x 1 yr Total Cap hit then would be 73.000 mil And I also noticed a redundant mistake...make the Hansen/4th deal for Beleskey by trade deadline (he's a UFA not a RFA)...can't wait til draft day then risk losing him to FA...gotta get him on the team now.
