Which is why, strategies can only be updated on Sundays before 5PM. Just like lines, if you are only changing 1 or 2 different aspects of your strategies, then just post that in the PM. Example: Line 1: CRASH THE NET Line 4: CRASH THE NET Here is the form for strategies (explanations and options below): OFFENSIVE STRATEGY LINE 1: OFFENSIVE STRATEGY LINE 2: OFFENSIVE STRATEGY LINE 3: OFFENSIVE STRATEGY LINE 4: DEFENSIVE STRATEGY: POWERPLAY STRATEGY: PENALTY KILL STRATEGY: TEAM OFFENSIVE STRATEGY: TEAM DEFENSIVE STRATEGY: _______________________________ STRATEGIES EXPLAINED: OFFENSIVE STRATEGIES. OVERLOAD: Best suited for skilled players CRASH THE NET: Best suited for big, strong, physical players BEHIND THE NET: Best suited for cycling, and setting up defensemen. Please assign one to each line: ___________________________________________ DEFENSIVE STRATEGIES: COLLAPSING: Force shots to the perimeter, D-men clear the front of the net. STAGGERED: A good mix of low and high coverage. TIGHT POINT: Two forwards stay tight on the point, and 3 players cover down low. This gets assigned to all pairings. ___________________________________________ POWERPLAY SHOOTING: Strong puck movement and good point shots. Two players in front for screens and deflections. OVERLOAD: Best suited for skilled players, lots of criss-crossing off the rush. UMBRELLA: One D-man at point with 2 shooters at circles. Great for one-timers. This gets assigned to all PP units. ___________________________________________ PENALTY KILL PASSIVE BOX: Creates a tight box in the defensive zone, keeps slot very well defended. LARGE BOX: Penalty killers attack the puck carrier, mantains pressure on the outside. DIAMOND: Covers players in the high slot, keeps defensive player in front of the net. This gets assigned to all PK units. ___________________________________________ TEAM OFFENSIVE STRATEGIES: DEFEND: Players will not take any chances CONSERVATIVE: Players are cautious about getting caught up ice STANDARD: Good mix of cautious and aggressive play AGGRESIVE: Defense will take some chances ALL OUT ATTACK: Players are only thinking about offense This gets assigned to the whole team. ___________________________________________ TEAM DEFENSIVE STRATEGIES: PROTECT NET: Players collapse in the defensive zone CONTAIN PUCK: Players will stay between the puck and the net. NORMAL: Solid mix of one on one and zone defense PUCK SIDE ATTACK: Players on the strong side attack the puck HIGH PRESSURE: Your team is at their most aggresive. This gets assigned to the whole team. ___________________________________________ TIPS AND TRICKS Here are some tips and tricks in becoming a champion in RGMG. Change your lines if team is slumping. Feel free to experiment, and even demote a top 6 forward to the bottom 6. Chemistry is important, so if something WORKS don't change it. For example if your top line is on fire, but rest of the team isn't, then move around the rest of the team not the top line. Change strategies as well. Just change SOMETHING. Make a trade. A minor one can help just as much as a big one. Some players may not be meant to be on your team. Rebuilders - Don't trade ALL your vets. Your prospects will need a mentor to play with. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Somewhat spreading our your lines can help. Have a mixture of different player types on each line. A passer, shooter and powerforward/grinder for example. Acquire solid depth pieces. A weak bottom 6 or bottom defense pairing, could potentially hurt your team significantly. For the most part players on your 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines will not produce as much as players on the top line. Kassian is a 55 point player on the first line, and probably a 15 point guy on the 4th. THERE ARE exceptions, Kucherov and Vrbata can produce 1st line numbers on the 2nd line. Pirri was actually BETTER on the 2nd line. A prospect who can put up 60-90 points in the AHL level will have a strong shot of being an NHL player. Be patient with 18-19 year old prospects, they may take time in the AHL level. Young players on your roster will not grow if they are constantly in a small role. If you have a future top 4 d-man on your bottom pair, and you feel he can make the jump MAKE room for him. Morrissey is a great example of this. Spent the first year in a sheltered role, and is now a top 4 D-man. ROSTER MANAGEMENT: The salary cap is currently set at $70,000,000. You cannot be over the cap for the most part. The only exceptions are: You are immediately waiving/sending someone down after a trade. You are in the off-season. You are in the playoffs The maximum amount of players you can have on your roster is 23. The minimum amount of players you can have on your roster is 20. You must have a minimum of 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders. Players can play in their off-wing, or off-side but it can make a small difference in chemistry. Player positions are fixed at the beginning of the season, so you must request a position change with a valid source in the off-season via PM. TRADES / SALARY RETENTION: PM all trade to Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrick Kane. Make sure to be cap compliant! I advise everyone to make their own personal spreadsheet with there roster, so they can do number crunching. You must PM trades in this format. To Pittsburgh: Brandon Pirri Alexander Edler 2017 Vancouver 1st To Vancouver: Rob Scuderi Salary Retained: 1.55M on Rob Scuderi Type out the full players name with no spelling errors, and type the draft pick the EXACT same way as in the example (year team round) and if you are retaining salary type: Salary Retained: "Amount" on "Player" Reason being is, I have an automatic trade input tool that updates the cap sheet, and it needs to be typed in a certain way for it to make the changes. As for retaining salary in trades, you cannot retain salary on multi-year deals. However, you can retain upwards of 80% of the players salary on a 1 year deal in a trade. WAIVERS / MINORS / CALL UPS: If you wish to send someone down to the minors, they must go through waivers, unless the player is: 23 years old or younger Players that fall into that age group, can be sent up and down freely, without the risk of losing them on waivers. Also, you CANNOT waive anyone with a contract: Over $1,500,000 (unless they are 23 years old or younger) Every team has 24 hours to claim a player that has been placed on waivers, and it will be based on priority (lowest overall team to highest). Waivers are TURNED OFF after the trade deadline. You still have to follow these rules (23 years old or younger OR 1.5 million contract or less) If you claim a player, you must keep him on your NHL roster for 10 games. To waive, send-down or call-up a player, post it in the thread like this: Vancouver calls up Jordan Subban Vancouver waives Tobias Rieder Vancouver sends down Bo Horvat Please do not try to sneakily hide it, or mask it in a big post like this: http://forum.canucks.com/topic/370654-rgmg-the-sim/?view=findpost&p=12911882 Make a seperate post for these transactions. RESIGNING PLAYERS: There will be 2 resigning phases. After trade-deadline during the season, and in the offseason before 'July 1st'. Patrick Kane is the player agent. PM all offers to him with proper reasoning on why the player should stay, potential role, linemates, etc. Also provide the average cap hit and years. Any player who is under 27 years of age is eligible for restricted free agency. Meaning, you will hold onto their rights no matter what, unless they got offersheeted (this is discussed more later on). Example offer (very brief, please expand more): Hey, I am looking to extend "player name". He is a big part of our future, he will be on our 1st line for the forseeable future.... We are a cup contending team, and need his skills. We are offering a "?" year deal averaging "?" million. Thank you. Please do not low-ball. Here is a general ball-park for contracts: Elite players: 7.5 - 8.5 million Forwards who have consistently scored at a point per game pace or defensemen who score over 55 points. Goalies who post top 5 numbers in GAA and S%. 1st line / top pairing / starting goalie: 5.5 - 7 million Forwards who score around 50-70 points, not quite elite players. Defensemen who log big minutes and put up 30-50 points. Legit top 15 starting goalies. 2nd line / top 4 / solid starter: 3 - 5 million Forwards who score around 30-50 points. Defensemen who play top 4 minutes, and put up 15-30 points. 15-30 ranked starting goalies. 3rd liner / bottom pair / backups: 1.5 - 2.5 million Forwards who score around 20-30 points, bottom pairing defensemen, and solid back-up goalies. 4th liners / extras / minor leaguers / prospects / low tier backups: 1 million or less Self explanatory. For simplicity/saving time, if your prospect has no contract, I will give them a default one based on the following; 1st - 5th overall picks: 3.75 million 6th - 9th overall picks: 2.75 million 10th - 15th overall picks: 1.75 million 16th - 30th overall picks: 1.05 million 31st - 120th overall picks: .875 million FREE-AGENCY During the free-agency phase, RGMG takes a different approach. All the major free-agents will have a general guide-line of where they want to sign, and it will posted in the thread. Examples could be: young fast skilled team, cup contending team, rebuilding team, top 6 role, play with a big center, play with a playmaker, play in Canada, play in hometown, wants X amount of dollars, wants long term deal, etc... Any player who is 27 years of age or older is eligible for unrestricted free agency. Every team has 1 chance to offer a free-agent, through this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1cAEs0CTdrHRfjHBnDwhIUHTtaIu-6suZQyJhZtD1f5w/edit# Free-agent list: TBA You can offer multiple players, in case you don't get the player you wont. Don't worry about signing 5-6 players and being in cap hell. You can specify in the form that this is your 1st option, 2nd option, 3rd, etc... After the major free-agents have signed, the remainder will sign with the team with that offers the best contract, not really caring about team fit. OFFER-SHEETS Starting July 1st of each season, unsigned RFA's may entertain contract offers from teams that don't own his rights. Should an RFA sign one of these deals, known as 'offersheets', the club has 3 days to match the offersheet. If the team declines to match they are entitled to the following compensation: You cannot offersheet a prospect with less than 40 NHL games. $1,250,000 or below - None $1,250,001 to $1,750,000 - Third Round Pick $1,750,001 to $3,250,000 - Second Round Pick $3,250,001 to $5,000,000 - First and Third Round Pick $5,000,001 to $6,750,000 - First, Second, and Third Round Pick $6,750,001 and up - 2 First, 2 Second, and 2 Third Round Picks PROSPECT MANAGEMENT ....
