He plays a solid defensive game and was fine in that role in Winnipeg in his first 2 seasons. The problem is that he didn’t see himself/want to be a 3rd line center. He wanted to be the guy that drove offense. He was not that guy.

Well he seemed to have lost that before he signed here. So we wasn't a 1, 2, 3, or 4th line guy.

That was clear when he was waived last year. He was done a while ago.

I wonder if he was shopped earlier if he’d be on the Penguins roster today. They were looking for a cheap bottom 6 centre. Can’t remember the name of the guy they got but I remember thinking Burmistrov would have been better pickup for them.
