The original impetus was the emergence of some of our prospects. Ian Mitchell and Nick Cicek are pushing for roster spots and we already had 8 regular NHL defensemen when healthy. Also Soderblom has been emerging as a regular NHLer when we are already well set in goal for the near future with Bob and Vej. We also have Shepard, Zherenko, Salminen, etc. pushing, so we wanted to move Soda somewhere he'd have a chance to play. Interest in both pieces was mild, but we've liked Beckman for a while and have had ongoing talks around Foegele from back when he was with Tampa.
