We have a significant need to improve our blueline if we wish to have any real playoff aspirations. This transaction is a step forward to improving and better balancing our roster for the near and long term. There has been a lot of interest around Kraken first line winger Andre Burakovsky but nothing appears imminent. We are also open to potentially moving Colorado center Alex Newhook if we can get a similar aged defenseman back in return. Calle Jarnkrok with the Leafs is also an attractive piece we feel some teams may have interest in with his rather low cap hit at 1.85m for this year and next. Pending NHL UFA Nick Ritchie could potentially end up on a contender this trade deadline. If he does he might become a trade target for some but his cap hit if 3.5m per season might be difficult for some to squeeze in their playoff budget. Last but not least Mackenzie Blackwood previous starter for the Devils prior to injury this season remains available for the right return. Blackwood has sported some really high save % games, consistency has been his only fault but when he's hot; he's hot. Definitely some risk without him signed with an NHL Franchise. We will need to make some tough choices though to build out our team.
