(Proposals) Push the chips in, Make all the trades

So clearly management doesnt have any patience

Problem is theyve backed themselves into a corner with this buyout. Theyre clearing enough cap space but incurring a big enough cap hit to improve the club exactly 0%.

Id rather they have done nothing, and waited for OEL to rebound, but alternatively, do EVERYTHING

Assuming Pearson and Poolman ride LTIR all year long

To Toronto:

Demko

To Vancouver:

2023 1st (Bostons)

Knies

Niemela

(Toronto needs a goaltender and they need it now, no more of this matt murray nonsense)

To LA

Hoglander

2023 3rd round pick (Torontos)

To Vancouver

Matt Roy

(LA has a glut of young defensemen who can take roy's place and could use the cap space, esp after signing Gavrikov)

To Boston:

2023 3rd round pick (Vancouvers)

Noah Juulsen

To Vancouver:

Derek Forbort

Boston frees up cap space (they must do so) and gets a decent RD prospect who plays a similar style to forbort

To Columbus:

Vancouver 2023 1st (11oa)

Boston 2023 1st (28oa)

Vancouver 2024 1st (unprotected)

Vasily Podkolzin

To Vancouver:

Columbus 2023 1st (3oa) - and draft Leo Carlsson

To Arizona:

Myers (after bonus is paid)

To Vancouver:

Future considerations

Arizona pays next to no real cash, can retain cap at the deadline, and flip Myers at the deadline to another team for a pick and have him off the books the following year.

UFA Signings:

Graves (5x5)

Acciari (2x 2.5)

Jarry (6x6)

Lineup next year:

Kuzmenko-Petey-Beauvillier

Mikheyev-Miller-Boeser

Joshua-Carlsson-Garland

Studnicka-Acciari-Aman

Hughes-Roy

Graves-Hronek

Hirose-Forbort (Forbort can play the right side)

Better lineup and added Niemela + Knies to our prospect pool

Goalies don’t get that kind of return

Juulsen is a pending UFA and honestly the kind of guy they can pick up on waivers

There is zero chance Columbus trades 3rd OA for a bunch of lessor mystery boxes.

It’ll cost an asset to move Myers. Even to Arizona

Forwards are fine, but they need to trade a couple of wingers IMO (Boeser and Garland)

Bring back a D in a trade, sign a UFA D.

Hughes - (?)

(?) - Hronek

Brisebois/Wolanin - Myers

Hirose - Burroughs/Juulsen

It's not perfect, but could be good enough with good goaltending (Demko-Silovs)

OEL was - 24.

How many games did you attend live?  Watching him live all year he could not turn and got beat wide to the left.

His offensive numbers were ok given his limited PP time but he wasn't anywhere near worth his contract based on his offense - and his defense was terrible.

Wait for him to rebound?? Ok you hit the nail on the head.  He is not going to rebound. Even if he has a better year next year he is still past being a player who is anywhere near worth the money. Buying him out is a money play.  And the right one.

So I absolutely think management did the right thing here and I absolutely think you are dreaming of puppies and rainbows if you want to wait for this guy to become worth his contract. He will only regress over time. Buyout was now.  Good move.  Benning was an idiot.

Never make that trade.. Canucks want to keep first rounders? Giving up 11th O/A -- 1st rounder 2024 ---- Boston 28th O/A- Podkolzin  ? Draft Carlsson 3rd O/A  Never Never.

Basically 4 first rounders for Carlsson

Won't happen.. Never

I went to a decent number of live games, 7-8

I watched most games though

OEL was bad this year, clearly had serious mobility issues. I liked how he ran the powerplay when Hughes was out.

overall clearly something was way off with him, he was not the same player that played like a great shutdown defenseman the year prior.

the drop off in his play was too severe to be due to natural age-Ing. And he confirmed an injury after the season was over.

waiting a year to see if he regained his prior year form was the best move, even if it meant writing off this year

Yeah but 3 first rounders ? you could draft some talented players..

Rather Canucks keep picks or trade a pick for proven NHL player under 25..

Carlson has franchise player upside though

mats sundin caliber player

would be an absolute monster for us for the next 15 years

and he’s ready to step into the lineup immediately

4x 1st round assets was the price to get Eichel out of buffalo, despite the fact that he had already announced he wanted out

It’d be a high price but I’d say worth it

Carlson is far and away better than anyone else we would draft with any of those picks

And that's why CBJ are most likely not trading the pick.  They hope to draft their franchise C1.   Davidson, their president of hockey ops and Kekaleinen's boss, is talking of getting a franchise changing C1.

CBJ has already gone through their rebuild and that C1 is their finishing touch.

LA already has too many Fs.   Gavrikov-Roy was the pairing that was so effective for LA.  Wouldn't expect them to want to break that up just yet.  Would expect Durzi to be available more than Roy - his UFA status in a year could shake him loose but likely for a much larger trade like PLD for example.  Clarke/Spence can't replace Roy - not the same style of game while either could replace Durzi.

Can't see Vancouver trading Demko.  Buying out OEL signals they want to make the playoffs and they'll need Demko.  Their D-corps has even more holes now.

So now OEL is the scapegoat for Canucks having AHL goaltending for most of the season last year?

What was OEL +/- when Demko returned healthy?

Also keep in mind that OEL apparently had a broken foot as well.
