  1. So when a player is a specific type of forward that's historically correlated to late bloomers (PWF), taking into account their developmental years isn't skewing the numbers? JTM is over a point per game in the 4 years he's been a Canuck. You can skew those stats as much as you want with his time in NY and Tampa on the 3rd line... it's not the reality and it is in no way indicative of the player that is on the ice and has been since 2019. Barzal hasn't hit a point per game since his rookie season and is a shell of his former self. They're incomparable with career stats because one is a late bloomer and the other peaked early. In reality, Miller is far more valuable and has produced much more since Barzal's entry in the league, and Bo will have benefitted more from playing with JTM than he probably will with Barzal.
  2. A bit too convenient to use a PWF's career stats, when Miller has averaged 90 points the last 2 seasons. Skewing stats to favor your argument.
  3. Samsonov was healthy and didn't start the season playing even though he needed a 4 month surgery + rehab. My point is, they're not comparable at this point. Demko is the better goaltender and has a team friendly contract at 5 mil for the next 3 seasons. Samsonov is also notoriously terrible in the playoffs, for what it's worth. That factors in his value. It also makes me question why Toronto are investing in him when this is one of the last few kicks at the can with their current "elite core".
  4. That would be Demko's all-time playoff stats (in 4 games 3 years ago )
  5. How good was Bure on the defensive end? How about Mogilny? They were more electric, Pettersson is more talented.
  6. Playoffs matter. One is nicknamed Bubble Demko, one was insulted loud live on air by Ovechkin and his teammates for single handedly throwing games in the playoffs.
  7. I agree, but it's not Petey at 12 million that's going to be a bad cap decision. It's our history of giving 4th liners 3 million dollar contracts. OEL, Eriksson, Virtanen, Poolman etc... You don't skimp out on the most talented player to ever play in your franchise (my opinion) for a measly 1-2 million dollars and say it's to address our depth. The Pettersson contract increase can easily be accounted for if we get rid of one of our 6 wingers who make 4.5+ million.
  8. You don't think a 100+ point 25 year old who finished 7th in Selke voting is worth 12 million when 16+ is the max contract? The reality is, Pettersson is the greatest talent we've ever had in this franchise, in 50+ years. Yes, I said it, not Bure (who is the most electric), it's Pettersson. He'd be worth every penny at 12 million. I think we'll get him at 8x11 and that'll be a steal.
  9. I would imagine no matter what happens he'll get his 1 day contract to retire a Canuck, even if he choses to retire this summer.
  10. Out of what I can understand, he's thinking about retirement, but wants to keep playing.
  11. Could bring some interesting perspective to what management does, how they think about acquiring talent, their approach at the draft etc... I'm sure he wouldn't spill any beans but could be an interesting vantage point
  12. Wouldn't it mean that he'll be paid to travel and work with his wife all year long? Doesn't sound like it took a lot to convince him to take this dream situation of a job
  13. He is the reason I started playing hockey. His 2004 run was just different...
  14. Hughes has been subtly and slowly turning into an excellent candidate for captain. He is the most competitive player on our team, defends his teammates (verbally) and handles the media incredibly well, without all the extra aspects that Miller brings, for instance. I think Miller should be the captain, but I would be ecstatic if it was Hughes as well. I do agree that Willander is clearly cut from the same leadership cloth that Horvat was at the same age. You could tell he was going to wear the C one day, and I get a similar feeling from TW.
  15. Sport: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment How is it not a sport?
  16. So is wrestling? Pre-determined outcomes don't change the fact that it's a bunch of stuntmen with 1 take in front of a live audience. WWE is a massive global brand, but I don't think the demographic really cares about hockey.
  17. A league where superstars sit 10-15 games a season, are adding another tournament... yeah, the players will definitely show up and play hard... They can't even show up in their contract-mandated 82 game seasons.
  18. European football has a championship match every year between the winner of the league and the domestic cup. It's not the most coveted trophy, but still a trophy nevertheless
  19. Which has been a massive factor in injuries. Also, the only competitions that players care to play for are European ones (UCL and UEL), which can't be replicated in a format where there's only 1 professional league. You already have the best players in the world playing for a trophy in the NBA (and NHL) alone. That's what's so great about the Champions League, if it wasn't for this extra tournament, players like C. Ronaldo or Messi would never play against Lewandowski, Neuer, Mbappe etc... This does nothing for american sports.
  20. Pesce is a massive trade piece right now because Carolina doesn't have the cap to make his extension work, and they have been on record saying that they don't want people to walk to FA (Pesce is a 2024 UFA), and would rather get pieces for him, not at the TDL as a rental.
  21. I'm starting to think Vintage is actually Chris Faber
