  1. Oh yeah I forgot to comment back lol well it was a start, I've been calling for toughness/skill mix for years... Will JR make that happen? Oddly enough he said he wanted sandpaper due to the tough west division so that might actually happen! If probably have a heart attack and die on the spot, then of course after I'm gone, probably the same season we win out first cup and I missed it.. and after watching since 74, wouldn't that just suck a$$?
  2. To that I'd say, definitely need proper development and of course experience but hopefully we get a success of 2-3 in the next few years because we need ELC'S badly with the cap so uncertain in this day and age.
  3. Even better.. goals in crunch time, I didn't see that, thanks. Great point, nice to know he doesn't disappear in the playoffs but turns it on under pressure? Yes please!
  4. I'm just happy he's 6'1, unless his name is Hughes we don't need small-ish Dmen who can't clear big forward's from the crease who would crowd Demko given half a chance, big stay at home Dmen paired with a smaller faster PMD is ok, that works BUT we need size and sandpaper and D isn't a bad place to have it because as we all know, teams will do anything to get a goalie off his game and we need pushback in a big way for a change, "some" but not enough never gets anywhere in the post season.
  5. I'm just glad it's another Dman, we have $hitty luck when it comes to D and injuries so unless that bad luck streak is over, we need all the help we can get. Maybe it's a family thing or something of that nature to why he's not headed to Abby but maybe that will change. Just glad we have another RHD in the cupboard, like we don't need that right? Not bad... Will take that for a second round pick all day! Well done management! Keep it up! I'm still holding my breath on what's coming as in trades but this is a nice positive.
  6. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/316794/filip-johansson Noticed his +/- and 5 goals in his last 10 games played so seems like he's engaged, if that translates to the NHL is an unknown but positive signs for sure... Not bad JR, not bad...
  7. Ok so speaking of younger Dmen, I know zero about Filip Johansson but a step in the right direction, keep it up JR! (excuse me while I do some research)
  8. Yeah I should have been more clear about what I meant, BPA at D, there always seems to be one within a spot or 2 and if it's the case where your not losing by any sort of a margin then I'd go for it but I wouldn't go overboard on it if you know what I mean, oh this works, we're picking at 15 as I remember, and say that's a forward, at 16-17 is a Dman of quality we're looking for, I'd go that route. Unless of course there's a deal to be made for a prospect or other pick.
  9. I'm quietly excited about Klim, I like everything about his play including his passion and self demands, gets furiously upset with himself at the slightest mistakes if he makes one, a true sign of perfectionism, and if he uses that to his advantage, he will be all that much better than your average player.
  10. Yeah he'll live, if that damages a player to the extent where he gets screwed by it somehow, that, I think might be a red flag but at his age? I doubt it, and it's apparent he has confidence in his abilities. Walking into the AHL and putting up *some* points at 18 is a huge win, plus nights like hitting 2 posts doesn't help but that's just bad luck. As long as he works hard on consistency and keeps honing his complete 200' game, we might see him making frequent call up in a season or so and then hitting a shot at 2nd line. He has the skills for it, just needs work and experience.
  11. Well I disagree it always takes 5-7 years, seen in happen in 1-3 but that soley depends on him and whoever coaches. I just think our forward group needs toughness and speed with some skill. I really don't care how it happens but the truth is until we get enough depth to cover for injuries, like all the other times we sunk for lack of depth, that ship has to sail. Once and for all. Maybe not every pick has to be D BUT I'd at least like to see it as the majority of picks if JR doesn't get young prospects.
  12. Ok fair enough, just meant filling the cupboards with D however that looks. Anything is possible however, I do know that keeping every pick we can, even late rounds since you just never know, a good example of that it a certain former 3rd round pick of the Av's in Spencer Martin, 63rd overall, and to top it off Pavel Datsyuk was 171 overall so one can hope but you can't hope in something you don't have so we have to keep our picks unless a good D prospect looks too good to pass up. Meh, who knows, maybe JR will load up since it's fairly obvious we are low on D depth.
  13. Nothing to do with rushing it actually, my thinking is load up on D for all our picks for the next 2 seasons which increases the odds of success or a combination of both prospects and picks but our depth on defense HAS to be addressed and I hope it's sooner than later to get the ball rolling and start development instead of signing FA's instead of ELC's.. which obviously helps out our cap situation.
  14. For years we've had great D BUT no depth to speak of so when players like Edler, Salo, and Tanev were often injured, we'd lose games because we had no one to step in really. My wish list is from the building a team from the net out philosophy, we're covered there in Demko, Martin and some depth development in the farm but then defense is another story, again we have "some" but if I'm JR I'm going all out trading for prospects from from good teams who can't crack a roster, I.e. Tampa, I doubt we can rob again but in that direction but then drafting for 2 years with nothing but D as close to the BPA as you can get or trade BPA forward or Goalie for a player we may have missed out on that has all the attributes we need. So I hope we load up for 2 years because forwards are a lot easier to get and draft more of them after the drafting D spree. Surely we can trade forward for forward for the roster and save on cap in one way or another. My thoughts are just load up and have more odds for a success or 2 (ish) and on ELC so all I'm doing is "hoping" at this point but the problem we've had since day one needs to be solved or we're never going to win a cup... Get it done JR! Thoughts?
  15. He suits up against the Oilers and opens a can of whoppa$$ on Kassian and finishes his career with a bang!
  16. Then Jesse Pul comes onto the ice and scores another moments later, he end up having an up and down season like this year in edm but stays consistent and helps out a lot on thee way to our first cup next season, looks a bit strange as half the team has been traded and upgraded, cup parade down Granville snarls traffic for hours!!
  17. Yeah call up Dubas and hire him, make it happen Aquaman!!! He'd do that trade in a heartbeat..
  18. Ok well, at the end of the day I got my assessment from his +/- and seasons before the last one in Dallas, his +/- was 9 and 7 respectively so that says when he's on a decent team he plays extremely well defensively and obviously that potential is why he was signed in the first place but plummeted when he played here and the disasterous start and lucky to have Demko finish, I think points to the Canucks, not the other way around.
  19. That sounds like line juggling Green at his best rather than giving it time with ONE line and working it like crazy coaching wise and it will eventually get going and then problem solved but look how many new players coming and going and then expect new players to fit right in even when the rest of the team isn't fitting either? Petey was playing like garbage, Garland on a funk, Bo was ok until he went on a year, Hoglander, he needs to work on his positioning, same with Podz, Boeser's thing isn't D at all, Lamm sucked at times, but you can go through the entire line-up less JT and Demko that had horrible stretches right up to JT saying we don't have a clue on what we're doing! Well Bruce didn't fix it all, we were still making bad passes and players not getting themselves open for D zone exits, not keeping it to short easy passes, lots of sloppy play that got exposed especially on those 2 lopsided losses and it wasn't Green so it still wasn't good on the last game, I'm not saying he didn't play well but neither did 95% of the team but to say it was ALL his fault isn't entirely correct.
  20. Well we never saw that out of him because it's hard to flourish without some sort of decent help which he didn't get playing on one of the worst teams in the league but if he stays or goes, I don't care one way or the other, we just need to have a good shut down 3rd line center whoever that may be and good penalty killing skills would help a lot too unless we stop taking so many bonehead penalties and throw away games because of it, which you and I both know happened a LOT last season.
  21. See the bullshi& of the writing, 3rd line centers scoring is only a part of it, Dix did fine defensively and that's the most important job even though his linemates weren't helping much either. There's a little too much put on the team turn around than Bruce, it was Demko playing as good as anyone in the entire league when he had to be spectacular and I doubt we would have won half the games we did with an average goalie, so defensive 3rd centers are worth 3 mil ish but having scoring numbers help and is a NEED for teams like us, now is the time for a young Burrows or Kesler but a lit bit bigger. Could it cost extra in today's market? Yeah but worth it. Also when a whole team goes off the rails, and confidence goes for a nose dive, once you feel like you can't trust your linemates (during the worst this season) then players usually try to do too much and make it compound when it's not possible. So Dix, in my mind, has a much better game than this season showed but at any rate, overall he's better than an "average" bottom 6 guy, 3rd line center but now the leashes have shortened here so any possible upgrades here in nuxland have to be done sooner than later and ELC's and younger players will wear jersey's if we have to pay large extensions for JT and Bo, who won't be cheap. (Sidenote) The Best deal JB ever pulled off besides JT Miller was Demko, if he had to be re-signed THIS year.. omg! Probably his agent would be looking for 8+ mil a season for long term because he's worth that. Almost bit the bullet on that one, and Martin, wow! If he continues to look that good at the NHL level, could trade him for a D and bring up MD if he plays well enough to be the starting back up and have our D upgraded which we need but that's another season off but we need to get bigger and be better as a whole on D and have it all through the line-up. Dickinson is hardly vastly overpaid, players have bad seasons especially with bad teams. Anyway this is no surprise, I'm on the fence about it. Tanner started to play a lot better and more engaged than I've ever saw him and a lot more consistent so we should get a decent return on him, as for Dix, I'd keep him until 5-10 games into the season and see how he does and then make a decision, and hope he plays well enough so the other team remembers he's better than average.
  22. You mean they won't from here on in? One can hope, bet the center of the universe is losing it's sh_t right about now!
  23. Dubas is a dumbass... Laff's deserve him!!
  24. Poolman's contract is what you'd get for a decent serviceable 6'2 200 lb Dman at 2.5 mil wouldn't be a stretch for any team to pay that's looking to add a bit of size to a smaller roster.
