24 years old draft 18th overall by the Preds. Were talking about the guy who played in the finals with the Flyers and I believe was part of the deal that sent Hamhuis' negotiating rights to Philly (correct me if I'm wrong). You think he'll be able to earn a spot with the Canucks? Though i would like Tanev to play then bottom pair with Ballard, do you think he can take the spot from him?

Hamhuis Bieksa
Salo Edler
Ballard Tanev/Rome/Alberts/Parent?

If we keep him with the Wolves we can't call him up without him going through waivers which i think will send him to another team easily because he is still young.

Just something I thought about. What do you guys think?

*UPDATE* : Season has ended for us. Do you think we let Rome walk and Parent becomes a 7th or 8th defensemen for us next year? I believe he along with Connauton and Sauve will compete unless Gillis adds significant players to our D

* Parent is an RFA

i really like parent, he used to be a top pairing defenceman with timonen with philly a few years ago

he is the dark horse on this team coming into training camp.....he could raise some eyebrows and push either tanev, rome or alberts out of the top 8

I dont think Tanev will easilly be bumped from a spot. He showed last year and in the playoffs that he can play at the NHL level. Unless Tanev didnt prepare himself this summer. I see him taking the 8th spot.

I liked Parent. He was a depth D-man but was a stay-at-home guy, which would benefit us well on the bottom pairing.

I remember a play he made, where the opposition had a 2 on 1 and Parent made a great play to block the pass.

Doesn't he have to pass through waivers? If not he would have been up her ebfore Tanev and we most liekyl would have had never Discovered Tanev's ability to play in the NHL.

Hey all, to keep this thread from getting locked, I will attempt to be discreet with what I am asking so the younger posters who may stumble across this thread back out of it not sure what to think.

So I am going camping with my girlfriend and a couple friends in a few days. Now, I know my girlfriend will want to play on the playground quite a few times each day, and we are going for 3 days. However, we will be drinking liquor during these three days, and it might make it hard for myself to play on the playground. That's not the worry though, the worry is, how do I stay on the playground for a respectable amount of time? I've heard from some male friends that liquor makes it easier to stay on the playground longer, but getting to the playground may come sooner than expected. So what are some things I can do to make sure that be-fore playing and the actual playing on the playground doesn't end too soon?

IF, big if, Parent comes in and surprises at training camp, he will probably be used as trade bait for teams that need a defender. he plays on the left side and we're overload on the left side. So unless we end up trading Ballard because Parent has that great of a training camp, I see us losing him by the end of the year or added in to a trade.

He seems to be good, but we already have 7 good defenseman plus Tanev.

If he's on a one way contract wouldn't it make more sense for him to be with the big club then? As opposed to Tanev who we can call up and send down without the risk of losing him.

I'm pretty sure that two-way contracts do not mean that you are waiver-exempt.

Two-way contract just means that you have a different pay roll depending on where you play - for example, if Tanev plays in the AHL, he gets paid much less than he does in the NHL.

However, Parent gets paid the same amount of money to play in the AHL as the NHL.

Only if we have 3 injuries at once. Say Salo, Hamhuis and Rome all get injured:

Bieksa - Alberts
Edler - Parent
Ballard - Tanev

oh god thats scary.

I say no, there are too many dmen ahead of him on the depth chart. Apparently he didn't do too well in the AHL either.

Parent was never that good. The fact he was playing in the SCF with Philly wasn't a testament to his abilities, it was a testament to Philly's atrocious lack of depth. The bottom pair of Parent and Bartulis hardly played. They just ran their top-four to the ground.

At this point Parent could hope to catch on with a team as a 6th/7th defenceman and hopefully be decent. But he's going to have to work his way up as apparently he had a less-than-stellar AHL season. There's still potential there, but at 24 I don't know how much there is.

I wish him the best, but can't see him passing Rome, Alberts or Tanev on the depth chart.
What is the deal with Mike Gillis, it always seems like he's sweating...

That is ugly. Maybe re-arrange the pairs?

Edler - Bieksa
Ballard - Tanev
Alberts - Parent

And only play the top four....

I agree with your assessment of Parent but he may still surprise a few a people and become an NHL regular sooner rather then later. Bryan Allen didn't show he was capable of NHL minutes until he was 25-26 years old. They say defensemen take longer to develop and it is difficult for a stay-at-home defensemen to get noticed since they aren't racking up points and the only attention they receive is when they make a mistake.

That's true. But if he wants his chance he probably won't get it in Vancouver. We have too much of a logjam.

Quite Honestly I could see the Canucks keeping both Tanev and Parent up at the beginning of the season carrying the extra D man upstairs.

I could see it being:
Hamhuis (when he gets back from injury) Bieksa
Edler Salo
Ballard with either Rome, Tanev or Parent...

This is his year to step up and I think he's ready for it.

Maybe he even helps bring Salo down to play with him and then Ballard moves up to play with Edler...
