I have a feeling, knowing what they do about the way the NHL works, they have decided to try to win mainly 5-on-5 until they really need the PP in the post season. Maybe, just maybe they'll fly under the radar a bit more with the PP in the post season. Last year it got too much attention, so everyone probably remembers how well that worked when the refs decided to put their whistles away.

Strategic incompetence, anyone?

I have actually been thinking exactly that. Our PP was the best in the league in early January. then sudddenly we just happen to stop getting PPs. They know what to do on the PP clearly, they've been pretty flippin good at it. Why not hibernate it until the playoffs??
