Hey, don't get me wrong; I'm a fan too. He was our version of Scott Stevens in that he could clean your clock with a big hit and he could score big goals as well. But he was pretty nasty too, like Stevens. He hit to hurt you and I remember many occasions where I would see him cream someone and think "Ouch, dirty hit. Thank God he's on my team". One thing I'll bet; if some soft Canuck player was on the recieving end of any of the hits in those clips and the hitter was, say, a Boston Bruin EVERYBODY here would be screaming blue murder about them. I respect Ohlund for coming back after his terrible eye injury and still being an effective player. If it really is over for him he has nothing to be ashamed of and has a great career to remember.

Bumping this with a new quote from Ohlund today. Doesn't sound like he has improved

News1130 Sports@News1130Sports 10h

Former #Canuck Mattias Ohlund tells St. Petersburgh Times - "My chances of playing again are very minor."

Very sad. I always thought he was one of our classiest players. And his departure was rather unceremonious.

Good luck to him

One of my favourite players when he was with Vancouver. Sucks, he can't play right now and doesn't seem like he'll play in the future.

Really? Because none of those were headshots. He hits them in the CHEST because he's facing them, except Zetterburg got hit from the side.

I find that any big hit is a "headshot" these days. At least according to Shannaban & Co.

Hopefully he'll get better soon and one day step back in the rink again.

Man, I miss this guy. Was such a solid force on the blueline. It's sad that injuries are gonna be his undoing. I guess that just comes with his playstyle.

Good move by Gillis to let Yzerman spend Tampa's cash on him and we picked up Ehrhoff with the space.

? sure they were hard hits but not to the head and all reletively clean maybe the ones in the third were higher hits but the rest were perfect body hits. hopefully edler grows some confidence and uses his size like ohlund did

Gillis letting him go paid off. I like Ohlund a lot but you can't keep guys forever.

If the Canucks had Ohlund during 2011, the Canucks would have beaten Boston.

He was more important to this organization than I previously thought, after looking back on his career. Also kind of reminds me of Sergei Zubov in terms of how underated he was both as a player and a leader. Hope he at least gets inducted into the ROH.

Exactly the type of player the Canucks miss right now, and the type that are winning Cups every year. Big, strong, physical and frightening to play against in front of our own net, it's a shame there aren't many guys like Ohlund.

Willie Mitchell, Matthias Ohlund, Kevin Bieksa at his peak and an emerging Edler in 2007 was probably the most solid our defence has ever been.

Edler had all the tools to be another Ohlund. I am taking the easy way out and suggesting Edler's coaching has failed his development. I am hoping that a new coach changes that. Ohlund's d-game was far superior to Edler's up to this point.
