[Discussion] Roberto Luongo Trade Thread 5.0

Recommended Posts

Not irrelevant. If you're taken that high in the draft, there are a lot of expectations. Remember how good Schneider was in the AHL? 84-45-5, .920 SVP, 2.31 GAA, 12 SO? Well, Bernier was 54-46-11, .927 SVP, 2.19 GAA, 14 SO. Ridiculous.

And really, he's been good enough at the NHL level to not think that he won't live up to his potential. Situationally, it's just a bad fit; again, like Schneider in Vancouver, behind Luongo. Jonathan Quick basically beat him to the punch, and he's not going anywhere now.

I'm not sure what the market is for Bernier, exactly, but you've gotta think that there'd be a whole heap of interest by the usual suspects (and many more, realistically) that are involved in the Luongo proposals.

As a matter of fact, they could use Malhotra.

They have been getting absolutely owned in the faceoff circle lately and their last game against Ottawa they went 15 for 52. If you're having such a hard time figuring out why they aren't winning, you don't need to look much further than their top two centers - one can't play hockey in his own end of the ice (did you see the Ottawa game?), the other is 157lbs - a nightmare to find the right matchups for these two - over their head. Hodgson and Ennis are not ready to play those roles. Derek Roy's gotta be looking pretty good right about now.

Yeah, I'm sure they're losing because they don't have a $2.5M "faceoff specialist". That ought to be the reason.

And Derek Roy probably isn't the best idea if size is a concern; all 5'9" and 184 lbs. of him. They probably don't miss his $4M cap hit, either, which has currently translated to 0 goals and 3 assists in Dallas. I suspect that they're very content with Cody.

Why are you and others talking about this, its quite pointless, if all you guys are here to do is argue about nonsense than go join a debate club or some sH@#. Seriously this is a trade Lu discussion thread, stay on topic..its rather annoying going through pages of pages of useless info.

What do you think we could get for sure for Lu, tell me that ES..

My best guess is that we are seeking a big and tough young blueliner, a big 3rd line centre and a back-up goalie. If he cam squeeze a pick too he'll take it, of course. Something like Matthias, Ellerby, Clemmensen and a 2nd for Lou and another smallish piece. If it differs much more than this in shape and player molds I'll be pretty surprised but, on the other hand, MG has always surprised me before.

The only thing I've heard about Bernier is the Leafs have passed. I don't remember if that before or after the Burke firing, but it would makes sense (as you've explained) that they wouldn't bother making a lateral move for a goalie that isn't more proven or established than the two they already have. The market for Bernier isn't the same as the market for Luongo, although there may be some overlap for teams with no hope in net.
