The Church would be better off choosing someone young, liberal, and more amenable to changing the Church's hardline stances on issues like gay marriage, contraception, etc.

They do that and everything they've stood for and taught for thousands of years becomes a lie. No, it is time for the church to shutter the windows and take down the sign. They can not rewrite the instruction manual.

That's what they've done this whole time.. no point in stopping now.

Wasn't random. It was a shot at the OP and others who assume there has to be a scandal instead of waiting for the facts.
I find it quite hypocritical, especially when a lot of the same people complain about religious people lacking facts in other discussions.

I submit that there are more than two kinds of people in the world. For the record, I am a Catholic myself. That doesn't mean that I have to turn a blind eye to the clear facts of this case. Benedict can still walk and talk. John Paul 2 could barely say a word in his latter years yet he persevered. Taken with the fact that it is most irregular for a Pope to resign rather than die in office, and that Benedict is perhaps the most embattled and controversial Popes in recent history, one can come to the reasonable assumption that something is indeed amiss.

Oh, Heretic. Once again, you put yourself at odds with others seemingly for the sake of martyrdom. You're not contrarian in a constructive or thoughtful way.

It's called speculation, and there are some legitimate factors making it reasonable to propose. It isn't the same as religious belief, which is put forth as fact (gospel), and not speculation.

You demonstrate once again why it's hard to take you seriously. You have essentially sabotaged what could have been a good point, especially if you had focused on the post about the Pope looking for a new job (thinly veiled pornography, no less, in case you're not familiar with that couch). But even then, being overly sensitive is pointless. Benedict was unpopular for good reason and poking fun at him should not be shocking or offensive.

LOL Awesome post!

On to the topic though: I know the truth about why he is resigning and that is to fulfill his boyhood dream of Galactic conquest!

How so?

All I'm suggesting is that there's more than one possibility.

Maybe he's resigning cause he can't stand that the church is involved in so many cover ups?

Remember...I'm not Catholic...I just tend to believe that there are 3 sides to every story.

Given the history of the Catholic Church (and the recent disclosure of documents showing protection of pedophile priests that reached the Shoes of the German Fisherman), it is a fair inference to make.

Don't pay enough attention to Catholicism to have much of an opinion on this. However, if in fact the only reason at the end of this is simply because of his age, that is reason enough to step aside. In the same way that the new Pope shouldn't be a 25 year old, I don't think a Pope in his 80s is the best thing for the church either.

I have a cognitive disorder? At least I can form sentences people can understand. You just argue with everyone's point of view no matter what it is. You have no opinion of your own other than the opposite of popular opinion. Finally I was making a joke and its obvious to me that you zero sense of humor and that you have something jammed way too far up your rear end. You need to take a break from CDC for your own mental health, but maybe its too late for that. You embody every cynical and negative attribute one could place onto CDC. That is all.

As far as forming sentences...

Should be "Finally, I was making a joke and its obvious to me that you have zero sense of humour"...

So tell me, what are your attributes in contributing to the CDC society?

There are two different types of CDC Threads. They either turn into:

1. Trade Raymond, Ballard, and a 1st.

or

2. Religious posters and Atheist posters who are unable to play nice.

Sorry I would let you know what "...based on every post you're either replied to me or just referenced me..." what this is supposed to mean but only someone working with 11k+ of useless posts could tell anyone what that means.

I am sorry you were bullied all your life. It makes me sad it really does and I don't want add to your suffering, just stop being a Martyr cause you're not, it's just getting pathetic.

edit: Just so you know I said forming sentences people can understand, which obviously you did ;)

Realists take a realistic view based on past history and make rational inferences.

Those operating on blind faith are ruled by bias.

I do not see the flaw in the first approach as it is based upon facts and rational decision making while the second approach is not.

'making rational inferences' can be deeply flawed for a number of reasons. People are not robotically making unbiased, 100% rational inferences. Do you actually think that?
