{Proposal} 4 Trades - Stack the team for a Cup run? Its worked for other teams in the past.

Recommended Posts

- First of all - Manny Malhotra & David Booth to LTIR

- This ends up with 50/50 contracts

- Canucks have $4,281,042 available in extra salary at the deadline

- Canucks have about $400,000~ in cap space after

To Philadelphia: Roberto Luongo, Jordan Schroeder, Kevin Connauton + VAN 2013 2nd

To Vancouver: Luke Schenn & Brayden Schenn

B. Schenn = Luongo

L. Schenn = Schroeder, Connauton + 2nd

REASONS: Ilya Bryzgalov isn't cutting it in Philly. Luongo is a very good upgrade. Flyers have a lot of centers, making on of the two young guys available. Couturier may be a better top-6 candidate for his size to go along with other bigger players like Simmonds, Voracek & Hartnell. For Luke, a couple good prospects plus a high pick should be reasonable, since they have to cut salary. We also have to cut salary, but Luke would fit under our cap with the departure of Ballard and the re-signing of Tanev.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Dallas: Billy Sweatt (RFA) + VAN 2013 3rd & 5th + VAN 2014 5th

To Vancouver: Jaromir Jagr (UFA) & Derek Roy (UFA)

Jagr (UFA) = Sweatt (RFA) + 2013 3rd

Roy (UFA) = 2013 5th & 2014 5th

REASONS: Jagr is the veteran with some game left in the tank that would put us over the top. Roy is the playmaker that Kesler needs. A prospect and three later round picks is what it would take for two pending UFA's for a cup run. We can always try to trade their rights (Roy's at least) for a draft pick later.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Phoenix: Keith Ballard, Anton Rodin (RFA) + VAN 2014 1st

To Vancouver: Martin Hanzal & Jason LaBarbera (UFA)

Hanzal = Ballard & 2014 1st

LaBarbera (UFA) = Rodin (RFA)

REASONS: Ballard had most of his success in Phoenix with Zbynek Michalek. They could potentially be re-united for some success. Hanzal is big 3rd line center (6'6 235) with some scoring touch and pretty good at faceoffs. He spends time competing for top-line minutes and play time versus Matthew Lombardi and Antoine Vermette, who are both better than Hanzal at faceoffs and show better offensive flair at times. Phoenix has 4 centers that are all above 50% (Vermette, Lombardi, Chipchura & Gordon). LaBarbera had success as a backup here before, so a mid pick along with a prospect and a defender who had success in Phoenix before might be enough to get that type of package IF the Coyotes keep falling.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To NY Islanders: Andrew Alberts + VAN 2014 3rd

To Vancouver: Lubomir Visnovsky (UFA)

REASONS: Not much to explain, a good puck moving defender and powerplay guy who doesn't look to re-sign in NY. A future pick plus a contract is probably a good return for him. If other teams want to overpay, so be it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OUR PICKS IN 2013 & 2014

2013 = 1st, 4th, 6th & 7th

2014 = 2nd, 4th, 6th & 7th

- Remember: We can get some draft picks back for some of our players' UFA/RFA rights

LTI doesn't remove their cap hits, it just allows us to exceed the cap to bring in a replacement. We don't know at this point if Booth will qualify for that either, but we can't put them on LTI to 'build' more cap space for the deadline.

None are accepted aside from the NYI IMO.

I can't see Philly moving both Schenns, especially when one is a young 2C and the other is a young 1 pair defender for them.

The don't think Roy and Jagr are going to cost what alot here do, there value as rentals isn't all that high. But with Dallas contending for the playoffs and Jagr as there leading scorer I think they would wait a bit, or else ask for a little bit more.

And the Hanzal trade isn't even close.

I doubt Philly would make the Luongo trade unless it's:

Luongo, Edler, Schroeder, Connauton and our 1st in 2013, and possibly a 2nd in 2014.

You're asking to give up a solid centre and a right handed D-man, they'd probably make us take Bryz and make us use a buyout to get rid of him. They'd have us over a barrel and Gillis can't really do much about it.
