  1. As someone else mentioned earlier, huge props to ALL the posters here in CDC. It's been a wild ride this season with F COVID and the unknown of everything. While I wasn't sure the NHL could make the playoffs work, it's been a great experience. Appreciate everyone's comments, analysis (even when I think you're dead wrong LOL), sharing of deeply personal situations, positivity in helping pick up the spirits of fellow CDC'ers. Hopefully we get to share more in game experiences beyond tonight, if not a big thanks to all of you for helping make the hockey season less bizarre and sharing the fun we've had with watching our team grow and blossom into a stronger group.
  2. Win or lose, I hope to see an all out effort which I think we will have. These boys play for each other and no one wants to be the weak link. I think Markstrom is playing injured, I remember a couple of games ago he struggled to get up after making a big save. Demko may start, no matter, in playoffs it's the next man up. Boys will play hard in front of him, I think Demko has matured and will rise to the challenge. Think we've had solid coaching to this point, expect to see a few tweaks tonight that will help us. Great game tonight, go Canucks go!
  3. Not sure that it's reasonable to take players who do well in the AHL and toss them into playoff hockey and expect them to produce in the same way as they did in the AHL. Canucks have seen multiple examples where the translation from AHL to NHL hasn't gone well - Boucher, Goldobin come to mind. Do you take chances and risk the defensive lapses when the AHL cream can't keep up in the faster bigger more intense NHL? We've already seen that with Zack. He's had scoring chances and not produced. Green and the coaching staff have seen these players in training camp and practices. If he honestly thought that putting Rafferty or XXX in would give the Canucks a better chance at winning, he'd probably do it. Maybe if we can take it to game 6 as a back to back he might take the chance for the fresh legs option, but it's still a risk and may not be fair to the rest of the team if the reward isn't obvious. It's easy to speculate from the sidelines, but none of us have skin in the game.
  4. I'm shocked at how badly COL has looked. I know goaltending is an issue, but one strategy for that is to keep the puck in the other end and they don't seem able to do that. I thought they were one of the favorites to make it to the final? Maybe bubble hockey isn't their thing.
  5. I find putting certain posters on ignore has been extremely beneficial for my blood pressure. When people are so dug in that they refuse to consider anything except their own narrative it's hard to have any sort of discussion. Name calling and constant irrational ranting with no supporting facts makes my head hurt. So, some posters (1) are on ignore and I'm more at peace. Easy peasy.
  6. I find I can't handle either the GDT or PGT live after a loss, have to wait and take a quick look the next day. I'd be banned in 2 seconds by responding to some of the doom-sayers that come out of the woodwork. As one of my co-workers used to remind me....back away from the keyboard! The sun still rises in the morning....life goes on regardless of the hockey outcome. Win or lose, we can still be kind to others.
  7. I fully support the suggestion to create a new GDT for the rescheduled Game 3. We're at almost 100 pages now and probably about 15 of those are tied to the game, the rest are more relevant to the discussion of why the games were postponed. Could @Robertsoriginal post be copied to a new GDT that could be started?
  8. I understand that this is a Canucks fan forum, but find the constant bashing of Kelly Hrudey a bit bizarre. In watching the intermission commentary during these playoffs, he has been pretty unbiased, positive about the Canucks and provides decent analysis of the game. I'm impressed that he has used his platform and his family to speak out on mental illness and it's impacts, lobbied for better treatments, he's open to helping anyone who reaches out to him. The vitriol that gets dished out towards him seems to be unfounded.
  9. I doubt that the NHL would shut down entirely, but I can understand if tonight's games get postponed. Positive is that it gives us an extra day of rest, although as someone else pointed out, might put us into a back to back situation if the NHL doesn't just slide the schedule by a day. I'd like to see Marky with extra rest, and gives Myers an extra day of healing, along with TT getting a bit more rest for his ankle.
  10. So very proud of how our team has bounced back, solid game from everyone so far. Learning so much about how to scratch, claw for ice, absorb or avoid checks, keep pushing the pace. Got a little scary in the 2nd but they refocused for the 3rd and have been so much fun to watch. Fun time to be a Canucks fan!
  11. I just consider the source. One person is behind the bench of an NHL team that is in the second round of the playoffs, has access to multiple people with extensive NHL coaching experience, video and statistical analysis up the wazoo to help make decisions. The other person is sitting at home pounding away on a keyboard. Based on that comparison I know which person I have more faith in to know what the Canucks team needs to do to match up against an opponent.
  12. I live in Burnaby, took the Skytrain downtown yesterday for the first time since the end of January. I was pleasantly surprised to see that facemasks being used on the train were probably 70%, those not wearing seemed to be an equal split of age groups. I know that next week it becomes mandatory to wear on public transit, honestly I don't understand those that choose not to wear a mask in an enclosed space. Screams of selfishness to me. I had a debate with a younger person (mid30's) that I work with. She said when she is on transit (buses) she's one of the only ones wearing a mask so she won't wear one as she doesn't want to be singled out. I pointed out that she's leading by example, but she wasn't buying it.
  13. Hopefully Benn being a new Dad will have the same impact as Bo being a new Dad.
  14. Think the Canucks game gets pushed back? VGK and Chi just ended, 6:13. Need 2 hours I believe between games for the ice? sigh....might need to go for more groceries unless I have a nap. I'm working my way through everything in the fridge.
  15. @Hairy Kneel Sorry for your loss, hope you and your Dad get some comfort from the game tonight.
  16. Very cool article about Bo from his Dad's perspective....had me wiping my eyes!
  17. So far it would seem it's family pressure for Rask. Two small kids and a newborn. Have to give each of the players in the bubble and the team staff a ton of credit, going in knowing that if your team goes all the way, it could be a long time before your family is able to join you in the bubble. (players families can further along, not sure about staff). For the families at home, huge props to the wives/gf and extended family and friends. It takes a village to raise a child and certainly apropos in this circumstance with Dad being otherwise engaged for a long period of time. Bit different than Dad being away on a 2 week road trip, able to come home for bits of time to read bedtime stories or whatever. I know there are other careers (military?) where a spouse may be gone for up to 6months at a time, not sure how relationships survive?
  18. Not sure what else is going on in his life. I believe he was commenting in the past couple of days about the atmosphere with no fans, comparing it to exhibition games.
  19. In fairness to Jake, he can only hit the players he's matched up against, and for the most part I don't think it's been the Blues stars. However, I do wish he'd be a bit more aggressive on the forecheck and splatter some Blues D so they are quick to get rid of the puck and always looking over their shoulders going back.
  20. Not that I think luck is needed but best of luck! Should be a memorable setting!
  21. I don't think Torts style of motivation worked on Alex, I strongly believe it took a couple of seasons for Edler to regain his confidence after getting finger poked and who knows what else behind closed doors from Torts. I have no issues with the 2020 version of Edler and how he's playing, no extra motivation needed!
  22. I'll be doing a highland fling so loudly my downstairs neighbours might complain - and I watch the game on the 2nd floor of my unit LOL! Hit him hard, if he gets up hit him again, but bear in mind the flow of the game. Can't stand that gutless puke....not that I'm biased. Clean hits are one thing, spearing and headshots there isn't room for in the game. That isn't sportsmanship.
