  1. Wow, so great to hear, glad for you all that things went well!
  2. I guess the good news out of this is that the rate of positive tests stayed the same, higher test positive is a result of higher numbers of people tested, and hospitalizations are down slightly.
  3. I doubt it was the money, more likely the opportunity. There was an article about him a couple of weeks ago, talked about his long term goal to be a head coach, recognizing as well that he needed more coaching experience. He talked about the right opportunity as it would mean uprooting his family. I am speculating that he sees this opportunity in TO to be able to provide him with greater depth of experience. It also helps him to be involved in a different team management structure and different head coach to work with.
  4. I'm not a professional trained in anything that is useful to you right now, but I can provide an ear and a shoulder if you need to talk. I think trying to self advocate is extremely difficult at the best of times and moreso when you aren't well. Know that you are valued, loved and people care about you. Sometimes it's hard to see that. DM me if you want to chat, I can offer virtual hugs and am always happy to listen. I've been blessed with friends that have done that for me.
  5. You must have missed the coverage of the Anti Mask, anti Vax, QAnon et al group that was protesting in front of the Art Gallery in Vancouver this weekend. There had to be over 200 people or more, I was shocked at the size of the group.
  6. Good grief! I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone and this thread has become a QAnon discussion thread.
  7. Not sure if we'll ever know whether the infection rates were equally as high earlier but weren't being registered? Right now the increased rates are at least in part due to increased testing. I'm probably in a minority but not really seeing a cause for panic yet as hospitalization and death rates are still low. If we all do our part, stay home if we're not feeling well, wear masks in enclosed spaces I'm confident we will get through to the emergence of a vaccine. We need to do everything we can to protect the most vulnerable in our society as they can't do a lot to protect themselves. I think the government and public health have put in place strong measures to help with that by creating employment standards for long term care workers to prevent the spread of disease, protocols that activate if disease is detected. All of that took some time but it seems to be paying off as outbreaks seem to be far better managed now. Challenge now will be to watch the schools and whether there are any outbreaks there and how they are dealt with.
  8. Only way I could see it working would be a series of mini bubbles for shorter periods of time. 4 or 6 bubbles, teams are committed to 2 or 3 weeks and some sort of round robin type tournament then home for a few days, then back to another bubble with different teams. Still would have to figure out the quarantine issues. I'm not sure how many families would want to go to a bubble for any length of time. Kids wouldn't be able to go to school or see their friends, and being somewhat stuck in a hotel wouldn't be that attractive to many.
  9. Ah...that would make more sense....wholly crap, $6M per seemed a bit outlandish. Thanks for the probable clarification....
  10. 4 years I can go with, not $6M. He's not more valuable than Horvat or Boeser. I know stats are stats and one can make numbers support any argument, but saw an article recently that analyzed Motte's performance and he is not a top 6 player. I don't think we want to pay a bottom 6 that well?
  11. That kind of action would divide the room faster than anything else. Doubt that Petterson or Hughes would want to follow a Captain that did that, and the players on the bench and in the room would know if any of their team mates were dogging it. What I saw in game 7 was a group of players who had given it everything they had and were desperately trying to survive against a stronger opponent. I didn't see anyone dogging it.
  12. I wish it could work for Jake. I'm frustrated like many with his ability vs his effort. I think a comparison of what Jake doesn't demonstrate was Boeser's quote during the playoffs, he said something along the lines of "I know I'm supposed to score and I'm not, but I'm trying to do whatever I can to help the team." He was engaged in board battles, working hard to try and win the puck and get it to his teammates and retain control. I didn't hear Jake say anything as profound about what he was trying to contribute, and I didn't see anything specific on the ice that showed me he was doing everything he could. He had a few hits, but more often I'd see him heading at someone and then checking the glass beside them rather than hitting the actual player. I'm not sure if Jake needs a more hard butt coach or a more cerebral coach. It would be interesting to see if Rod BrindA'mour would be able to draw out his potential, or would it be someone like Barry Trotz? If he comes into camp as out of shape as some of us think, it must be frustrating for his teammates. Unless he has an epiphany, that won't change by being traded as he will still be here with his buddies during the summer. If he stays, he'll be on a short leash as the message from the GM has to give him something to think about and maybe his parents can kick his butt. If he's traded I doubt we'll get much back but I don't really care at this point. Clear some cap, make room for someone who wants to put in the effort.
  13. How the hell does Bruce Cassidy win???? I know it's voted by the media which I guess explains it, but I would have placed the accomplishments of both AV and Torts over that of Bruce Cassidy. Yeh, his team won the Presidents Cup, but we as Canucks fans know exactly what that entitles one to.
  14. Great, another person to block. Uneducated viewpoints spreading false and misleading information, just what we need.
  15. My understanding is that there is no science at this point that supports the concept of herd immunity with COVID 19. There have been several examples where people had the virus, recovered and have now been reinfected which raises the question of how long if at all people have immunity after illness. One of the factors of concern in developing a suitable vaccine.
  16. Well, guess the season for us is over and we'll never know if a different strategy would have worked differently since none of us were in the dressing room or coaches meetings. All we have are varied opinions. Have a great off season, I'm sure we'll be back to challenge each other when the season starts again!
  17. It's not like Green is the first coach to implement the strategy, nor will he be the last. A good coach fashions his strategy to the team he has, adapting as he goes to what he thinks will give his team the best chance at success. AV was a master at it, adjusting season over season as his team evolved with more experience and better players.
  18. I can see both sides of the argument here. There is something to be gained by infusing some fresh blood into the mix, but at best it might have been one or two players, certainly not 3 - 5 as you identified. There is a time honoured tradition that you "dance with the one you brought to the dance" and not swap people out when it's the players in front of you that worked their tails off to get the team to that position. It's also reason for concern to throw players in who have no playoff experience against a strong team like Vegas when elimination is on the line. If the team lost game 7, do those players you infused into the lineup take a disproportionate level of blame. What if OJ or Rafferty gave up a breakaway that was scored on and the game was lost by one goal? The media and the fans would crucify them. None of the players you identified were likely to add scoring punch which was desperately needed. Other than helping to clear the puck out, not sure any of the players you mentioned would have added anything much. Remember, we lost by one goal that was scored on the goalie, the other 3 were scored on an empty net.
  19. I think Green and staff put together a plan that gave the team a strong chance to succeed. Keep the puck to the outside, eliminate the 2nd and 3rd chances knowing full well that he didn't have the horses to skate end to end with Vegas. Try to take advantage of mistakes and strike quickly. SOG only measure that, not the actual scoring chances which were significantly lower. He knew better than anyone how battered his team was, the experience level and the likelihood that they would be able to control play in the offensive zone for any length of time. We would have all liked to see more success on the PP, but we also need to recognize that Vegas were extremely good at blocking the lanes to prevent the passing, double and triple teaming the puck carrier along the boards to win the puck battles where our guys were maintaining a defensive structure to prevent an odd man rush.
  20. Media meeting with Jim Benning and Travis Green tomorrow, might hear more about injuries during the play in/play offs then. Or not, depending on if they are still bound by the agreement with the NHLPA to only disclose fit to play or unfit to play.
  21. I'm struggling with one discussion point in all of this - that our provincial government and provincial health officer aren't making these decisions in isolation. It's not as if BC is reopening schools where everyone else across the world is doing the opposite. We are pretty much doing almost exactly what other countries that are ahead of us in the pandemic modelling have already done. I believe that we are using the learnings from other jurisdictions to help us plan what will be the most effective/safest model to follow. Is it perfect, no, I don't know that there is a perfect model out there. Many posters in this thread talk as though the plan being put forward is completely different from what anyone else in Canada or internationally is doing. Is there any country anywhere that hasn't reopened schools?
  22. It seems like everyone just went home since I'm seeing Twitter posts of the boys getting home and greeted by their dogs/kids/wives. I wonder if because the only thing the team was allowed to say was "unfit for play" they aren't going to talk about injuries specifically?
  23. Proud of the team, top to bottom including coaching and management. Handled themselves with class all the way, worked hard, punched above their weight class in both playoff series, won games they had no business winning. Need some tweaks for sure in the off season, but I'll be interested in hearing about all the injuries before I judge how any player performed. Demko was otherworldly in the 3 games he played, what a performance! Some challenging decisions to be made in the off season for sure, short as the off season may be. I was disgusted by the Vegas bench "chirping". What a group of jerks. I hope Dallas takes them down hard, but I suspect it will be a good hard fought series.
  24. Thank goodness for the TV timeouts, I can breathe again! Holy Wow! Nervewracking game, loving the team effort.
  25. Not sure that many people see yet that even when we have the COVID 19 pandemic under control, the world will have changed and how we do things is and will continue to be different. I'm getting tired of all the organizations asking for money to "tide them over", "bail them out" etc. To me it seems that the new normal may reflect that the economy has contracted and not every business/organization is viable. Where is all the bailout money supposed to come from? Just to name a few, CFL, PNE, Aquarium....everyone wants grants, loans, deferrals. We're now at the point where we're likely going to start seeing real struggle as mortgage deferrals are over, rent payments deferrals are over and lots of people still aren't back at work. Saw a post yesterday about Purdy's chocolates and how they are struggling. Maybe they need to redo their business model? They are in every mall with storefront presence, that's expensive and would require selling a LOT of boxes of chocolates to cover the cost and pay the staff wages. Are we as consumers expected to jump into the breach and buy extra chocolates (a luxury?) just to keep them afloat? Meanwhile people are struggling to keep a roof over their head and food on the table.
