  1. Bring on the best that the Blues have...great measuring stick for the Canucks. We either match and win, or we better understand what the flaws are on our team construct, the kids learn firsthand how hard playoff hockey is and the coach has lessons for future. Our Lotto line might be shut down, time and space perhaps for the rest? If Marky has another Brick Wall game, we stand a chance. JV? He can contribute in different ways, play a heavier game and make it hard on the opposition. Forecheck relentlessly, make them cough up the puck, force faceoffs in the offensive zone. Up to him. Many players have had to completely change their game from Junior to the Pro's in order to stay in the game. I think he can be an NHL player as long as he wants, the question will be whether he plays to what we see as his potential or not. It might be considered "gut check" time for him, playoffs are a different beast and everyone on the team needs to find a way to contribute. If there is a more effective choice sitting on the sidelines, they are in and you are out. Time now to demonstrate that all the time the coaches spent with you during the season reviewing video has paid off.
  2. Loved seeing tweets from the other Canucks copying the one about Troy with their acknowledgements via emoji. Really tight group of guys, love that. So glad that Benning wants character AND skill.
  3. I may be wrong but perhaps his lacklustre play is the reason his icetime was so low? I'm in the camp of being disappointed that from the eyetest his effort doesn't match his skill and ability.
  4. I agree with you. Since the cohort being infected is younger, we're seeing significantly lower hospitilization rates which is a good thing. That doesn't lessen the concern about long term impacts which we don't really know enough about yet. I also agree that none of this has anything to do with schools at this moment since schools are currently not in session. I expect that return to school plans will continue to be adjusted based on how the infection rates evolve over the next 2 weeks. I find the constant bashing of government, health officials and anyone who doesn't agree with KOS perspective to be depressing.
  5. I did tell the front desk staff as I was leaving, but have little confidence they did anything about it. If they did, it won't happen again. If they didn't, it will happen again and I'll address it. She may not be a moron, maybe just not thinking about the ramifications of her actions so I'll try and address it in a kind and gentle way until she gives me a reason to bring out my inner bitch LOL! The grey hair might help reduce any potential attitude from her.
  6. I believe there are a tremendous number of great kids out there that are doing all the right things. I see them in parks, on sidewalks, lineups, they respect social distancing, they are wearing masks. Sadly there are enough who are immature self centered jerks who only think about the 3 feet around them. I see a gal in the Club 16 gym I go to. She's maybe 20. Twice now in the women's side weight room I've watched her take a weight bench that has a 30 cm sticker on it that says "Do Not Move" and drag the bench across the room to the cable machine so she can sit her pristine butt on it to do seated rows. She then ties up two pieces of equipment so someone else can't use the weight bench to do their workout. Why she can't sit on a mat on the floor to do her seated rows, or do them standing is a complete mystery to me, but the next time I see her do it I'll ask her if I can help her with a workout selection that doesn't make her look like an entitled princess. She is the epitome of someone I expect flaunts the rules, doesn't wear a mask, parties with her friends and gives zero thought to impacts on other people.
  7. It's probably going to come to more enforcement, I personally hate the idea of living in a police state where everyone is compelled to rat out others. Would be more tolerable if people could perhaps stop behaving so selfishly. That's probably expecting too much though.
  8. Or....maybe individuals should get their head out of their a** and stop thinking the virus doesn't involve them? If each citizen did their part, this wouldn't be spreading. In the past 4+ weeks, it's largely spreading among the 20 - 40 year old age bracket. Gee, that would be the party hearty crowd, the beach gang, the camping in large clusters. Sadly the real risk is who they give it to. Lots of retail and server employees now being infected so potentially spreading it. Safeway in Ocean Park, Footlocker downtown, and on and on. How hard is it to follow basic recommendations? We're heading full blast toward a full shutdown again, and all those people who are just getting back to work will be unemployed again because of their own selfish activities.
  9. https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/coronavirus-breaks-out-again-in-new-zealand-after-102-days-1.5059206 WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND -- New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Tuesday that authorities have found four cases of the coronavirus in one Auckland household from an unknown source, the first reported cases of local transmission in the country in 102 days. Ardern said Auckland, the nation's largest city, will be moved to Alert Level 3 from midday Wednesday through midnight Friday, meaning that people will be asked to stay at home, while bars and many other businesses will be closed. "These three days will give us time to assess the situation, gather information, make sure we have widespread contact tracing so we can find out more about how this case arose and make decisions about how to respond to it once we have further information," Ardern said at a hastily called news conference late Tuesday. "I know that this information will be very difficult to receive," Ardern said. "We had all hoped not to find ourselves in this position again. But we had also prepared for it. And as a team, we have also been here before." She said that travelling into Auckland will be banned unless people live there and are travelling home. She said the rest of the country will be raised to Level 2 through Friday, meaning that mass gatherings will be limited to 100 attendees and people would need to socially distance themselves from each other. Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said the infections were confirmed after a person in their 50s went to their doctor on Monday with symptoms and was swabbed twice, testing positive both times. Six other people in the person's household were then tested, with three more positive results. "Importantly, the person has no history of overseas travel," Bloomfield said, adding that the source of the infections remains unknown. Until Tuesday, the only known cases of the virus in New Zealand were 22 travellers who had recently returned from abroad and were being held in quarantine at the border. The country has been praised globally for its virus response. New Zealand initially got rid of the virus by imposing a strict lockdown in late March when only about 100 people had tested positive for the disease. That stopped its spread. Life had returned to normal for many people in the South Pacific nation of 5 million, as they attended rugby games at packed stadiums and sat down in bars and restaurants without fear of getting infected. But some had warned that the country had become complacent. New Zealanders have never routinely worn masks, but authorities have been urging people to buy them just in case. The outbreak comes less than six weeks before New Zealanders are due to go to the polls in a general election.
  10. Part of the learning process, I expect he'll adapt. Never gets easier, that's why it's the hardest trophy to win in pro sports. He and others will have zero time and space so it's on the rest of the team to help out, earn the Blue's respect, chip in goals to take the pressure off our stars.
  11. Win or lose it's going to be a fun ride! Great experience for our team! Chance for the brass to evaluate who stays and who might be tradable. If OJ plays in and does well gives us some options on D. If Mack outplays Virtanen...trade chip? Go Canucks Go!
  12. Talk about Boyz to Men! A bit scary to look at Myers neck, almost like he used those rings to force it to grow. I thought growth spurts were more evenly distributed throughout the body?
  13. I might be out in left field on this (probably a crowded place) but my understanding is that masks protect others from you moreso than you from others if you are wearing one? i.e. wearing a mask wouldn't protect you from getting a viral infection via your eyes should someone sneeze/cough in your face? However, wearing a mask would reduce/minimize the droplets you exhale so others wouldn't necessarily inhale them, nor would your droplets contaminate surfaces others might touch? If my understanding is correct, no, a mask can't guarantee that it will prevent you from being infected. So while sad that it needs to be stated on the packaging, I suppose its necessary to ensure complete disclosure. Masks indicate a caring about others, no?
  14. Wow, Deb and others, thanks for sharing your stories. Mine is similar but different. I retired from 40 years in a corporate job in 2019, started a new career in fitness. When COVID hit I was terminated, laid off or not scheduled any longer depending on the job (I had 3 different ones). Thankfully I still had a pension cheque from my corporate life. I found the first few weeks really tough, being single and not having family the "stay home" part was tough. Very grateful for the friends who would text or email regularly to make sure I was ok. Given that I had no one to worry about infecting, I volunteered to shop for others so that gave me a reason to be amongst people, even if it was at the grocery store. I think I went through all the stages of grieving, sadness, anger at the lost way of life, probably at the acceptance stage now that life as we knew it is probably never going to come back. I'm incredibly grateful that golf never really stopped, I've been playing more than most years because I have the time and the resources to be able to, it gives me a social outlet as I'm on the course for 4+ hours with good friends. I'm back at the gym and have found a new tribe with a private studio that is offering cycling classes and slowly moving back to inperson fitness classes. Interviewed this week for a role in fitness, will see what comes of that. In the meantime, I'm working as a mobile personal trainer. Enjoying the Canucks, not sure how much I'll watch if they are eliminated, probably will live with highlights and web coverage. I've found it interesting that COVID seems to highlight the differences among us, it's reinforced the freedoms that we have that we probably take for granted too much. It's also brought out how we all view the world through our own lens and our actions are generally self serving and not necessarily for the greater good of all. I honestly am shocked at the anti mask movement - it seems like such a minor inconvenience that could benefit everyone by reducing the risk of transmission.
  15. I feel so badly for him, can't imagine how devastated he must be to have worked so hard and hoped so hard he would be able to play. I hope he does whatever is right for him after getting the best medical input available.
  16. It might be a bit premature to start digging the grave. He could be dealing with a charlie horse, a broken ankle or foot, bruised knee, or any other sort of injury resulting from shot blocking. None of which would equate to him being out forever. Just being real. Sorry @Googlie I couldn't drop your name off the quote.
  17. It's scary to think how many potential injuries might occur in this run to the Cup. Fingers crossed there aren't any more, but odds aren't good on that.
  18. It'd be sweet if you could find a way to make your point without slagging a gender in the process. It might give your argument more weight.
  19. Not sure comparing Virtanen and his place within his sport and Allen Iverson and his place within his sport is helping Jake at all. One is an All Star and Legend in the game, the other...well, not so much, at least yet.
  20. I expect this is something happening across the league, I know at the beginning of the pandemic there were layoffs of arena staff impacted by games cancelled, but this is a bigger hit as it involves more people likely working full time jobs in admin/marketing type jobs.
