  1. I’ve got it something like this. Miller Pettersson Garland Podkolzin Horvat Boeser Pearson Dickinson Hoglander Motte Sutter MacEwan Hughes Poolman OEL Hamonic Juolevi Myers Demko Halak Scratches/Minors Bailey Highmore Gadjovich Rathbone Schenn Obviously the D pairings and winger combos are interchangeable depending on who develops chemistry with each other. I think that’s the opening night roster though. Maybe not Podkolzin as Green seems to be somewhat old school and save opening night for veterans.
  2. Game two of the 2011 Canucks/Nashville series. Best live performance I’ve ever seen from a goalie. We stood up in our seats about 6 different times in OT because we thought the game was over. Several cross crease passes slid across his net only for him to make a miraculous save every time. Great career.
  3. If there’s a Trade equivalent to the JT Miller trade, I’d be fine with it. Those deals don’t come along too often though. Tampa is gonna have to shed some salary again. Haha.
  4. Would love to get him as he’s the top pairing right handed defenceman we need and the timing is right as that is the offseason where we clear up a pile of cap space. I am not on board with trading to get him beforehand though. If he says he’s looking to test free agency, it would be a terrible mistake to lose him after giving up the king’s ransom that I’m sure Columbus would be looking for.
  5. Yeah to me it wasn’t the skills that held him back. He just didn’t have that “it” factor I guess? His demeanour is very stoic. Just not an alpha player that would take charge. Those guys don’t grow on trees though.
  6. Time to move on unless it’s a real sweetheart deal. Like $3 maximum on one year deals from here on out. He’s worth more than that so it’s a touch of an insult to him but Vancouver has also paid him $55 million over a decade and a half so it would be tough for him to be upset. If he’s game maybe but even then, that money can be better spent here. With a couple cheap young d-men under team control for a few years and Myers and Schmidt signed for a few years we, can’t tie up unnecessary money. Other than the Sedins, he’s been the longest serving Canuck that I can remember. Maybe even longer than them now? Good on him. I was one of his biggest fans when he came into the league. Everyone was fawning over Bourdon but I really liked Edler’s game. He’s loyal, was a workhorse but he just could never quite got over the hump of being a true #1 dman. I appreciate his service but as I said, if it’s not a sweetheart deal I think it’s time to try something different.
  7. Well I hope Seattle takes one of our veteran forwards or Holtby then. Would rather lose some salary than Gadjovich when he’s starting to really show some potential. Virtanen seems a likely choice for Seattle.
  8. With the trade deadline come and gone I figured this thread deserves a bump. If I’m Benning, I’m protecting: F Petey Brock Bo Miller Motte Lind Gadjovich D Myers Schmidt Juolevi G Demko This makes it likely Seattle takes a $2 to $3 million forward off our hands (Pearson, Roussell, Virtanen, Beagle) if they decide to go that route, with the exception they could possibly choose MacEwan. The only d men we could lose are Bowey and Chatfield. Or they choose Holtby freeing up $4.3 million. Any way you look at it, none of these players are huge losses and should clear out some decent cap space (with the exception of Bowey, Chatfield or MacEwan).
  9. Yeah I don’t have much of a problem with Myers at his price tag (you always have to overpay for defencemen). I don’t think he’s drastically overpaid and plays a solid all around game. Not great at any one thing but is solid or above average at everything. I’d rather have him at $6 mil than Edler to be honest.
  10. I don’t know why everyone is so eager to offer up Gaudette. I really think he has a solid future. Solid numbers with limited experience and love his attitude and enthusiasm. Sutter is gone after this year and he slots right in to the third line centre role. Before the season started I wanted Green to try him on the ride side with Horvat and Pearson. With the emergence of Hoglander though, probably best to keep grooming him for that third line centre role. To be honest, I would rather Gaudette than either JV or SB. I would be fine with Virtanen for Bennett though. Would probably have to include a small sweetener (maybe a 3rd round pick?) Maybe not. Edit: I take it back. Thought Bennett had better offensive numbers than he has put up. I know points aren’t everything but instead of a lateral move, you could probably include JV in a trade to acquire a bigger piece than Bennett.
  11. Lol, I remember that. And Hunter Shinkaruk about 15 picks later was going to be the next Patrick Kane. Ha.
  12. I’m late to party but has anyone mentioned Schmidt’s tough luck getting smoked in the head/neck area 3 times in 5 games? Yikes. In all seriousness though, was nice to see the boys rebound and keep answering every time they faced some adversity. Really need to tighten up in our zone though. We don’t have Marky back there routinely stealing games for us. Although Holtby did come up with a couple really big saves near the end of the game though which was nice to see. The thing I liked most was they showed they were confident with the puck again. That was missing the past three games (minus the first period of last game).
  13. Yeah the boys have just looked “off” the last couple games. Not executing simple plays (losing the handle on the puck, bad passes, fanning on shots, losing edges). They look like they’re skating in cement at times too. We got so used to Markstrom stealing large portions of games for us but those are big pads to fill. Oh well, it’s early. Better days ahead. Hopefully.
  14. I don’t get the hate for Myers either. D-men always come at an inflated price and his price tag wasn’t even that bad. Not spectacular at anything but either strong or solid in most situations. For whatever reason, Canuck fans always need a yearly whipping boy though.
  15. Preaching to the choir pal. Lol. Drove all the way out to Vancouver from Medicine Hat for games 6 & 7 hoping to celebrate. The one time I can honestly say I was sad for months after the Canucks got eliminated. The stars were aligned, everything was perfect but the hockey gods decided to make us wait again. Will just make it all the more sweeter when it does happen I guess.
  16. Who’s whoa there. Pump the brakes. Lol. Hughes? No question, yes could/should be the best defenceman we’ve ever had. That 2011 group was super deep though and was the top scoring blueline in the league that year if I’m not mistaken. Not sure of the pairings but something like this: Edler Ehrhoff Hamhuis Bieksa Rome Salo Ballard Tanev Top 4 all in their prime and Salo still lighting the power play up.
  17. It’s been nice seeing some potential out of Podkolzin firsthand. Didn’t really notice him the first couple of games but the last two have been promising. All we really have are stats and the odd highlight posted on Twitter or YouTube. The stats aren’t really there but the KHL is traditionally a league where young players don’t get a lot of opportunity. To be honest I was losing some optimism about him so it’s nice to actually see the skill and talent. Hopefully he can transition his game to impose his will against pros like we’ve seen him do the past couple of games.
  18. Assuming Ferland begins the year on the IR, Baertschi doesn’t make the team and there are no surprise prospects to make the team out of camp, this is what I’d like to see: Miller Pettersson Boeser Pearson Horvat Gaudette Roussel Sutter Virtanen Motte Beagle MacKewan Hughes Schmidt Edler Rafferty Juolevi Myers Holtby Demko Scratches: Hawryluk Baertschi Eriksson Benn IR: Ferland Call ups: Lind Rathbone Not sure what the total number of roster spots allowed will be or if there will be a taxi squad this season due to Covid but that’s a lot of salary either scratched or in the minors. Yikes.
  19. Yeah thought about him too. We’ll see what Nate Schmidt bring to the table this year as well. Seems like a team guy and well liked by ex teammates.
  20. Agreed. Easy choice really. EP gets Sutter’s A next year. Always good to have a letter on defence as well but not sure who should get Edler’s should he depart at the end of the season.
  21. I’ve liked these jerseys from day one. I’ve got the Naslund gradient jersey from the early 2000s and is one of my favourite jerseys. This colour scheme works much better. Don’t really want to spend money on a jersey they’re most likely only going to wear one season though.
  22. I’d like to see them give him a try on Horvat’s wing. I think he’s a talented player who does a little bit of everything and brings energy. You never know. There have been plenty of examples of a player being drafted as a centre only to blossom when moved on to the wing. We’re fairly deep down the middle so no issue there. If it doesn’t work he can always move down and back to the middle. I feel talent needs to play with talent to maximize potential. Chemistry is important too but we haven’t seen him play with Horvat yet. If he has a decent camp I’m sure Jake will be given first opportunity to fill the vacant top 6 spot and Ferland could somehow end up healthy as well although I doubt it. Unless there’s magic, I’d like to see Gaudette get a shot at some point.
  23. Everyone seems high on this Cernak. Have to admit I don’t know much about him but his stats certainly don’t warrant what people seem to be willing to give up. Pearson I could part with. Gaudette I have big hopes for.
  24. I wouldn’t say Holtby is a lock to be drafted by Seattle. They may want a couple younger goalies with term. Due to the abundance talent at the position, most teams are now going with tandems. Seems to me like more and more goalies are available in the trade/free agent market nowadays.
