  1. I mean, if we trade one project for another we won't be overloaded with them. Especially since the only real project player we have is Goldy, still unsigned as well, so to say we are loaded up on project players is a bit of an overstatement. Our defensive depth isn't exactly so deep that we can't find a home for Honka here and there either. Especially with the injuries we tend to deal with. Tanev is liable to get injured any day now, and it's the offseason. And no, I am not suggesting we Corrado him why would I advocate trading for someone to not even look at them? Not even sure why you brought it up but hey I'll answer it anyway.
  2. Is this a psuedo-complaint thread about the Miller trade? Or just a "you know what's good? More draft picks" thread. I agree with the latter. Good talk team.
  3. Time to go balls to the wall boys. PP1: Boeser - Horvat - Petey Baer - Hughes PP2: Who cares just use our number 1 PP for 2 minutes
  4. I think the desire to find good young players that may need a change of scenery should always be present (not saying Honka is one such player). That'd be like not wanting more elite centers because we have Bo and Petey. Can never have enough of a good thing and if you can get a hidden gem through reclamation projects which are generally the cheapest assets you can get then it shouldn't matter whether you're a playoff contender or a bottom feeder. Cheap talent is cheap talent if you believe they can turn their fortunes around.
  5. Quick to give him away? We've had him for 2 years, one of which he was on the main team the entire year, that's on top of 2-3 years development time with San Jose. It's not like he's 19 and we want him gone cause he's not instantly a top 6 player. He's 23, he's struggling to find any footing in the NHL. And besides, where does he fit on the team? Lol. He's not better than Pearson, Miller, Ferland, Boeser, or Baer in the top 6. He's not a better fit in the bottom 6 than guys like Leivo, Motte, Roussel, Virtanen or even Eriksson. It's not a "well we want something new" thing it's more of a "he doesn't fit on the team" thing. I am not against moving or keeping him. But something has to give with the number of bodies we have. Waiving him does nothing for his development, that's if we could even get him through waivers. May as well send him somewhere he has a better chance of having a career while also getting a youngish RH d-man that may have some hidden upside.
  6. The meaner he is the more likely Barrie will sign here. "I'll leave a couple mil on the table to not have Ferland take my lunch money anymore. " It's a shame Colorado didn't keep him this year. He's safer in Toronto.
  7. The only guy I can think that took a hometown discount was Hammer. Everyone else was paid in relation to the Sedins. Which makes sense. They were our best players and they set the bar. I think most of those contracts only effect internal cap structures. Does Marner ask for 11-12 mil if Matthews is making 10? Does Nylander ask for 7 in that case? Boeser's contract will hopefully be structured around what Bo is making. I'd argue that overall Boeser is not better than Bo.
  8. Maybe people's assessment of "who he should be" is misguided. Not to mention how is Gaudette a 3rd liner but Jake needs to prove more? I really don't understand CDC when it comes to Jake.
  9. Are you implying Goldy for Honka is CDC overrating our players? Or is this a joke about most CDC proposals, it falls short when you make it in one of the few proposals that makes sense for both sides.
  10. No idea who he is, but comments are generally pretty good about him so it sounds like a good hire. Never really thought the amateur scouting needed work, but hey. Everything can be improved upon. Hopefully this guy comes in and whomever else is hired can help improve what was already, in my opinion, a pretty good strength. We all meme about analytics but I feel like there needs to be a healthy medium between what looks good on the ice and what looks good on paper. Never hurts to have eyes that see things differently.
  11. I remember a time when Sportsnet and/or TSN said he was gonna be better than Bo. Good times.
  12. As far as two firsts names go Dakota and Joshua might have the least synergy I’ve ever seen. Feels like a 30 syllable name. Of course I’m likely just an idiot having trouble saying Dakota Joshua.
  13. He’ll likely get traded for what Pouliot got traded for.
  14. Tanev’s average defensively, decent physically, and an average scorer. Still doesn’t mean he should get 4 more years than Dzingel. Lol.
  15. Good money, good term. Good deal. Was worried he’d get 5mil on a long term deal. Tanev got a far better deal and has never hit 20 goals or 40 points in his life. Hell, never even hit 30. Lol.
  16. Jake was the biggest hitter in terms of quality on the team. Lol. His hits weren't like Motte's or Beagle's where they got some body contact. He ran through people.
  17. It’s not earning a spot if we’re moving better players so he can get in the lineup.
  18. Leivo played top 6 a lil bit last season, he wasn’t great but maybe he comes in improved this season. Goldy, Pearson and Baer all have the best odds of top 6 imo. Goldy mostly cause we can’t play him anywhere else. Pearson and Baer have prior chemistry with Bo. This season can’t start soon enough Interested to see how things play out with guys like Goldy, Leivo, Jake and the new additions.
  19. Rumour has it Hamonic’s jaw quivers whenever you say Gudbranson’s name 3 times in a row.
  20. Pod > everyone else in the draft class so it doesn't matter.
  21. MDZ gets a deal before Smilin' Ben. Ain't that somethin'. I always liked MDZ. He never lived up to his expectations but the guy is hanging around in the NHL. Gotta account for something. Guy was a hit machine when he was here. Best of luck to him.
  22. The comparison, as was stated isn't fair. The argument should be would I rather have a guy from the CHL or College. Ideally, I'd rather of had Lind in the AHL (or really any pro league) right outta his draft, same with Virtanen and Woo. The problem isn't the AHL, it's the CHL. It's not a very competitive league. At least not at the pro level. So, no. I wouldn't rather have Lind in College last year over Utica. I'd rather of had Lind in the AHL two years ago. The college guys spend 2 years after their draft against older better competition than CHL players. CHL players play against kids for 1-2 years, then have to readjust to playing against men in a more pro environment whereas College players already have that experience in College. Essentially CHL players really start their pro development after leaving the CHL and not after being drafted. There was a reason Juolevi left the London Knights for Liiga. And I agree with the original point. Nobody should be mad he is developing in the KHL. It's a great league in terms of quality of competition. It's on par with the AHL if not superior in terms of talent. Ice size means nothing to me too since it should help his game more when he swaps over the NHL sized ice with the way he forechecks.
  23. Yeah I advocated the Tarasenko deal last summer. I'll admit it was a bit too soon, but with this past season I definitely think Boeser at 7ish mil would be great for this team long term. I'd be fine with a shorter term deal for Boeser but the pressure is on the organization to take advantage of that lower cap hit before he gets his big payday. Otherwise we end up like Toronto. Big cap hits with no playoff success to show for it.
  24. He wants to be here long term, if we take that at face value which I would, doesn't mean it needs to be a long term deal he signs now. With all the access to information, even a dumbass like myself can access, it's easy to see shorter term deals (4-5 years) are better for star players than 6-8 year deals. He could sign for 6 years for 7mil per now. Or sign a 4 year 6mil per deal now and when the next tv deal kicks in he can cash in for 8+mil per. Especially if he keeps playing the way he has except over a full season. His numbers are amazing, his problem has been unlucky injuries. Another good thing about signing cheapish now is it'll help the team ice a more competitive team and maybe he gets a cup in the next 2-4 years and now he has more leverage for cash next contract. As a fan I'd love to see him get the Tarasenko contract. 8 years 7-7.5 is a great deal if he keeps up his current level of play at least. If he signs for 4 years at 6mil he could potentially get Draisaitl dollars after it. He's been pretty much a 70 point player the last 2 seasons. If we go by pace. He was on pace for 66 this season but he did have a rough start to the season likely due to his increase in weight and the fact he was rehabbing in the summer. Draisaitl got a 8.5mil deal with only one 70 point season. He likely won't be Draisaitl good but at 70-80 point 30 goal scorer at 7.5mil would be great. If not for injuries, the first of which was more luck based than anything, he'd be a 70 point 30 goal scorer now.
