  1. The guy that scored 19 goals and 43 points two seasons ago, and 15 goals and 42 points last season is not worth 3mil? If he's not worth 3mil than Beagle, Roussel, and Sutter are massively overpaid.
  2. Meyers and Miller cost the same as Panarin alone. Lol. That first we gave up for Miller will likely be the same as the first they gave up for Trouba. Lol. They just began their rebuild and are trading picks and signing big name free agents. Lol. The point I was making that rebuilds aren't just through the draft. Lol. And people shouldn't expect Vancouver to never sign free agents or trade picks. Lol. If you can't see that you should open your eyes. Lol.
  3. Fair enough. The point is players are making more and more. 2-3 years ago it was rare for players to have 10+ mil cap hits. Now we are seeing 80 point wingers taking home 11+mil. Over the next couple years we are going to see a crap ton of 8+mil defenders. 6mil is no longer 2D dollars is really the point being made. Next summer we are going to see guys like Barrie, Josi, Morrissey (in all likelihood if he stays healthy), Krug, Faulk, and Brodie all crack that 6+ mil range. Can even throw in Nurse and Pulock as potential 6mil d-men depending on their seasons. So that's 6-8 more d-men on top of the 26 d-men currently making 6+ mil. The market is shifting and 6mil is no longer the top 2 dollar it once was. There is a tv deal coming up after the 2020/21 season and the cap in all likelihood will rise making that 6mil tag people are crying about seem pretty small. Especially after the RFAs between now and then start signing their deals making that 6mil bench mark even larger.
  4. Leafs accept the 4 1st rounders and use them to fill holes in their roster. Using the cap saved to keep their d core together long term. Easy win for them.
  5. Rangers trade a first and a decent young d-man for Trouba and throw 7 years nearly 82mil at a winger 3 years into a rebuild nobody bats an eye. Canucks trade a 1st, potentially 2 years from now, for a 26 year old top 6 Center/winger after 5 years of sucking and Canuck fans lose their minds.
  6. I am really glad we didn't pass on this kid cause he is Russian. He's got that tenacity that can work on any line. Surprisingly good passer. You can really see the difference in style compared to a guy like Goldobin. Not to rag on Goldy but if he was half as interested in the forecheck as Pod is he'd be a great 2nd liner in the NHL. It's insane to me that people would not have taken Pod at 10 because of his KHL contract. That dog in him alone is worth taking at 10, let alone the fact he has high level talent. Skating isn't great but not as bad as I thought. When he said he needs to work on his skating I thought it'd look worse. He has good speed so as he works on his technique this guy could be an elite defensive winger. His forecheck and tenacity is at a high level already. If he becomes a better skater it'll cause a lot of problems for defenders in their own zone. Which is saying something cause he already bullies his peers in that regard. I can already see him being a fan favourite in the playoffs. People may not be fans now but I think they'll change their tune when we finally get to see him in Vancouver. This is probably the most excited I have been for a prospect. Which kinda scares me cause I don't wanna put too much pressure or too much expectations on the guy. Lol. I just hope he brings his work ethic to the team one day. He's got some swagger to him too. Could use some of that with all the mild mannered folks we have.
  7. Myers is Garrison, maybe? Kinda sorta. Both have hard clappers, both kinda meh defensively, good for 30ish points. I mean Garrison at his best too, not the washed not so good Garrison. I could see the Rome comparison with Benn though.
  8. I'd say not trading for him and trying to get him in free agency is a better bet than trading for him and potentially losing him AND those assets. And Barrie is really the only free agent I "assume" we can get. I never thought we were legit in on any of the past big name free agents. Barrie makes sense as a BC boy, the team is exiting a rebuild, and he'll be on what will look to be a very good blueline. If Tryamkin comes back, Hughes and Juolevi will potentially be established NHLers by next summer, Stecher and Myers looking solid on the right side. Is he a lock to come here? Of course not, I'd be an idiot to assume that. But our chances are definitely up there. We'll have cap, we'll have a good young roster, and he's from BC. If that doesn't make us one of the 3 front runners for him I dunno what will. But I'd rather gamble on getting him in free agency and save those trade assets. Myers came to Vancouver and he isn't even Canadian but had family from his WHL days. If a guy born in BC doesn't give us the same look an American did I'd be very surprised. Toronto couldn't even fit Barrie's entire 5.5 cap this season, can't imagine they'll fit him next season when they need to take his entire cap which is gonna be north of 6mil. Keeping Barrie likely means they lose both Muzzin and Ceci and play the bad guy by trading Nylander after saying they wouldn't. Their blueline will be worse than ours was this past season. They have 11mil now with Kerfoot, Ceci and Marner still needing contracts. Media keeps saying cap isn't likely to rise next summer either.
  9. I don’t think people quite realize how expensive dumping a bad contract will be. Just look at the Marleau trade. That was ONE year of Marleau too. It was immediately bought out. Eriksson’s contract isn’t worth buying out since the cap savings are non-existent. Eriksson next summer is probably movable but this summer it isn’t happening.
  10. Ferland’s value goes down longer free agency goes. He still probably wants Wilson money though. After Boeser’s extension we won’t have cap for him unless Benning finds someone dumb enough to take Eriksson’s contract. That’ll likely cost us Lind + a 2nd rounder. Even that probably does not get er dun.
  11. Toronto paid far more to get rid of ONE year of Marleau. Lol. Eriksson has 3 years left.
  12. Could Lucic waive if asked? If I recall Dion was asked to waive for the Vegas draft and said no. If we could get assurances beforehand that Lucic would agree to waive his NMC for the Seattle draft the trade seems less awkward.
  13. In NHL 17 he never became an NHL player. That’s the extent of my Lawson Crouse knowledge. Lol.
  14. Could, but probably doubts anyone would take our overpaid garbage. Played it safe kept the assets. Sounds like we’re stuck with Eriksson if that’s the case.
  15. You think you can trust Aho. These Ahos ain't loyal.
  16. Very far East, back to Russia if he is serious about that 4mil price tag. He is 5'10, 27, done nothing in the NHL. If he's smart he takes a 1 year deal for 2-2.5mil with Vegas and actually prove he can play in the NHL before asking for 4+mil. Someone might give him that 4mil though, I mean Shipachyov got 4mil once upon a time.
  17. It's funny how you poo-poo Tryamkin but will give other teams credit for drafting lesser players. But hey, to each their own. He has done more in the NHL than every player you praised other teams for drafting. It's no guarantee he comes back but him coming back and being a top 4 guy is more likely than most of those guys you named being top 4 d-men.
  18. Tryamkin, an NHL level D-man that'll likely return next season was acquired with a 3rd rounder. Jett Woo and Rathbone look like quality acquisitions drafted outside the first round. Hughes and Juolevi are both quality d-men with top 4 upside. Not sure how you consider him "suspect" at acquiring D-men when the ones I named are just as unproven as the ones you named for other teams. Lol. Unfair criticism is unfair but hey, hating on Benning is par for the course around here.
  19. Yeah I have since corrected that statement with my following statements. The articles I read say the asking price is in the 3-4mil range. Wouldn't be surprised if it was more.
  20. Replace Pouliot with Hutton and we are actually spending less money for a better product.
