  1. Really happy for Motte, big goal in a big playoff game. After all he's been through, I think it's great for him.
  2. My guess is Florida will want high picks and Grade A prospects in return on trades. I don't think Rathbone is nearly enough, and DiPietro has almost no value. The Panthers have Spencer Knight. There are other teams who will also want Bennett and Reinhart and have more to offer. Rathbone is also the only NHL-level Dman prospect the Canucks have. Trading Jack could be bad. Maybe if: Miller, Hoglander and Bowey = approx $9 Reinhart, Duclair and Gudas = $12 FLA frees up a bit a cap and gets a 99 pt C in his prime, with playoff passion. VAN gets a solid #2C and better D partner for OEL. (IMO) Pettersson Reinhart Horvat OEL - Gudas Hughes - Schenn Dermott - Myers Rathbone
  3. 1. Wright 2. Slafkovsky 3. Jiricek 4. Cooley 5. Nemec 6. Kemell 7. Gauthier 8. Nazar 9. Lekkerimaki 10. Lambert 11. Mintyukov 12. Korchinski 13. McGroarty 14. Kasper 15. Snuggerud Savoie - drops because of his size Yurov - drops because he's Russian
  4. I look at other teams' lists of prospects and I get envious. LA in particular is in such good shape. ANA, DET, NYR, and NJ are building competitive teams too. The Canucks have practically nothing compared to some teams. I like the idea of trading the #15 down to acquire more picks (prospects). I'm sure there must be gems in the 30-40 range in the 2022 Draft. Maybe VAN should also try to acquire high picks for 2023 in trades. I'd be okay missing the 2023 playoffs, if it meant winning the Draft lottery (Bedard)
  5. That's too bad, I'm sure Bruce isn't too happy about that. I thought the issues were mainly D zone breakouts etc? Wouldn't that be Brad Shaw under the microscope? Maybe they move Shaw to coach the PK and then bring in Housely to be the D coach? Wild guess
  6. Isn't the latest rumour that the Canucks are planning on qualifying Boeser at $7.5? Most likely a short term contract (3 years). It sounds like they really like him and could be banking on him excelling. JR recently said something about wanting more sandpaper, and I think Garland is the top 6 guy to be traded.
  7. This is very interesting, Canucks would have a heck of a bottom 6
  8. What are the odds the Canucks get the #2 or into the Top 5? 5%? 2%? Less than 1%? Realistically, the Canucks will probably dump a bit of cap and bring in younger players with size, whoever that might be: DeBrusk? Zacha? Both? Or? IMO, if anything, I think JR/PA could trade down, to acquire more picks (assets). There is apparently a drop off after around pick #12, a whole bunch of players all grouped and rankings are all over the place. They might have some guys ranked in the 30-40 range who they feel could become good NHL players for the team in a few years. Picking a player at #15 (say, Korchinski) - is he going to be better than taking (RD) Luneau and (C) Beck? I don't think so.
  9. Malkin could be done. A 1-2 punch of Crosby and Miller at C. Of course, PIT will need a RD, especially if they don't resign Letang and lose Marino. to PIT: Miller and Myers to VAN: Marino and Carter Carter fills that #3C spot very nicely IMO. He's old, but he's still got lots of game, and he's not expensive.
  10. Watched/listened to Donnie&Dhali earlier and Drance was on saying he's hearing the Canucks have interest in Lekkerimaki, Kasper, Ohgren and Noah Ostlund, at the Draft Not a fan of Drance, at all, but meh, grain of salt. Be nice to get Lekkerimaki, but I suspect they would probably have to move up to do that.
  11. A big Centre or a big Defenseman, doesn't matter if the D is R or L. The Dman will most likely join the team in 3-5 years anyway, and the Canucks aren't deep at LD either. Has to be a good skater, makes smart decisions (IQ). Here's an interesting item: the Canucks (both Van and the pipeline) don't have any right shot C prospects. No one, except Linus Karlsson. Do they try to get a right shot C? Gleb Trikozov 6' 1" 185, right-shot C/RW (18 in August) Could be a good late 1st/early 2nd. Good skater, has some speed, likes to carry the puck, good defensively (like Svechkov) and looks difficult to play against, his backchecking etc., has a good shot - but he can sometimes lose the puck trying to do too much, hanging onto it too long or makes stretch passes that are off the mark. But, at 17, he's got years to grow and develop, and he's already got some decent size, and the speed. I kind of hope they move down, and add a couple of good prospects (C and D) in the system. Maybe they get lucky and some drop.
  12. When I woke up I heard JR's voice in my head announce VAN 1st pick. All I got was: "...from the Mississauga Steelheads...", but didn't catch the player. So, I checked the roster and it could be either (C) Luca Del Bel Belluz or (C) Owen Beck. Can't see it though, not at #15. Looking at the possible RDs: Casey Salomonsson Luneau Chesley Havelid Nelson Although, judging a picture by its cover, Ty Nelson's hair can't be on this team
  13. Sutter's an Albertan, so he's also invested emotionally as a citizen. Should be a good series though, real good for hockey in Canada. Isn't that right Ontario? How many years no Canadian teams had success. It's about time. But, saying that, I'm hoping EDM upsets CGY. It'll be interesting to see Kassian vs Tkachuk in this battle.
  14. No pipsqueaks. Yurov Mintyukov Korchinski Gauthier McGroarty Kasper Geekie
  15. I'm so glad JR is at the helm and sees the changes that are needed. I agree with some, the Canucks have been a finesse team (acquiring slighter, skilled euros) for many years and it's time to become a team that's a lot tougher to play against, especially at home. Other teams should struggle to win at Rogers Arena. Demko should be completely off limits, and if one Canucks player gets played dirty, then the other 4 Canucks skaters should want to step in to right the wrong - pack mentality. This being said, I feel that Garland and Hoglander could be traded. Garland to BOS for DeBrusk, as an example. They get bigger, tougher, and save a bit of cap. Miller is a pickle - what do they do with him? If he gets traded, will they get the return a lot are hoping for? What if it's basically a 1st and a low cost player? (prospect), just so they can dump the cap, try to refill the prospect pool. Some of the proposals for Miller on here are heavily favoured to VAN, but in reality, it might not be that way.
  16. Interesting that JR said the Canucks need help with getting more RD and Cs developing. It's true, so I do wonder if they target a C or RD with the #15. C - Focht, Karlsson, Zlodeyev RD - Woo, Persson Not that good. Karlsson's really the only promising player in that group. Sounds like Woo could be a player who could be dealt and not in the Canucks future plans? Same with Focht, I thought he would become a good C, but maybe they don't see that?
  17. Button has Gauthier at #7 and Snuggerud at #8. The other scouting lists have Snuggerud going in the late teens to late 20s. What is Button seeing the others aren't? I've watched a bit of video on Snuggerud and he definitely has a great shot, like a laser. Also has size (already 6'2") and skates well. Seems good in all 3 zones?
  18. Well, go Luongo's team I guess, down with the Lightning. Been a long time since they lost a series. The time is now.
  19. Can't see COL lose this series, too many expectations to go deep and maybe win it all this year.
  20. I don't really know what their plan is, maybe rebuild isn't the right word. For some reason I thought they were an older team, with Bergeron set to leave. But it also makes sense, with Bergeron leaving, that opens up the spot for Miller and keeps them a contender with Pastrnak and Marchand.
  21. If BOS is rebuilding, they're not going to want to give away Lysell. Maybe you're onto something with Carlo, DeBrusk and a pick for Miller and Hogz? Other teams are going to be selling assets too, like PIT and TOR, for example. VAN's list includes, IMO: Miller Garland Hoglander Pearson Dickinson (might not be possible) Ekman-Larsson Myers Poolman (might not be possible) They want to clear cap space, get younger and grittier/tougher/bigger
