The Canucks aren’t in the playoffs, not sure if any of us are watching for winning hockey. Pure chaos is most fun. We aren’t that far removed from Devils-Rangers which is the worst hockey I’ve ever seen in a finals, but the kind of hockey you’re talking about.

Demko news is the biggest of the day, if he’s out for any length of time due to surgery it’ll be another long year.

Coaches can only do so much. At some point the allure wears off. The goal should be to get a roster good enough to compete for the Cup with you or me behind the bench. Yes losing Miller will hurt, but this team should live or die on the shoulders of Quinn, Petey and Demko. Everything else can be built around them and should be, you need assets to get good players on good deals to work with. Hell we already saw 2 second round picks can get you one of the best defensemen in the NHL. This team is draft pick thin, has maybe the 2nd or 3rd WORST prospect pipeline in the NHL and is capped out. There's no need to sugar coat it, there needs to be a lot of change this Summer, not just putting lipstick on a pig. I should clarify, that should be the plan if the goal is to one day win the Cup with this core. If everyone is fine making the playoffs now and again and occasionally winning a round or 2 then hell ya sign up JT for 8 years.

Coaches have shelflives, especially guys like Bruce. I'd much rather this team make the proper moves like trading JT, Boeser, etc... and be able to win with any coach 2 years from now, rather than hope Bruce can do what he's doing now at 70 years old.

Sign Miller 8 years and you have a 4 year window to win the cup and that's it. You don't win in those 4 years you're selling off Petey and Quinn. You trade him and the window doesn't open as soon but is open for longer.

It's not playoffs or bust. With a #1 C, D and Goalie, making the playoffs should be the minimum year in and year out. Thanks to Benning there are major roster parts that need to be at the very least rejigged. Fact of the matter is that players move on. Does it have to be JT? No If the offer isn't good enough and his contract demands aren't insane then yes because of all the points you mentioned, by all means keep him here. But how many of Petey,Hughes,Boeser,Demko,Miller and Horvat do you think will retire Canucks. It won't be all of them. It wasn't with the Sedins,Kesler,Burrows,Edler,Luongo.

Well it depends on what the goal is right? This team has glaring holes in the roster that need addressing. Is 4.8 enough to drastically improve enough to keep up with the Pacific? Vegas will be better, they just will, Anaheim will likely take a step as well. The Sharks are probably the only team I'd put money on being in the bottom 3rd of the league at the end of next year. The definition of insanity shouldn't be tested here.

A positive for Boeser can’t be his stats are “good for an NHL player”. so much more is expected of him, and he’s probably gone as a result.
