  1. I guess this gives Eakin a reprieve. He will stay on as 3C. Roy provides AHL depth and potential call up as a center for VGK. Vegas still gotta move 1-2 contracts and sign at least one more Dman. Reaves is next on the list to move IMO. Should be a few takers on that...
  2. I like the OP. It certainly achieves useful outcomes for both teams. I think we would need to add a pick or prospect to even out the value, but nothing that hits VGK roster next season. I think it might be more likely that VGK trades Reaves elsewhere (better return) and tries to make the deal Stecher (50% retained) for Miller only. Further reasoning... Vegas are sitting at $89m cap which includes Clarkson’s $5.25m. When they place him on LTIR then they reduce to $83.75m cap. Still $2.25m over the cap limit. They have 13 forwards under contract and they have given qualifying offers to Gusev and Nosek, so they potentially will have 15 F on their roster if they can agree deals with both. Despite potentially having 15 F under contract they also have a lack of center depth. They likely also need to resign UFA Bellemare to a cheap 1 year deal or bring up Glass to the big club. Both options will add close to $1m to the total cap hit, and brings them to 16 F. They need to shed forwards! Considering further that they only have 6 D under contract. This means they don’t have excess Dmen to trade in order to reduce cap. Again, they need to shed forwards! Let’s also remember Subban is RFA and has received a qualifying offer, so if they can get a contract agreed this will add a further $1.0-1.5m. Let’s be generous to Vegas and assume $1.0m is agreed. Total cap hit will be $83.75m, plus $1m Bellemare, $1m Nosek, plus $1m Subban = $86.75m Now this is where it gets critical...what is Gusev’s contract? Will he accept a $2-3m bridge deal? Or does he drive for $4-5m? This is critical because it determines whether VGK can afford to keep him, and if they can how many forwards, and which forwards, they need to move. If Gusev accepts say $2.25m deal then total cap hit goes up to $89m. My guess is that VGK will look to shed the $7.5m (to reach $81.5m) by first moving Eakin and Reaves and waiving McKenzie (reduces cap by $7.38m). Why move them? Both have value and should be reasonably easy to move. They would like to keep Reeves for his deterent value but they can’t afford it for that amount. Haula can center the third line when Eakin is gone. You may notice that VGK are potentially very close to $81.5m or a little over, but still only have 6 Dmen. I believe they will look at moving Miller and bringing in at least 2 cheap Dmen with slightly lower cap hit. Stecher with some retained salary is a definite option for VGK in order to achieve this, but there are a lot of moving pieces required first to get it done. They may look at Engelland on a cheap $1.0m deal or bring up Hague to bring their D numbers up to 7. Probably run with a 22 man roster too.
  3. If there are no further additions to the forwards, it will be interesting to see who fills that 2RW spot. Can Jake progress this off-season and be ready to go? Do we put Baer there as he has chemistry with Bo and he has played RW before (with the twins)? Would Leivo be a better fit? Goldobin provides playmaking skills? Surely Eriksson is gone...
  4. If you say so... ...I think your values are a little off pal. But keep trying and I’m sure you’ll begin to understand
  5. All good bro. And Stecher plays a pretty feisty game for his size. I think Vegas’ main concern with my proposed roster is the G backup. I don’t know if Subban would take a $1.0m contract at this stage.
  6. 100% agree that they have a fantastic group of forwards. But their D are smurfs??!!!!!! Here are their H + W: Schmidt (6’1”, 194) Theodore (6’2”, 196) McNabb (6’4”, 212) Stecher (5’10”, 186) Merrill (6’3”, 205) Engelland (6’2”, 214) Hague (6’6”, 214) Holden (6’4”, 214) Stecher is the only “smurf” IMO...
  7. Love this acquisition. I have wanted to add Miller, Beagle and Pesce for the last 3 years! Cant believe we have 2 out of 3 now! C’mon JB find a way to prise Pesce from CAR!!!! Pllleeeeaasse!
  8. I would LOVE to trade Tanev for Miller, even though we’d probably have to retain 50% of Tanev’s salary in that scenario because VGK is so tight on cap (which is the main reason for moving Miller). However, I don’t see Tanev fitting with VGK playing style. VGK mgmt will also know that Tanev is often injured. They will insist on Stecher. And if that is the only deal on the table, then JB should do it IMO.
  9. I agree that VGK need to clear some cap and that Eakin and Miller will be key pieces they want to move out. They also need to move more cap out, and my guess is that it might be Reaves on the move. They don’t want to part with Tuch. If they trade Eakin and Reaves, I don’t think they want any forwards back. Even if they ship out Eakin and Reaves they are flush with great forwards and will be tight against the cap so won’t want any back. The main deal I see them doing with VAN is a 1-for-1 trade of Miller for Stecher. This way VGK gets a similar aged and level Dman back but they save some cap space. VAN should try and move Tanev (50% retained) but I don’t think Tanev fits with VGK style of play. VAN should take the deal because Miller is an upgrade on Stecher, particularly in his size. Here’s what I think VGK might do: Current cap hit = $83.15m Put Clarkson onto LTIR, waive McKenzie, and trade: Miller for Stecher Eakin for picks Reaves for picks Salary OUT = $16.51m Resign: Karlsson, 1yr @ $5.25m Gusev, 2yr @ $2.4m Bellemare, 1yr @ $1.0m Engelland, 1yr @ $1.0m Nosek, 1yr @ $1.0m Backup goalie, 2yr @ $1.0m Adding Stecher $2.325m Bringing up Hague $0.792m Salary IN = $14.86m Total cap = $81.5m This still gives them a formidable roster: Patches Stastny Stone Marchessault Karlsson Smith Gusev Haula Tuch Carrier Bellemare Nosek Zykov Schmidt Theodore McNabb Stecher Merrill Engelland Hague Holden Fleury Backup
  10. Been thinking about this retool of our D. I don’t want to give up assets that we can’t afford. I believe Edler will test the free market but he will resign with VAN. I also think that JB will struggle to trade Tanev so he stays. And JB will also resign Schenn. We have some good young prospects developing (OJ, Woo, Rathbone), plus Tryamkin may come back soon. We can’t lose these assets without knowing what we have. We just need to buy some time to get to that point, and I don’t want to sell the future to buy time. What I think JB should do: Stecher is a good young player but my preference would be to go for an upgrade in size. I think we could trade Stecher 1-for-1 with VGK to get Miller. Assuming Edler, Tanev and Schenn remain...I think it makes sense to sign a B level UFA such as Stralman. Stralman is a good defender and vet with a calming influence on young guys. He can also move between 1st, 2nd, 3rd pairing and not look out of place. This would be my 2019-20 D corps: Edler Stralman Hughes Miller Hutton Tanev Juolevi Schenn Potential D corps in 2020-21: Hughes Miller Edler Stralman Juolevi Tryamkin Hutton Woo
  11. Here’s what I think VGK might do: Put Clarkson onto LTIR, waive McKenzie, and trade: Miller for Stecher Eakin for picks Reaves for picks Salary OUT = $16.51m Resign: Karlsson, 1yr @ $5.25m Gusev, 2yr @ $4.0m Bellemare, 1yr @ $1.0m Engelland, 1yr @ $1.0m Nosek, 1yr @ $1.0m Subban (or other backup goalie), 2yr @ $1.6m Adding Stecher’s $2.325m Salary IN = $16.175m This still gives them a formidable roster: Patches Stastny Stone Marchessault Karlsson Smith Gusev Haula Tuch Carrier Bellemare Nosek Schmidt Theodore McNabb Stecher Merrill Engelland Holden Fleury Subban
  12. For example, William Karlsson signed to another $5.25m bridge deal for 1 year... I wonder what the Gusev contract details are? I can see Vegas moving on from Eakin, just to give them enough room to resign for example Bellemare, Engelland, Nosek and a backup goalie. Perhaps they trade Miller for someone like Stecher to bring that cap hit down a little but keep a similar aged/level Dman.
  13. His ELC ended this season. Starting next season he is onto his new 7 year $4.75m AAV contract. Based on this new contract you would initially think that VGK wouldn’t want to trade him - because they clearly value him. However, remember that they signed him to this extension BEFORE they traded for and resigned Stone. They may indeed look to move Tuch or Marchessault.
  14. I would take on Perry’s contract plus give up a 2nd rounder to get the 9th overall from ANA (even though ANA is unlikely to do this). I would not do the Lucic deal. I’d prefer to keep Loui and find a way to trade him at a later date without taking such a big hit. So we are left with 9th and 10th overall. Then we either pick BPA at those picks, or trade them at the draft for the 3rd, 4th or 5th overall (if Byram is still available).
  15. Yep I agree with kloubek. Not a terrible proposal, not bad really, but just not what I think Canucks should do. I still firmly believe Juolevi is going to be a top 4 stud for us for 15 years!
  16. A great and original proposal. Love it! I don’t necessarily agree with the Panarin and Myers acquisitions (because I don’t think we could afford them with the rest of the roster you mention) but the trade for Tuch and Miller is very well thought out and I believe would be an excellent move to improve this club. Well done!
  17. I find it amusing how everyone seems to blame JB for his poor signing of Eriksson. However, if you just go to the first few pages of this thread you will see that there is virtually no one that says anything negative about the signing of Loui. All the posts are overwhelmingly positive and seem to agree that he was good value. Its pretty tough to lay the blame on JB. I think we were ALL thought we were getting something much more in LE. Oh well, time to move on I say!!!
  18. The first trade is heavily weighted towards VAN, no way that OTT would do that. Not only the value is uneven...OTT are rebuilding themselves and they would want the picks. As Pears already noted, the second trades are terrible for VAN!
  19. Here goes... Overall aim is to bring in some grit to help the kids out in top 6 F and top 4 D. But keep cap flexibility for 2021-22. Trade 1: VAN - Eriksson + Goldobin OTT - 7th round 2020 Trades 2 & 3: Get anything we can for Granlund, Schaller, Spooner. Probably nothing... UFA market: Brock Nelson - $5.5m x 5 years Ben Chiarot - $3.0m x 5 years Resign: Boeser $7.0m x 7 Edler $6.0m x 2 Hutton $3.0m x 3 Leivo $1.6m x 2 Motte $1.2m x 2 Schenn $1.2m x 1 Raffery $1.0m x 1 $30.5m current space. Adds $35.5m in cap Less $6.0m in cap Cap space of $1.0m Next season: Schaller, Gaudette, Saunter start in Utica 2019-20 lineup: Nelson Pettersson Boeser Pearson Horvat Virtanen Baer Sutter Leivo Roussel Beagle Motte (Spooner) Edler Stecher Chiarot Hughes Hutton Tanev (Rafferty Schenn) Markstrom Demko Lots of flexibility for 2021: Bring in ELCs and UFA such as Coyle (underlined are possible gap fillers) Nelson Pettersson Boeser Madden Horvat Virtanen Coyle Gaudette MacEwen Roussel Beagle Leivo (Motte) Hughes Tryamkin Chiarot Stecher Juolevi Woo (Hutton Rafferty) Demko Dipietro
  20. Minor point Jan...but I have seen you say it twice now...we don’t need to resign Petey and QH until 2021-22 season, not 2020. Not a major issue wrt what you propose, but worth remembering that the likes of Sutter, Baer and Pearson will be on expiring contracts and so simply not resigning say Sutter and Baer would provide almost $8m in cap space (if they haven’t been moved on already).
  21. I understand your idea that wingers can be added later and are more easily found in FA compared to C or D... BUT WE ARE NOT GIVING UP BOESER!!!!!! I think realistically LAK will take Byram if he is still there at #5 and run, but they may be tempted by a deal that helps them get younger, sheds cap and gives them another pick and prospect How about a deal like: To VAN: 5th overall, Phaneuf To LAK: 10th overall, 40th overall, Hutton Phaneuf has negative value at 34yo and $5.25m, and LAK needs to desperately make some cap space. VAN can afford two more seasons of Phaneuf and could use his grit on the 3rd pairing LD. LAK upgrade to a younger LD that can handle top 4 minutes and has good size for the Western conference. Plus add an early second rounder. I’d only do something like the above. NOT TRADING BOESER! Petey, Boes, Bo, Quinn, Demko should be considered our future core and should not be traded unless a ridiculous offer is made.
  22. Actually I think there is a decent chance Byram drops to #5. He may be the BPA at #3 but both CHI and COL (picking at #3 and #4) have a wealth of young Dmen. There is a reasonable chance they both pick based on other needs and Byram falls to LAK.
  23. Haha so you did! Well i think your original proposal is fairly well bang on then!
  24. The more I think about this, the more I think OTT won’t be on board... My sense is that Eriksson has slightly negative value, even with the $3m salary. Ceci, although demanding higher salary than he is worth, is still a young RHD and his rights have some value. Ideally OTT wants picks and/or prospects. It seems more realistic that OTT might deal Ceci’s rights for say a 3rd or 4th rounder. Then potentially VAN could offload Eriksson to OTT, along with a pick/prospect, for a pick. For example: To OTT: Eriksson, Goldobin To VAN: 5th round 2019 or maybe To OTT: Ericksson, 5th round To VAN: 6th round 2019 Either of these is a win for VAN imho I think it’s ok for OTT...they offload Ceci and pick up a 3rd rounder, plus Goldobin and Eriksson. All for the price of a 5th round pick.
  25. Yep I would go for that. It will be hard to say if Ceci will go for that in advance of trading OTT for his rights though. So we may risk losing him without signing him. However a one year deal is very low risk for VAN even if we pay a decent top 4 salary. If he doesn’t work out then we will have Woo and potentially Tryamkin that could be added to the RHD the following year. If Ceci plays as good as a top 4, then we ink a deal.
