  1. Cap should also increase anywhere between 1 and 3 million this summer! Let’s hope they don’t make mistakes in free agency again.
  2. Correct, was basing it on this article. Lets hope the revenues are high enough and some sort of agreement is reached. NHL salary cap could increase by more than $1 million next season
  3. Rumor is cap might go up 3-4 million this off season too! Need to factor that in as well.
  4. Zaitsev just cost a 2nd and a 4th hopefully we get at least a late first from a contender !
  5. Please be true - we need to do everything to keep losing! Being guaranteed a top 5 pick (hopefully Bedard) with a bottom 3 finish will be huge for this team!
  6. We aren’t going to be competitive for a few years anyways, by that time cap will go up and contracts will expire. Make trades if they make sense, otherwise be patient and ride it out. I’m afraid they’ll just repeat the same mistakes after clearing cap and sign players to over valued deals which will recreate the same problems we face today. Why do we need cap space as a bottom dweller, so we can sign other stupid contracts. Now if they’re creating it to take on bad expiring contracts from other teams to receive additional picks, I’m ok with that as long as we don’t dump our players for next to nothing.
  7. would they do, Boeser and Schenn for Hanifin ?? Similar salaries, and Hanifin is still young enough to fit into our core.
  8. Time will tell. IMO, don't trade him to just dump cap. This team is going no where in 2 years anyways, wait and trade him when his value is up and the cap goes up - more teams will be able to take him on.
  9. Hope they don't trade Brock just for the sake of it. If the value is not there, bring him back next year and hopefully he has a healthy start to the season and raises his trade value. I feel like when traded, he is going to score 30-35 goals and we are left sitting with a 2nd round pick.
  10. 1. Team starts improving, especially defensively if Demko returns. Taking us into the mushy middle and out of any shot at Bedard. And for what? We saw from last season, that momentum does not continue from the end of one season into the start of another. Exactly. Unless they are looking to move Demko and need to show teams that he is healthy (rumors floating). 2. Team is stlll floundering right up until the last game when we lose 5 - 2 to Arizona. The result of that could be even more devastating. It would mean that Tocchet may be the wrong man for the job. And he's not going anywhere with the owner already paying 3 coaches. And if Demko was playing and we were still losing, it would also signify that Demko still had questions as the #1. Or even if pundits said it was because of our D, it still would not be great for Demko's confidence. I think it is pretty obvious now with 3 coaches in the last 3 years, that this is a roster construction issue. Good thing is Tochet is only signed two years, so even if he isn't the man for the job, it's not long term. By the time they are finished with this "2 to 3 year" build phase his contract will be up. Not worried about Demko's confidence, more so worry that he re-injures himself trying to play so hard in front of such a weak team AND the team starts uselessly winning.
  11. They need to keep Demko out. I hope he does not go on a heater to end the season. The team has tanked too well lately to have him screw this up. Need to get a top 3 pick this year!
  12. 100%. Having 2, first round and 2, second round picks this year will be really good, especially in the 2023 draft class.
  13. Leafs are rich and have the cash to pay his bonus handedly too, retain on the contract make them pay the bonus
  14. perftect trading partner - they have so many good young assets to offer
  15. not to mention Klimovich who is looking pretty good this year too.
  16. New Jersey is the best trading partner. So many prospects and young players to offer.
  17. Current state of the roster it would be yes, but the problem is they aren't winning with that and it's hard to add players to round out the team. Alternative is to wait things out until contracts expire, cap goes up to fill out the roster. Or, dump guys like boeser garland at retained salary to create cap to fill the roster (not ideal given how low value they bring back in a trade) .
  18. One of the two will be traded, can’t have 3 guys: miller, Bo, Petey(contract coming up) earning that kind of cash… spells cap trouble. Especially when the d needs a rehaul.
  19. Possible, but I don’t see the owner choosing miller over Horvat, a player they drafted and developed, feel like this is all Rutherford. Don’t get me wrong, I hate Aquilini and his meddling too, guy has not a clue what he’s doing.
