  1. Don't mean to bring up a thread that is over one month old (but also didn't think it was necessary to create a new thread just for the query) - does anyone know if they will do/have done a Benning mic'd up video for this past June's draft?
  2. Yeah, Iain McIntyre confirmed it on SN 650 just now..... worst-kept secret in Vancouver. Great choice though
  3. https://realnews.rotowire.com/Brock-Boeser-googid391596-spnhl.htm Posted on September 24, 2019 at 12:48 PM NEWS UPDATE Boeser entered the concussion protocol after being hit from behind against Ottawa on Monday. ROTOWIRE FANTASY ANALYSIS At this point, the team figures to take a cautious approach with Boeser and will almost certainly keep him out of the final two preseason games, instead focusing on being ready for Opening Night versus Edmonton on Oct. 2. The winger racked up 50-plus points in back-to-back seasons, but has also never reached the 70-game mark due to injuries. If the winger does miss any time, Tanner Pearson or J.T. Miller will likely get a crack at first-line minutes. More Brock Boeser News from RotoWire.com
  4. https://twitter.com/sportsnetmurph/status/117653445908187545 More fuel to the fire...... Bo's got my vote!! Go Canucks Go!! *edit* Iain McIntyre just confirmed on SN 650 that Bo Horvat will become next Canucks captain, per his conversation with Jim Benning.
  5. https://www.tsn.ca/minnesota-wild-to-hire-pittsburgh-penguins-agm-bill-guerin-as-general-manager-1.1354003 The Minnesota Wild will hire Bill Guerin as the team's new general manager, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic. Guerin, 48, has been serving as assistant general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins and will replace Paul Fenton who was fired last month after just one season on the job. Russo reports Guerin is flying to Minnesota on Wednesday to finalize his contract and could be introduced by the club on Thursday. Guerin first joined the Penguins front office as a player development coach in 2011 and was promoted to assistant general manager by Jim Rutherford in 2014. He played 18 seasons in the NHL, winning two Stanley Cups - first with the New Jersey Devils in 1995 and then with the Penguins in 2009. He retired in 2010 and won two more Stanley Cups with the Penguins as an executive. The Wild missed the playoffs for the first time since 2012 last season, with Fenton masking several moves to reshape the team's roster, including acquiring Victor Rask, Ryan Donato and Kevin Fiala, while trading away long-time players like Nino Niederreiter, Charlie Coyle and Mikael Granlund. Fenton also signed winger Mats Zuccarello on a five-year contract on July 1. The Wild have $9.4 million remaining in cap space this summer with restricted free agents Fiala and Joel Eriksson Ek in need of new contracts. Guerin reportedly interviewed for the vacant Wild general manager position last year before the team elected to hire Fenton. Looks like a good hire.
  6. The above Colin White was a former D-man (I believe he has since retired) http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=28500 The Colin White whom is the subject of this topic was part of the deep 2015 draft class http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=170355
  7. https://www.tsn.ca/ottawa-senators-sign-rfa-colin-white-to-six-year-deal-1.1353954 The Ottawa Senators have re-signed forward Colin White to a six-year, $28.5 million contract. White will carry a $4.75 million cap hit on his new deal, making him the Senators' second-highest paid active player behind Bobby Ryan. White, who is the first player to sign a contract longer than five years with the Senators since Ryan in 2014, joins Ryan and Nikita Zaitsev as the only players on the team to be signed beyond the 2020-21 season. "We've identified Colin as one of our core young players who will help drive our team's success in both the short and long term," Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. "Colin plays the 200-foot game that is so coveted in today's NHL. He can skate, play on both special teams and is a character player and leader who loves hockey and this city. While he is coming off a season where he finished among rookie leaders in many categories, we also know he is just scratching the surface of his potential in this league. We're very happy that Colin will be a Senator for the next six years." The 22-year-old, who was Ottawa's final remaining restricted free agent, scored 14 goals and posted 41 points in 71 games with the Senators this past season. He played for Team USA at the World Hockey Championship this spring, posting two goals and three points in eight games. Drafted in the first round (21st overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, White has 16 goals and 47 points in 94 NHL games since debuting with the Senators in 2017. The team announced his contract will have the following breakdown: $4M in 2019-20, $4M in 2020-21, $4.75M in 2021-22, $4.75 in 2022-23, $4.75M in 2023-24 and $6.25M in 2024-25. Why do I think that he will likely be traded before the end of his contract, given Melnyk's current spending habits and trends?
  8. I don't think it was the signing that the fanbase was hoping for *cough* Brock *cough*, but at least it will start to generate buzz around the team before training camp opens.
  9. The inability to trade Zucker (twice) and the subsequent bad PR (active in the community) and press (via his wife) may have been the last straw.......... although I agree that it is odd timing that they chose to fire Fenton after free agency, when the team the new GM will be inheriting will not be his own since all the signings have already been completed and the roster more or less set.
  10. On the flip side, Knights starting to have goaltender depth: Fleury M Subban/Dansk Sparks Ferguson Goalie trade in the works?
  11. Well deserved - I will miss his hits on 650, he comes across as very thoughtful and balanced in his analysis'.
  12. What's not to like - it's not like he's Schaller or Spooner?
  13. I agree it's a bad return, however, I recall hearing that it is just 4 1st round picks, and not necessarily 4 successive 1st round picks in consecutive years, so Canucks can technically try to offer-sheet Marner at $12M+......
  14. I think it would be possible to make the trade without giving away the farm, since Montreal has been hoarding picks and prospects and not trading them away. A combination of Drouin, Tatar, Gallagher, Lekhonen, Hudon, Suzuki, Caulfield, Brook, Juulsen, Fleury, Mete, 1st rounders, without including the aforementioned 3 players would still make a trade possible.
  15. We'll likely pay a 1st rounder and Nils Hoglander for that trade to materialize, with this management.......
  16. ...but in 5 years, Weber will likely develop a skin condition attributed to the forest growing on his chin and face, which has become a National Nature Park due to the wildlife that have decided to reside there, therefore, making him incapable of playing moving forward, thus, needing him to go on LTIR........ does that sound right?
  17. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-short-term-deals-break-rfa-stalemates/ 31 THOUGHTS 1. At the end of the season, one Canuck predicted the team could have six or eight new players, and he looks to be right. They will try to re-sign Ben Hutton at a number it considers more palatable, but there will be interest. It’s believed Chicago was in before landing Calvin de Haan, and Toronto’s snooped around. I thought Jake Gardiner was out after they re-signed Alex Edler, but with Hutton in limbo, they need another lefty (Jordie Benn?). After Tyler Myers’ Sunday night visit, we all had him sleeping in Orca pajamas. I do think they are the favourite, but there is other interest — right-handed defenders are hard to find. The Canucks’ biggest concern might be Roberto Luongo. I don’t profess to know Luongo’s final decision, but outright retirement — instead of going on the long-term injury list — is a legit possibility. Should that happen, they are looking at a cap recapture penalty of approximately $3 million per year for the next three years, with Florida at just over $1 million a year. That number would be annoying to the Canucks. Say it ain't so Lou....... How come Luongo won't go on LTIR, à la Callahan, Hossa, Pronger, etc.......
  18. I wonder when the terms of the NMC fall off...... if I remember correctly (I may be wrong), NMCs carry until July 1st of every year. If that is the case, wouldn't he need to be protected for the Expansion Draft? Also, he has an NMC, but does that mean he has an NTC? An NMC means he cannot be placed on waivers or sent to minors (or be eligible for Expansion Draft for that matter), BUT doesn't mean that he cannot be traded, which is the purpose of an NTC. Does that mean he can be traded, since his contract has an NMC, but doesn't appear to have an NTC? *edit* Just verified that an NMC includes full-NTC, unless otherwise specified (thank you CapFriendly!) I will try to look into this a little deeper, but if anyone has any insight, can they please enlighten me and/or others, if that is possible. Thank you in advance!
  19. With Lafreniere projecting as the #1 pick, will Habs be looking to move up for the hometown kid? Alzner, Hudon and their first should be enough, right?
  20. Not trying to jinx anything, but that 2015 draft is starting to look like this decade's 2003 draft. In no particular order, that draft has produced: McDavid Eichel Marner Hanifin Provorov Werenski Meier Rantanen DeBrusk Barzal Connor Chabot Boeser Konecny and that's just the first round, with promise from other first rounders like Strome (post-trade), White, Juulsen, Roslovic and Beauvillier; not to mention post-1st rounders like Aho, Dunn, Cirelli, Joseph, Malgin, Bear, Balcers, Terry, Gaudette, Nutivaara (and Canucks got 2 players on that list, with possibly Brisebois and Jasek to come) Go GMJB - Friday can't come soon enough!!
