  1. Yesterday morning I would have thought that isn’t enough, this morning I think it’s a trade that needs to happen. Hughes, Rathbone and OEL can move the puck out, handle the PP and put up points. What they don’t do well is lay guys out, scare a forward or clear a crease. We have our upgrade now let’s get some “heft”
  2. So glad I got to use the Louie emoji. I really hope I am correct and this was sarcasm. I have OEL concerns but much prefer him to the rotten corpse of Duncan Kieth.
  3. I see this as a good hockey trade. Arizona gets a great pick this year, a second next year and a $1 scratch and win. The dead cap means nothing to them as they expect to suck. We get a year of huge cap relief, a very attractive young second liner and OEL. We take the risk but also the potential reward. If Ekman Larson can get to 80% of what he was 3 years ago here with actual team mates, and support then JB knocked it out of the park. If he continues to decline then we are back in Louie hell for a long time. He did say he was going to be aggressive.
  4. I just saw the Risto trade. If Schmidt really wants out I would jump all over this. If Boston isn’t afraid of Virtanens legal issues I would say the second part is an overpayment, but given what it is I think it’s pretty fair.
  5. If I’m reading this correctly...we are trading Jake Virtanen (a functioning NHL player needing a change of scenery and a get out of jail free card) for Jake DeBrusk (another functioning NHL player that could use a change but without the legal issues). At the same time Schmidt and a second swap for a first. it’s an interesting proposal. Our second is the 41st pick while the B’s first pick is the 21st. We move up 20 spots for Schmidt. While I like the deal amd would go for it I’m pretty sure that JV is less than negative value. On paper I like it though.
  6. And it begins! Looking forward to seeing what the Kraken have in store today. Really hoping that Benning has a trick or two up his sleeve as well
  7. I’m not a two team guy, and really only cheer for the Canucks. If Montreal can sign Dougie Hamilton, get Price healthy and sneak into the playoffs then magically heal Weber up for a cup run I would be so happy.
  8. I totally agree. I’m probably just a homer but I wouldn’t give up Podz for Reinhardt straight across. After seeing him put up with terrible coaching and ice time in the KHL and still produce against men I believe he will take every opportunity and exceed expectations. Everything in Buffalo reeks of desperation and losing, I’d take Reinhardt but only at a good discount.
  9. Oh we have them (Podz and Hogs), we just won’t be giving them up in this deal (I hope)
  10. Personally I would like to see Schmidt on the opening roster. He is definitely a better player than last season showed and our return would likely reflect that. A simple business discussion that he goes out and plays to his true abilities. In exchange the organization will agree to trade him (hopefully) to a destination that he would like once his value is at a point where a contender would be willing to pay up for his services. Something tells me that after a few months of non-lockdown hockey he will want to stay. My alternative solution is a little more challenging after yesterday. We have Hughes, Myers and Rathbone that can all move the puck well, but lack physicality and solid positional defence. Trade Schmidt to a team that needs a versatile puck mover in a one for one for a big defensive D. Larsson was my guy but doubt that will happen now. If we can sign Hamonic and Savard/Hakanpaa/someone similar in free agency then unload Schmidt to the team with the best third round pick.
  11. Is Vegas going to change the betting odds after this? Unless there are a bunch of lucrative side deals in place the Kraken are going to be in a lot of trouble.
  12. You really have him on the hook? JB is not even allowed to speak to UFA’s from other teams yet. These signings are completely beyond anyone in Vancouver’s control. He signed a very team friendly deal in Seattle BEFORE free agency opens up. What do you want them to do to stop this? As to Lind, seriously you think this is the big loss for us and needed to be protected? He is an unproven prospect. Personally I prefer Gadj over him. So Benning should have pulled a rabbit out of a hat and traded Lind for a pick (as if any team was lining up to make that trade) and then we lose a different prospect “for nothing”. Every team (except Vegas) is going to lose someone “for nothing”. I’m willing to bet that most of them lose more than us. I heard the Kraken are accepting new fans on their page, perhaps you should go over there. They have Larson and soon might have Lind. They will clearly need your infinite wisdom to plan their cup parade.
  13. While I’m not 100% sure that this is correct but what I’ve been able to dig up is that, “Waivers go in to effect 12 days before the start of the regular season. They last until the day after a teams’ playing season.” The NHL plans on starting the next season in October so my understanding would be that waivers don’t apply until 12 days before the season starts. this quote is from the hockey writers article here. https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-waiver-rules/ I can’t see Seattle picking players like Lind if they can’t be put into the AHL. Likewise that would mean that the Canucks would have to put him on the NHL roster or lose him to waivers as well. Hopefully I am at least partially correct or at least make a little sense.
  14. I have a plan for you: Step 1 - watch a couple hockey games so you can get a feel for the sport, the rules and generally any aspect of this game. Step 2 - Go to other forums or Reddit and see how good trolls go about their business. Take some notes about specifics such as having a point, or learning what the words you type actually mean. Step 3 - this one is extremely important...stop talking.
  15. Your optimism is amazing! A third round pick isn’t nothing...and neither is a third line Center that can PK while suppressing shots at a high level. I’m glad to “base your opinions on what you see” before even seeing him play a single minute on this team. This isn’t football, and it would be better if he had higher face off wins or better skating skills, but would also cost more in terms of assets and salary (which we have very little of either). There are many one dimensional players in the league and they perform well if placed on lines with balance. Quinn Hughes is not know for being very good defensively but his high levels of offence make him a desirable player. This team has Pettersen, Hughes, JT, Bo, and many more that can fill the net. It’s a one year commitment with almost no down side. At least it’s not a six year commitment to an aging vet to fill this role.
  16. You must be a blast at parties with the endless optimism. There are A LOT of players in the league that really only excel on one side of the puck. Chris Tanev rarely made anything happen offensively but few will say he was useless. This is a player that has elite shot suppression stats, is great on the penalty kill and brings a skill set that we can use. Once again I will ask as you chose not to answer, what do you want? You base your opinion on what you see, not what you hope so what do you see as a better option that is available for a third round pick? Would we be better to put Miller in as 3rd line Center and a plug on the wing of the first line? Lots of whining but very little as far as plausible suggestions. More moves are needed, but a team full of offensive minded players makes us the Laffs. Face offs can be taught and we have other players that can help with that too. I would rather see this move than a big blockbuster trade for a bigger name. To each their own I suppose.
  17. What do you expect for a third round pick? He isn’t going to solve all our problems overnight, but this is a decent trade. He is hard to play against, has a reasonable contract and only has one year left. Slitting him in on the third line and getting time on the PK will free up time and space for JT, and in my opinion more importantly Bo. Having Horvat play matchup duty severely decreases our second lines offensive potential. We need to do more, but this is an inexpensive trade that fills a hole in the roster. If he is terrible the contract is up next year when we have more cap space to work with.
  18. I’m with you here. Our forwards will look much better if they aren’t constantly hemmed in their own end. We have Podz coming up this year but the D looks very poor back there. Hughes needs a solid partner (Hamonic would do, but I’d rather see an upgrade) Hughes - ??? (Big defensive first guy) Rathbone - Hamonic Juolevi - Myers I’m not saying that this is a cup winning lineup, but one truly solid d man can bump Hamonic down to show Rathbone the ropes and protect Hughes so he can play his game. Myers will shine with easier minutes, he is overpaid but is still a big man that can skate. our forward lines will do much better without Hughes coughing up the puck, Edler’s drop pass and having players in the right spot. Something tells me that Larson is our guy but time and money will determine that.
  19. Happy Birthday Louie. I hope he has a great day, enjoys that last bonus cheque and is ready to suit up and entertain the good people of Abbotsford.
  20. OK, I’ve been a somewhat optimistic JB supporter and given the benefit of the doubt on most of his less popular moves. If he signs Danault, Hyman or any other aging veteran forward to a $6 X 6 I’m switching camps. Veteran/shutdown/third liners need to work hard, skate well and make somewhere closer to $3 million in order for the stars to fit and an NHL level defence to be on the ice. I’d rather watch another lousy losing season than watch the next Louie collect a massive cheque for 6 more years.
  21. Oh he is already wealthy, no question about it. If he wants to get wealthier than he is now who am I to say no. Someone will likely offer to overpay for his services. I am hoping it’s not the Canucks.
  22. Honestly happy to hear this. It means that a fair offer was made (low term and dollars). I honestly hope someone overpays for him and sends him to retirement wealthy. He has been a warrior here for a long time. Edler was a top notch 2-3 defenceman in his prime that always got slotted in as a #1 because we didn’t have one. Not his fault that the team was not built to suit the players we had. I’ll be AOK if he circles back and signs for a nice hometown discount but if someone want to throw $$$ and term at him I wish him well.
  23. Hyman (Hunan) is a solid player and for a fair price I’d love to see him on our team. JB should (likely already has) make the call to enquire about his goals for a contract. Unfortunately I am willing to bet a large sum of money that the ask will be much more than 3 years at 4-4.5M and we should say thanks but no thanks. We need to clear cap space, fill in the holes on the right side D and wait for Louie to leave the sport next year. Podz is going to help the forward group along with a healthy Petie and I strongly believe we are going to see a very driven combination of Bo and Hoglander taking the next step this year. Please JB, don’t overspend on aging vets...that part of the re-jig, re-build, re-tool whatever is over.
