  1. Why? It's not really an outlandish prediction. These are realistic scenarios. I think that my opinion is based on projection and logic. I don't know what you're opinion is based on because you kinda just throughout some contradictory statements without making a supporting argument.
  2. idk why everyone's scared of trading our next year's first. That pick is probably #10-15 even if we don't make a trade for Barrie and likely isn't an impact player until 2022, when we're cash-strapped from Petterson and Hughes extensions. the time to go for it is this year and next. We have to take advantage of key players on ELC's. I personally would advocate for trading this year's 10th as well if you can get the right top 6 winger for it (i.e. someone better than zucker)
  3. yeah but i mean... he probably will be. canucks don't have better options for his role and he doesn't have better options for teams to play for,
  4. Actually the most physical defenseman would likely be Schenn.
  5. hot take: this is the beginning of the phase out of the orca and in the coming years, the modernized stick in rink will become our primary logo.
  6. came to the thread to say exactly this. those 3rds do grow on you.
  7. Interesting thought I had today... worst case scenario, Luongo either no longer wishes to play, or the Panthers decide hes no longer good enough to play backup in the final year of the contract. At that point, the recapture penalty would be 8.52M, BUT the cap hit is 5.33. It would make 100% sense for the Canucks to trade for Luongo for a 7th round pick, have him retire as a Canuck, and tell him he can enjoy life at home as we keep him on payroll for that last year, effectively saving 3.2M in cap. Not sure if this scenario had been discussed at all.
  8. Todd Bertuzzi Age 22 74 GP, 13 goals, 33 points Jake Virtanen Age 22 70GP, 15 goals, 25 points
  9. Olli Juolevi will not need to be protected in the expansion draft jus sayin EDIT: nvm i might be dumb. AHL service time counts. Thought it was the same situation as Hughes.
  10. I'd be pretty happy with soderstrom as the top ranked RD but I've also never seen so much as a highlight package from him and this opinion is 100% based on him being the top ranked RD.
  11. Something tells me Bo had a conversation with the coaching staff at the end of the year
  12. 1. ur a loser for not being able to disagree with the post without the sarcastic remarks 2. it's how i theorize jim benning views the situation 3. it's not so outlandish considering we have 2 blue chips prospects in goal, a now decent prospect further along his development path signed out of college, and a jakob markstrom that seems to be reaching the potential he was always viewed to have.
  13. *** BOLD PREDICTION *** Just wanted to put this out there before it happens. Jim Benning is planning on moving Thatcher Demko this off season. With the emergence of Markstrom, He views goaltending as a position of strength in the organization and is going to leverage that to fill a need, either for a winger or a defenceman. He trusts that Markstom can hold fort until Dipietro develops, and has signed Kielly as insurance, in case Markstrom faulters at some point over the next couple years. Edit: I didnt really read a lot of this thread before posting. I think other people are discussing this too. I'm quite convinced this is going to happen.
  14. Tbh it can also work out extremely well. See Brock... in year two he's producing about as well as he did in year 1, maybe slightly lesser. Lots of players go through a sophmore slump and then break out again in year 3. We'll likely sign Brock to a 3-5 year bridge contract and save a lot of money after year 1 of that contract as he continues to imporve, giving us more flexibility to sign our other emerging stars and a supporting cast. I agree that its possible you lose out on an extra year of low-cap hit ELC but when you factor in the above and other positive factors of bringing a young player in late in the year, such as a head start on development, giving them an idea of what they need to work on in the summer, and increasing player loyalty but rewarding them with some NHL time and money after a good year of progress and proving themselves, I think bring top prospects in at the end of the year is calculated move that more often than not ends up being a net-positive decision.
  15. Last year people used this same logic to project 45 points from elias pettersson in his rookie season.
  16. You have a good point. EP may come in a hair shy of Gretzky's dominance. I dont think it's unfair to say that given his unique skillset, which includes his mind being one of his greatest strengths, that EP may be the most dominant forward we've seen SINCE Gretzky, in his prime. ***bold prediction***
  17. ***Bold prediction*** EP might actually end up Gretzky-like in terms of how far ahead of the competition he is in his prime. He has a skill set that if he continues to build upon could carry him to having seasons of 60G/80A for 140 points. He'll never put up 200+ point seasons, but thats simply because the game has totally changed and even Gretzky himself would not have put up anything near those numbers if he played today. My argument is that EP may have 140-150 point seasons in his prime while his peers are topping out around 120, which is almost what you could have expected Gretzky to put up in this era in his prime, in my opinion.
  18. I saw him walking down Robson one time and I can assure you he is a big boi. I was actually surprised at how big he is.
  19. Not sure if it still happens but I remember back in the day people would gather outside the parking lot exit all the players leave from and they would stop and sign a few things before leaving. This was back in the wce era though so things could have changed.
  20. Holyyyyyyy you're so emotional every thread bro
