  1. ??? Edit: To be more clear, this guy is at the camp in Victoria and this may be alluding to a deal being done. That's my own speculation though,
  2. came to this thread to post this encouraging pic I found while creeping virtanen's instagram to see if he looks fat
  3. Where'd you get that info from? Edit: nevermind. I see it in the article now.
  4. John Tavares benefactor. This guy has been done for a while now.
  5. Quoting myself because I don't want this video to be lost as the last post of a page.
  6. Not sure if anything throwing out the hate on loui actually watched the video of the media scrum. I honestly have a lot of respect for him showing up and taking the interview. He knew the tough questions were going to be asked. He answered them directly and seemed genuine. He knows the situation isnt ideal but he's taking the high road. He's stating his commitment to the team and his support of Green. He reiterated multiple times that he thinks Green is a great coach and he feels they're on the same page. He said he's willing to play any role he's given. He's being very humble about a tough situation. I think we need to get off his back just a little.
  7. It's what allows them write freely without worry of backlash from ad partners. It's a good content model.
  8. it's generally accepted that the WCE era team was a goalie away from cup contention. The defense was actually great: Ohlund, Jovo, Salo, Sopel, Bryan Allen, and Marek Malik were our top 6. Pretty solid. Clouts had periods of greatness (he was actually my favorite player on that team growing up) but he was very inconsistent and was bit of a headcase. He lacked the calm demeanor and strong mentality that you see in pretty much every truly great goaltender.
  9. a fair and reasonable argument here would site the fact that virtanen is 23 and ferland is 27.
  10. jake really is that big. I saw him walking down Robson one time. I was really surprised at how big he is. beefy boy indeed. players bounce off of virtanen with regularity. I can think think of multiple times people have tried to hit virtanen and have ended up receiving the worst of it. he seems to have a very solid body composition.
  11. I'm gonna marry the two sides of this discussion. It is a choice to use. no one is force feeding you the drugs. but that choice is heavily influenced by trauma, abuse, depression, mental illness, etc. you live your life in pain for so long that when the opportunity comes to ingest something to make it better is almost impossible to pass up psychologically. you're not technically wrong to say it's a choice, but you do lack empathy and a complete understanding of how addiction happens.
  12. is this the new clutch/burrows thread?
  13. given the recent news about peteys big offseason, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that he blows everyone's expectations out of the water and hits 100 points.
  14. you gotta work it to strengthen it. I'm sure they know what they're doing.
  15. Conversely, maybe the PK helps Virtanen cultivate a better hockey sense defensively. I read this post and thought back to playing hockey as a kid, and how working the PK taught me a lot about being defensively aware and positionally sound. Bit of a risk to put someone on the PK because you think it will help their game. Maybe it hurts you a bit short term, but it might actually make Virtanen a better overall player. Aside from that though, JV has the physical tools to be a great PK'er, obviously. The speed, the physicality, and he does have a knack for takeaways. Would be great if we were to turn him into a sound PK'er.
  16. I think smart money bets on OJ and Woo being good top 4's. interesting comparison I'll put past you. edler ehrhoff (two 50 point dmen) Hamhuis bieksa (solid++ shut down) Salo Ballard/rome/alberts/rookie tanev that was more or less or defence when we made it to SCF game 7 vs. the potential of something like hughes oj woo myers stecher rathbone I think the latter has potential to be better. maybe less shutdown ability in that group but more offensive potential. hughes, oj, and woo have 50+ point potential, with hughes potentially being one of the greatest offensive defensemen of all time. also imo oj has a 60 point ceiling. myers is big and can skate but is a bit of weak link defensively. doesnt necessarily put up gaudy numbers but has value. stecher rathbone could end up as a bottom pair that would be a top 4 on most other teams, similar to the depth we had in 2011, maybe better. nothings guaranteed with players that are still developing but I think championship potential is there.
  17. I like it and I don't. I don't like it because it does seem stupid to have a different rule book for the playoffs than the regular season, but I like it because it keeps toughness relevant in hockey. While I hate to see players get hurt, especially when it's head related, and I commend the changes that have been made to the game to prevent those things, the hockey that i grew to love was physical and demanded grit and courage. It's something that really made our game what it is. It was the combination of skill and toughness that set it apart from other sports, and what makes playoff hockey like no other.
  18. for about 20-30 minutes and then you feel useless. it'd be something you have to keep up throughout the game. It would also decrease your awareness a whole bunch. you'd probably end up thinking you're killing it when really you're all over the ice aimlessly. there's a million things i'd rather take to do better on the ice than cocaine.
  19. I think most realize you need to balance both. Skill allows you to win in the regular season, grit and sandpaper allow that skill to continue to win in the playoffs. It's just the way the NHL is officiated.
  20. To be fair, if Juolevi keeps up what he was doing before he got injured, he probably ranks ahead of Teves on that list.
  21. First off, let me just say that I could definitely be wrong about this. Second, I agree that being a Captain isn't the same as being a Manager, but there's some cross-over. Captain's will sometimes need to get someone in line when theyre slacking off/ being diruptive/ not working towards the goals of the team, like a Manager. That's where I could see there being some trouble if the coaching staff feels Bo doesn't command that level of respect with the 30-40 crowd quite yet. I'm not saying this to knock Bo at all. Love the guy. Full of heart and has very strong character, but he also doesn't strike me as your prototypical alpha-male, and maybe it takes his personality type a bit longer to command that respect from all players. And I'm not saying that captain have to be that prototypical alpha-male, but if you're going to captain a team at 24, having that as a natural trait helps. Again, i could be wrong about this. It just seems that Green is hesitant to give him the C and this is my speculation as to why.
  22. He's also 24. Put it this way. I'm 25 and a Sales Manager at the company I work for. I'm in the process of hiring someone. I'm getting resumes from people who are 30+ and I'm extremely hesitant to interview them because I know that ultimately it will be hard for them to take orders and direction from someone so much younger than them. It takes a extremely humble and ego-less person to be led by a younger person. yes, there have been younger captains in the past, but they're usually a borderline generational talent on a team that lacks veteran leadership. These are the dynamics that a coach has to consider when deciding on a captain. Ultimately it comes down to the individual and their ability to command respect. Maybe bo has that, but I understand green saying that he has to make sure whomever they pick is ready.
