  1. Seems like a good projection(s) for him in the Canucks lineup but everything is fluid with the Canucks, right now outside of a spots. Imo, he is gambling on himself with the Canucks but the pay off, if he clicks with this roster would had been far better than POTENTIALLY playing with McD and having an inflated stat total.
  2. That would be a good scenario. Pearson (imo) should be given shut down duty in the bottom six.
  3. Top 6 or bottom 6 ? Don't know too much about him, but the hyped train seems to showcase a player that is similar to Kaprisov. Same stature but not sure, if they are similar in talent ? Guess, we will have to wait & see.
  4. Good points about management style but I've seen it so many times working in the corporate world - that it takes just one lizard to get in and ruin a management group (Weisbrod ?). Anyways, great signing and good chance, he will be a highly motivated individual to perform (1yr deal).
  5. Lots have tried to beat the cycles a team NEEDS TO GO THROUGH but the list of cup champs (in the Cap era) has proven that a deep dive, is neccessary to build up a foundation & culture from HOME GROWN TALENTS. Ofcourse, it will (always) come down to some luck, a GM that holds firm to his/her plan, a well built front office and an owner that know his role. The off ice team is a bigfer focused on some teams vs the on ice roster; and it should be a bigger focus here - imo cause Aquaman is still the architect of the last regime; and we can hope he now understands his role, as owner and be more mindful that he has no clue on how to win a Stanley Cup. JR has the resume but Allvin doesn't and that is where I am tempering my expectations. I am not really big on chasing players when the team has not figured out the front office and coaching staff cause we had seen what the right coach can do: same roster with Green vs Boudreau. Currently, it seems Boudreau is the right coach and JR is the rigth PoHO. Perhaps, a successful offseason for Allvin will help him earn a long-term opportunity ?
  6. Well said: playoff contenders vs cup contender. Allvin has some hard choices to make and I wonder if Aquaman will have the patience to give Allvin a chance - but JRs' 3yr contract seems to indicate that this is a timeline to keep an eye on. I just can't see a quick turn around but I like JRs' optimism and I will be VERY interested to watch, if his HOF experience will be enough to help Allvin with his version of a retool. Wonder which of the Canadian teams will be further ahead, in a few years: the rebuilding Habs or the (ever) retooling Canucks ? At this point, the Canucks is only a real contender for the Purgatory Cup but this year, Vegas beat us to it.
  7. Hirsch is more tolerable when compared to others. Been watching most of the game on mute, when it is not J&J. Good points and I agree, he needs to work his craft more. Atleast, his voice is not so monotone like #####
  8. Yeah, it seems this will come down to the players and the new managements' appetite to keep there legacy: as one team cup champions going or they sell high ?
  9. Malkin seems to be negotiating with those statements that he will PERHAPS take a discount to stay but I am not sure, he will like playing with a soon to be rebuilding Pens. Perhaps padding his stats, a good paycheque and an opportunity to finish with one team, be enough to stay ?
  10. I agree, that some fine tuning will this ordeal better
  11. I think he/she missed your point for creating the post
  12. All it takes is for one (major) domino fall and it snow balls from there.
  13. Basically, Vegas got LTIR insurance and Gorton cleared his books. Seems Vegas, will be in retooling mode for awhile. Very interested, to see if the Canucks will do better in there retool cause both are capped out & a shallow prospect depth
  14. Imo, Jack Hughes was paid for his potential and (mostly) to prevent him from leaving or having the desire to go: Buffalo with Eichel & Reinhart. Right now the Devils, under Shero then Fitz seems to be only doing a good job of acquiring talent (mainly through the draft) but there teams overall record under them, has been mediocre at best. The goal of every team should be to win cups but some team(s)/GM(s) seems to get stuck in acquisition mode vs knowing when to turn the page. Imo, the Devils have an opportunity with the acquisition of Miller, to move there development further along - than adding another lottery pick but Fitz is the GM and I am not so sure, he is ready to expedite his timeline cause it takes a very different mind set to go from acquisition to competing. In Detroit, Yzerman was hired to do a complete rebuild - after Hollands constant retooling had become stale. It would be interesting to see how & when he would transition and if he would have the same success, as he had in Tampa. As for EP, he has been spoiling us since he came here and this past year was his first regression - so I wasn't really buying into the trade EP narrative. Plus, EP understands that signing a high value contract comes with it, certain conditions & scrutiny. Although, another slow start will not make it any easier for him & other high ticket players on the team but that is the way it should be and they understand (maybe, for most ?).
  15. There roster is built very similarly to the Laffs: top heavy, with suspect D and no goalie. Poorly constructed rosters but they both had enough firepower this year to still get in and eventually became playoff fodder against the deeper teams. Same can be said, for the Canucks and atleast with the Laffs and Spoilers most of the $, is going to the playmakers.
  16. You're right after rechecking. Anyways my point: is that he is overpaid - imo but Holland is a veteran GM, so I am quite baffled with the amount
  17. Thanks for sharing but I am on the other side cause Millers' age and demand are not compatible with the teams window. Secondly, there is a market for him, right now and perhaps another 90 plus season might changed, my mind but I would still prefer they sell high, on Miller. Thirdly: his take on the roster is rather rosy (imo) cause even JR has said as much, that the Canucks best asset is having a franchise goalie. I really enjoyed the chase with Boudreau but it was bitter sweet cause going after a top 10 pick would had been a better decision, long term and with very little cap to revamp a D core that struggles against: heavy pressure & fast teams - the Canucks will still be playoff fodder, even if they get in. Right now, the Canucks are close to becoming a member of NHL purgatory - imo. Another point, I disagree on, is his take on the cap going up cause there is a lot of things going on right now, that is hurting a lot of people - that are outside of the NHLs' control. Anyways, good watch and let's see how the offseason goes - fingers crossed that Allvin will have a successful offseason.
  18. Yup, his drafting record is atrocious and the Chief amateur scout is Teflon Delorme (if that means anything to you).
  19. When you mentioned Gaunce, it just reminded, of all the hours I wasted watching Gillis' draft but due to JBs' cutting edge asset management, I was able to take a few years off, for something more worthwhile....
  20. Yeah, they can fill the Abby roster with tweeners (rather than prospects) to make an annual run at the Calder cup and let there prospects develope away from Johnston & Cull - PERHAPS with the help of the newly formed Player Development Department. It is now all starting to make sense: if you want to watch a winning AHL team with a bunch of NHL tweeners then Abby is a good place to go for a cheaper game, whilst watching the top prospects of other teams. BRILLIANT !!!
  21. What you just said, is why Aquaman will never allow or be very hesitant to hire an executive, that will do what Yzerman is ALLOWED to do in Detroit: a full rebuild. So us Canucks fans will always have to settle for whatever version of retool the current GM, will be doing, whilst, most of the rebuilding clubs that have good/decent GM's will be competing for a cup. Would you settle for the Purgatory Cup instead cause the Canucks are in danger of being one of those clubs: not bad enough to get a high pick to draft a franchise player and not good enough to make the playoffs ? Anyways, miracles do happen and PERHAPS in my lifetime they will win a Stanley cup ?
  22. Is there anyone in analytics that can justify Hunts deployment vs someone else ? Surely, someone can find a metric or two that can sell the narrative that Hunt was the best option. Kidding aside, I agree and I just want to move on from the Aquaman & JB era. Now it is the JR & Allvin show with Aquaman on the standby...
