  1. JB agrees, with you based on what I heard during that draft year; and meh cause it is two years away.
  2. Alf: just wondering, which Canuck owner would you prefer, a McCaw type or Aquaman ?
  3. Aquaman is the one common factor associated with both. I really hope the last mess he created in the last regime, has taught him enough about his role as owner - but who knows ? So far Allvin, is off to a good start.
  4. Alf forgot about what the previous regime, gifted Gillis vs what he gave JB. It would had really been nice to see, Aquaman give Gillis a chance, to build his own core cause that opportunity alone would had really shown what kind of GM, Gills was. Anyways, with hindsight both Gillis & JB were getting stale and they both failed despite the participation trophies or picks. As for the current regime, the (small) moves: signing free asset(s), Hamonic trade to clear cap space and the gamble on Dermot seemed like very calculated moves but the true test will come with other bigger name players. I am still cautiously optimistic about Allvin and hopefully, with JRs' guidance he will have an opportunity to lead the Canucks to a cup. JR just has a knack for winning...
  5. All we know,, is that he was disaster here and it seemed that that Canuck roster wanted nothing to do with him. With hindsight, he was right: that the core was stale and it would had been nice to see Gillis sell but he got canned before doing so. I do understand & speculate (somewhat), as to why it turned out the way it did cuase there were some names, in that core that was deemed untouchable and perhaps untradable - lots of IF's but the result(s) has no bias. Anyways, I also, had high hopes for him but we where not inside that locker room; and as we had seen this year - importance, of matching a roster with the right coach and vice versa. The Canucks can keep chasing players and such endeavors only leads to the dismishing of finite assets a club needs to compete long term.
  6. The last regime was a mess and that group includes, Aquaman. The baffling Green extension and how the players performed, under Green vs Boudreau - says a lot about what the players taught about that extension. Imo, all of Aquamans past GMs' needed a PoHO with a championship pedigree to act as a buffer from Aquaman and be a differing voice - but Aquaman clearly deemed a separate PoHO to be unnecessary. Another person that needs to be looked at for the mediocrity, is the (mysterious) AGM Weisbrod - who himself, was a failed executive in two different leagues.
  7. He is currently on a good contract but that whole team struggled. Fletcher the NEW JB ?
  8. It seems with Torts, there is nothing in between. He is a rigid coach like Green but the main difference is that he is creative enough to win: a cup & a winning record vs nothing but mediocrity with Green.
  9. Valid points and NJ would be my preferred trade partner but Philly with the hiring of Torts will be very aggressive to acquire a main piece. Multiple premium picks from them would be a good starting point cause with Torts it either works or not and that means there chance of bottoming out, is really high
  10. Same here ! But they chose Deboer- seems like a better run organization...
  11. Deboer is in - smh. Arizona would be a perfect landing for Green - fingers crossed !
  12. And just like Johanson - he is a FREE asset. Really, hope Kuz plays lights out - earns his next contract and makes the decision of trading some important players, a lot easier to do
  13. Even the 5 OA would be a good starting point but Philly, has a barebones prospect pool. At this point, a Kessel type return (three 1st round picks with no lottery protection) might not be a bad gamble from a team that has the potential of bottoming out and Philly has a good chance, of doing so - imo. Anyways, let's wait & see but the Kuz signing is a good start to the offseason
  14. I get it but my point: it has kept this fan based engaged, in this slow developing off season for the Canucks. Excited to see what happens when the Finals is over and at the draft. We are (obvious) outsiders looking in, discussing & speculating in a Canuck discussion forum; and I agree, JR & Allvin has a number and a (good) plan in place - even JB had a number & plan but he seems to be more compromising with decisions.
  15. What is the rumor with Columbus - are they retooling as well ? Plus, any good assets and I would really like Sillinger but chances, are slim they move him - but who knows ?
  16. The Miller sage has certainly kept all of us engaged and the Kuz addition, is a good feather on Allvins' cap. Imo, the situation with Miller is VERY FLUID and good chance, teams that has had a playoff run this season will be looking to add and Allvin should be asking for the moon. Let's enjoy the Finals cause once it is over the phones should start ringing. The Rags, Kings, Devils and more recently, the retooling Flyers are the teams, that I am looking at, as suitors for Miller with the preference on the Devils or Flyers for the 5th pick (JB' favorite spot).
  17. I got your point: GM's might look pass his history for the reasons he got drafted that high. Of course, there will be some (desperate) GM, that will take a chance on him due to his tangibles
  18. IF he has matured then good chance, the team gambling on him will have a good player - but a big IF, given his history ? I agree and if I was a GM: a short term deal with a good buy out clause, is all I would offer. Right now, he seems to be a good buy low candidate that carries some risk of underperforming any contract; and perhaps with an OV or Alpha type captain he can be kept in line - like Wilson ? And the Canucks, might have one, in Miller but he might not be here cause the Canucks would be better off, selling high on him (imo).
  19. Depends on the GM: Benning vs a Sakic or etc. Some are better at asset management than others and good chance, Kane was motivated by a new contract - hence, the good behavior.
  20. Not sure, I agree as much cause a good synergy among a group, is very fragile and as the saying goes, " one rotten apple ruins the bunch". I get it and due to human nature it can NEVER be avoided cause it seems like, it is the lizards type that tends to be the ones' that are highly motivated to climb up; and good point on the top boss, using them as a useful (but dangerous) bunch cause it is the top dog, that determines how much they can get away with. This season with the Canucks has shown, as much the importance of good & competence leadership group off the ice and it always starts at the (very) top cause Aquaman was the architect of all the regimes that has managed the Canucks...
  21. Imo, the rewards of making the Canucks better gives him the best opportunity to show what he can do, which should increase his marketability among other teams, rather than having an inflated stat total with McD and there is no guarantee, he will even be playing with McD or Draisaitl... I like that he is gambling on himself cause it means, that he will be a very motivated player, which should benefit him & the Canucks - ONLY if he clicks with this roster ? But chances, are good he is a good fit and he will be given the best opportunity to succeed. It will be interesting how the Miller saga will play out cause both will be upcoming FA's and both will also be looking for (big) pay raise.
