  1. Random stat and it’s still early so things can change, but right now there are 10 Canucks forwards close to or currently on pace for a .5 PPG or higher average. This only of course is true when all are healthy and many on here aren’t yet so it’s not only currently active players listed. Petterson Miller Boeser Bo Pearson Leivo Virtanen Gaudette Sutter Ferland And 2 D men Hughes Edler When was the last time almost every Canuck forward we had if healthy would be on pace for 40 point seasons? We always talk about Hughes and the lotto line, so here’s giving props to our secondary forwards for their efforts!
  2. While it is quite difficult to produce with ever changing playing positions at the same time it’s great for creating a better overall player. Virtanen is managing to still get points regardless of where he’s played and he’s learning in all sorts of situations how to adapt and continue scoring. That is valuable experience that can’t be taught. I remember Bo having similar issues with changing line mates. Look at him now, the captain who leads this team and can play in all situations defensively or offensively. How valuable we view him as. Jake obviously likely has a lower ceiling then Bo though. Considering overall how well Jake is playing now after years of struggling and being CDC’s whipping boy maybe Travis Green knows what he is doing?
  3. If he wants to be here or be back home with his family in Quebec he has earned the right to do whatever he chooses. I love the guy and am thankful for the memories he gave us when he was here. Once a Canuck, always a Canuck out here or out east (likely the latter with his young family).
  4. Love this win for Burrows the Dragon Slayer. Gaudette is starting to show flashes of what we all hoped he would become when we first drafted him. The guy has a drive that can’t be taught, it’s hard to put into words, but if he keeps this up he will be on the Canucks for many years to come. Virtanen continuing to improve. Roussel the firecracker igniting the building. Demko deserves a star, he kept us in it. Oh and if we didn’t lose earlier in Pittsburgh 8-6 I’m betting this result probably wouldn’t happen. 2 games since then we were up late with the opposition charging hard and managed to shut the door. Lesson learned. Btw the MVP to me who may have saved the game as we were on our heels can we also give a shout out to the Canucks video ice guy and then Travis Green for calling the coaches challenge on the 5-3 disallowed goal? We were in all sorts of trouble with tons of time left on the clock. John or John didn’t notice, the crowd didn’t notice, the refs didn’t notice, video ice guy does and gets the goal disallowed.
  5. CDC worries about the cap more then those in charge of managing it. And nothing ever comes of the fears. This will be the same as it is every cycle.
  6. We just went through a period where 5 of our forwards were injured and we struggled as a team. Trading away forwards after that seems like a step backwards. We need depth for injuries. No trades needed, especially not a guy on pace for 50 points.
  7. There’s obviously a lot of strong emotions resulting from this game, but I’ll only say this: 2 bad games in a row is not at “fire the coach” level. We’ll bounce back and everyone will forget once we get our full uninjured lineup back.
  8. Have to agree and where he was noticeable to me was in defensive plays. He seems to be showing that he now gets that he has to play 200 feet to stick in the NHL. Blocked shot, takeaways, big hit creating a turnover, smart puck decisions while trying to get the puck out of the Canucks end. He still meanders a bit without the puck, but he’s a lot better then before. Hope he gets more than one game.
  9. Do people here just completely forget Jacob Markstrom lost his dad only 2 weeks ago? Hockey players aren’t emotionless robots. The fact that it’s only been 2 weeks later that he gave a gutsy performance, standing on his head and helping us beat a cup champion speaks volumes to his mental fortitude. Dude lost a parent and still showed up to work. Yeah his play has been more average lately then prior, but these past 2 games have shown him back in form. We’ll see if that continues, but like you said any goalie can get hot streaks and cold streaks on any team, so maybe he had a cold streak. Let’s let him finish the season at least before assessing whether he should stay or go. Personally I’m on the keep him side. We almost got a cup with the Luongo and Schneider duo. I’d love to see history repeat to help win us a cup. If we do trade him, do we know Demko is ready for a 60 game workload? What if he falters and gets injured from being overworked? Do we need to trade for another goalie too? Who becomes Demko’s backup? Can that backup handle starting 20-30 games and play well? There’s a whole lot of uncertainty in that path and given our upcoming window I’d be pretty comfortable having a Markstrom/Demko goalie duo going into the playoffs personally.
  10. Can’t believe we’re still 3rd in the pacific division given our record lately. Guess a lot of teams are struggling this year so far. Hoping to start a win streak on the road trip!
  11. As a Baertschi fan and proponent I completely agree. This team as constructed has gotten points in 11/14 games. Why would Green want to mess that up? In most of our losses we still managed to get a point. Most games we score 5 goals. The only game so far we haven’t been competitive in was the 2nd game in Calgary. If we were losing or an injury occurred yeah absolutely, but there’s an old saying I’m a strong supporter of: If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Knowing Canucks injury luck he’ll be playing games this season anyways.
  12. At this point it looks like signing anyone over 28 long term is probably a bad move regardless of that players skill/pedigree. The game is so much faster then even a year ago and will only continue increasing in speed as veterans get replaced by younger faster players. Eriksson is as fit as can be and has worked hard the entire offseason to improve his skating and he still has trouble sometimes keeping up. At a certain age muscles can’t respond fast enough to improve a players game in order to compete with young guys still developing. The age used to be about 30, but it’s creeping downward due to the pace pickup of the game and effecting even the all stars now.
  13. Couple other thoughts. This season has been vindication for Travis Green. Only 3 outright losses in the first 14 games of the season. 2 of which were 1 goal defeats. Calgary winning by 3-0 is the biggest loss Vancouver has had so far. That speaks volumes. The team is in every single game they’ve played this year. That doesn’t happen by accident. I don’t like everything he’s done as coach at the time, but the results after are hard to argue with. He didn’t make room for Gaudette after a dynamite training camp, played him in Utica had him up as an extra, it felt he wasn’t getting the shot he earned. Who is to know if the way he was handled is the reason for his impressive gameplay defensively and offensively right now? That nothing was guaranteed so he needed to force the coach to keep playing him. 2 goals in 3 games says that’s at least a possibility if not the reality. Another move I didn’t like was benching Virtanen in the 3rd against the Ducks and in OT. I thought he played ok, but deserved more ice time. At that point Jake hadn’t scored or gotten a point in 2 games after his 3 goal streak ended against LA. What happens the next game? He gets the game winner to push our team to victory. So I think though probably every fan has doubts and questions on some of Green’s moves in games or outside of them (I did and still do) I also don’t think we give him enough credit for what he’s doing for the Canucks. Our record speaks for itself on his impact to our team. At last, Canucks fans get to see a 100% healthy Sutter as a 3C and he’s looking a lot like how Benning once described him as a foundational player. To be fair we got to see glimpses here and there, but his injuries took a toll on his body and play over the last few years. And you can tell he’s feeling good by that awesome hit. He’s got some swagger to his game which is well earned. Games are fun in Canuckland win or lose, which is a pretty exciting time to be a fan.
  14. Also the netting camera angle showed the puck flipping end over end barely past the line. I thought it wasn’t a goal when I first saw it. If the puck was on the ice flat it’s a save on that play, but with it bouncing it squeaked by and cemented our win. In Anaheim we got no puck luck, tonight we got a few bounces our way. Hockey gods taketh and hockey gods giveth. 5/6 points on the road and top of the NHL in goal differential. A lot to love in Canuckland right now even without Hughes for a game or few.
  15. Did you see the 2 goals he robbed the Ducks of? Either go in, we don’t get a point. He made a mistake, he gambled and lost. Big deal. He’s gambled and come up big too in other games. I’m stoked we got a point against a team’s goalie that has had our number for years. Sometimes the better team loses. That’s hockey. With Quinn maybe even playing next game we can beat the sharks and get 5/6 points on a CA road trip where we usually get 1 or 2. Boys will be salty about this loss and be extra motivated in SJ. Let’s keep the good times rolling! Go Canucks
  16. Eating: 3 meat pizza Drinking: Hermannator Smoking: Zeus OG It’s the weekend baby! Let’s squash some ducks!
  17. “Goddamnit Popeye, I said I needed a boost to improve my poor game play, but this was NOT what I meant!”
  18. If we stay healthy we’re already a dark horse imo. How many top teams were upset last season in the first round of the playoffs? Once you make it anything can happen. Don’t need Tryamkin to do that. Injuries, illness, referees, equipment, there’s so many potential things outside a teams control that can go bad that will decide future winners and losers, we just don’t know who will be who until after 7 games of hockey played.
  19. Their goalies are good, defense is decidedly not. With our ability to score on every type of shot and play, from anywhere in the lineup I say we stomp them. Let’s keep the streak going! 6-2 Nucks
  20. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. But the arm of Popeye with Doughty’s positioning and reaction is... interesting.
  21. As someone who was thrilled with us getting Brandon Sutter at the time of his trade to us and saw how much of a difference he made when on the ice, to see him at a 40 point pace early hopefully pauses all the digs at him for most of his often injured Canuck career. Guy is a solid 3C that has a 200 foot game and some scoring/playmaking skills. He’s what we wanted Brendan Gaunce to turn into. With a pretty decent contract to boot. You may not have heard, but there’s this hockey player guy named Elias Petterson. He’s pretty good eh? This will change, but right now he’s on a 122 point pace season. Can we call him the new clutch? He can score as we saw today, but his true gift is playmaking, creating open ice with nifty moves and passing it back for a one timer shot. He’s great defensively too. He’s also part bulldozer, taking out Martinez not once, but twice. Angry Petey me like. 4 teams passed on him. Their loss, our gain! Lots of goals, man the Canucks can score. PP, PK, even strength, one timers, greasy goals, rebounds, on the rush, in transition, takeaways, perfect shots, bang bang passing plays, the list goes on. If it’s a way to score a goal the Canucks have done it and in spades. I think the biggest improvement (and reason for winning) though compared to the last few seasons overall comes from our stick skills. We can turn defenders into pretzels, we can rocket breakaway passes tape to tape, break up power plays, we can win more puck battles, we can get the puck out of our end, we win more face offs, we’re getting tip in goals, both in defense and offense our stick skills has increased with basically every single guy on our team. I want all 6 points on this trip and we’ve got the team to do it. Now let’s go squash some Ducks!
  22. Sorry I get the years mixed up in the Sedin era. Maybe it was 2010? I just remember with the Sedins, scoring 5+ goals was a regular occurrence in their banner prime time career years. Not all the time, but pretty frequently.
