  1. It wasn’t the hockey gods who did that. It was the brilliant brain of Jim Benning getting that done. And still so much more yet to come from his diamond draft picks. Exciting future ahead for Canucks fans!
  2. It’s also easy to overlook just how close we are to that team! 7 players on this roster are currently on pace for 40+ points (if they stay healthy): Pettersson Boeser Miller Bo Hughes Pearson Virtanen On the bubble potential 40+ point players: Leivo (out 2-3 months) 19 pts 36 games Edler 18 pts 30 games Gaudette 17 pts 30 games Consistency is still an issue from night to night and more growing pains to come, but give this group (with a few upgrades here and there) a few years of seasoning with some young prospects coming in and it’ll probably look pretty close to that balanced and stacked team.
  3. If booing an opposition player causes us to lose we’re in way worse shape then I thought.
  4. If you think our division is wide open take a look at Group B in the World Juniors: Canada, Russia, United States, Germany and Czech Republic. For the first time ever all 5 teams are at 1-1 after 2 games. Crazy upsets everywhere. Looking forward to a good game to wash the Canada v Russia game bad taste away. Hope we win, I’ll be watching!
  5. LA came back to win in OT tonight, so they don’t have extra incentive to win tomorrow. We’ll either face Campbell who played and will be tired or Quick who this season has a 3.05 GAA and a .893 save percentage. Canucks are going to light it up with 5+ goals.
  6. Definitely agree with you. They’re on their way to the bottom half of the division.
  7. Oilers are in free fall. Lost again tonight. Only won 2 of their last 10 (1 better then SJ, yikes). Canucks are 2 points behind with 3 games on hand. Get ready to wave as we pass them in the standings!
  8. Objectively looking at things we’re 4 points out from the top of the division. 6-4-0 in the last 10. Better than every team except Calgary who has 1 point more then us in the same time frame and Nashville who has 2 points more. Other teams records currently ahead of the Canucks in the division: AZ 5-5-0 VGK 5-3-2 EDM 3-6-1 DAL 5-4-1 CGY 6-3-1 NSH 6-2-2 Behind us in the standings: MIN 5-4-1 CHI 4-5-1 ANA 4-6-0 SJ 1-8-1 LA 4-4-2 Objectively speaking we are most definitely in the hunt for a playoff spot and are playing better then most of our division recently.
  9. The only thing I can think of that could make sense other then this lineup is if Virtanen moved up to Bo’s line (he’s played well, might deserve a shot here) And MacEwen sliding in on Gaudette’s line with Eriksson sitting. Who knows maybe Eriksson surprises, but if we end up losing and he doesn’t do much I hope Green at least gives these lines a shot in the next game or two. Looking forward to the game though hope Eriksson is hungry after not playing. If the Beagle line can shut down the top Penguins line we should have the advantage with their injury woes. Gonna be a good game, can’t wait to watch! GCG
  10. Boeser’s currently on pace for 80 points this season and some people want to trade him? Highly disagree with doing that. He’s 4th in points for all right wingers in the NHL behind only David Pasternak, Patrick Kane, Andrei Svechnikov and Nikita Kucherov. Also tied with Mark Stone. He’s 12th in the NHL in points for all wingers. He’s 21st in the NHL in points for all forwards. He’s a top line forward anyway you look at it meaning $7m-$8m+ will be reasonable with the coming cap increases and I don’t think we’ve seen his ceiling yet after only just over 2 seasons worth of hockey played with the Canucks. Give it 2-3 years; I bet fans will be very happy we kept him. More then that though, he is a character guy both on and off the ice. Do we remember him taking a girl superfan to her prom? Or how he’s donating cash every time he gets a goal to a charity dedicated to finding a cure for what his dad is suffering from? You don’t want to lose that type of player.
  11. You aren’t kidding. Canucks when scoring 5 or more goals: 12-1-1 Canucks when scoring 4 goals or less: 5-14-3
  12. His drive and energy will be a welcome addition when he returns.
  13. Yeah they lost night before last and will be hungry at home. Canucks need to be prepared and have to weather the likely first period surge from SJ. Just got my Burrows bobble head for the Carolina game, which we won. It’ll be out again proudly displayed on the shelf towards the tv. Dragon slayer gonna be a good luck charm this season for our Canucks I can feel it!
  14. Thanks for helping me know who to block. Someone who thinks they know everything about how everyone else should cope with death is not worth quoting in the future. I lost my parents too bro, people take however long they need and if you think otherwise then you might want to talk to other people in your life and get to know someone else’s experiences with death. Cheers mate, you won’t hear from me again.
  15. As with anything in life, loss effects people differently because people have had different life experiences. Some need no time to move forward. Others need years of counseling. Don’t downplay others potential experiences just because yours was easier. Show compassion and patience instead of attacking those who take longer to grieve as having “made up narratives”. Back on topic for Boeser, he’s almost at a point per game scoring rate. He’ll be fine. The one thing I do notice lately is he’s trying to force passes that just don’t work, maybe he’s holding his stick too tightly or has less room as opponents have taken notice of his line and aren’t giving him much space? I dunno, but either way he’s talented and will figure it out eventually. People seem to expect 110% player commitment every shift for 82 games. That just doesn’t happen in the NHL. Even superstars go through droughts. And considering that this right now seems to be his production while struggling a bit with the puck is ample reason to not be worried about his play imo.
  16. Agreed, $150 to spend on 1 ticket for 3 hours of entertainment is not feasible for most people. Watch the latest movie in theaters with concession food with a family of 4 and it still doesn’t cross that mark. There are more and more options for people to do things at less expensive prices these days. Price them at $25-50 a ticket and they’ll sell out like hot cakes. Concession is also getting ridiculously expensive for less and less. Why not just stay home and watch the game together saving over a $200 bill? And with restaurant delivery basically everywhere with multiple companies offering cheap options you can still get better food and spend less not going to the game. A win-win for many. Looks like a lot of fans are choosing to do just that.
  17. 27 points vs 34 points with over 1/3rd of the season passed is actually quite a big difference. At the 2018-2019 pace we would have 71 points at game 82. We ended up with 81 points. At the 2019-2020 pace we would have 90 points at game 82. A noticeable and substantial improvement. Yet to see how many points we end up with of course, but that performance puts us close to/in the mix for a wildcard spot.
  18. Markstrom: Pettersson: Everyone else: I kid, but we got 2 points tonight when most of our conference rivals didn’t get any. The only points gotten were by inter conference games where one team has to win with no extra points all ending in regulation and the Flames beating Toronto. These kinds of wins can be the difference maker in deciding which teams make the post season. We also have won 6/8 possible points in the last 4 games. Thank you Marky! Oh and anyone still talking about trading him is out to lunch, we need him. Vancouver won Nashville lost Winnipeg lost Las Vegas lost Edmonton lost Minnesota won Flames won Arizona won Chicago lost LA won Anaheim lost San Jose lost
  19. In practice yesterday. Don’t know how though. Some say a shot off the head, others say being run into.
  20. This is one of those issues that not all Canucks fans agree with, but I’m definitely now in the “he needs to hang up his skates” camp. I wasn’t before and had been supportive of him taking his time coming back, but after getting concussed in a fight where it didn’t look like he took a punch and getting concussed after a hit on Kerfoot where it didn’t look like he got hit in the head it’s time. The guy has his whole life ahead of him. When you get head injuries twice after just coming back in fairly average hockey play it’s a sign. I wish the guy the best and would have loved to see more from him, but sometimes things just don’t work out how we want. And for the yet to come arguments from the Benning bashers, at least we only gave up cap space. No harm, no foul imo. Still looking for that top 6 guy for Bo to play with. There’s an opening for our prospects now, let’s hope one of them takes advantage in the years to come!
  21. Ferland will definitely get a shot to be back with Bo again. Before his injury they were really looking good together imo.
  22. One of the most atrociously reffed games I’ve ever watched. It was obvious they were in the pocket for Buffalo to win this game. Didn’t end up that way as we put up valiant efforts to overcome game management penalties and came away with the 2 points. Buffalo shouldn’t have even gotten a point, but it’s to an east coast team so whatever. 2 in a row, let’s make it 3 when the Laffs come to town!
  23. I love Goldy and wish he would be on our team for years to come, but it’s obvious to me he doesn’t have the defensive capabilities that are required for anyone not of super star offense status to play in the big league. He will be a tweener NHL/AHL player for life unless he figures out that part of his game. Gaudette at the very least tries to get back when caught out of position defensively. The two are not alike at all in any way other than they are two young guys in the Canucks organization so the comparison between them to me seems a bit like apples and oranges.
  24. Potential trap game for our guys with so long between games coming after an emotional big high win on Burrows night. Having an afternoon start doesn’t help things either. Hoping to pull off a victory, I’ll be cheering nonetheless!
