  1. A lot of back and forth about value of 1st round draft picks vs. Players taken in the 1st round, and while I agree with OP about the fact that once taken it doesn't really matter where a player was drafted and that ALL GMs whiff on 1st round picks, I also agree that 1st round picks and players are extremely valuable. But that value is supposed to come from the fact that higher ranked players have higher skill and will be NHL ready much sooner, allowing for more games to be impactful with more team control than a late round pick as well as should have a higher impact in games. Also a lot of people mentioning that most of the players drafted by Benning playing on the team currently are 1st round picks with the 3 exceptions that have already been mentioned. This just goes back to 1st rounders are typically able to compete in the NHL sooner than late picks. Because, yes, most of the Benning prospects playing are first rounders but the counter point to that is that as of right now 4 of the teams top 5 prospects, not on the team, were all drafted outside of the 1st round. 1. Vasili Podkolzon - 1st 2. Jack Rathbone - 4th 3. Michael DiPietro - 3rd 4. Kole Lind - 2nd 5. Jett Woo - 2nd And as I'm sure many on this board will be quick to point out that they are just prospects and haven't done anything in the NHL at this point, which is a fair argument, I would counter by pointing out that every single one of these players has an XLS% (Expected Likelihood of Success percentage) over 50%. Which means that all them are currently considered better than 50/50 to play at least 200 NHL games based on statistical comparables.
  2. This is a systems problem not a talent problem. Entire coaching staff needs to be let go ASAP
  3. Time for the entire coaching staff to go. After this game it is clearly a problem with systems as opposed to talent. There have been too many times we have been burned trying the same predictable gamble plays. As well as far too passive in the defensive zone for too many years. Really need to get on the phone to start interviewing guys like Gallant, Boudreau or even Todd Nelson or Dan Bylsma I'd even say someone like John Stevens deserves consideration. At least all those coaches have either won at every lower level or are established, successful, experienced NHL head coaches I was optimistic about Green after he took the Comets to game 6 of the Calder Cup finals but he is clearly no longer the coach for this team. We obviously need a change of perspective from the top all the way down when it comes to coaching staff. PK has been a disaster under Brown and Baumer simply has never impressed me as a D coach and this year is a tire fire.
  4. How many times are going to get burned trying to make that stupid #$%@ing pass across the o zone blue line
  5. Price isn't even playing that strong of a game. We just have the worst puck luck I've seen in a long time. Beaten him clean on 5 shots just to hit iron
  6. Pettersson is still doing all the right things in the d zone even if he can't buy a point
  7. Jets lost this trade, hands down. And I suspect Dubois will become disgruntled again once he realizes that he's not going to be replacing Scheifele on the top line and even if he replaces Stastny on the 2nd line the Jets won't be the same offensive force with Laine gone
  8. Except those passes are a huge upside to his game. When they work, they result in plays like Bo's OT game winner in game 2 of the playoffs against St. Louis. I have absolutely no problem with him trying those passes in games, to me the onus is more on the forwards to get better at receiving them. And even though the entire team has struggled defensively to start the year Quinn still has a corsi of 49.3%, the lowest GA/60 of any of our top 4 dmen, is 2nd in the league for Dman scoring, tied for 2nd in the league in points among all skaters and tied for 1st in the league in assists
  9. Eriksson has earned the grief he gets on here but to suggest Myers has is comical. He has had some bad nights but he brings something to the team we just don't have without him. I'd still really like to see him paired with Hughes. Last season when they were together they had the best advanced stats of any pairing, they actually elevated each others games, which is saying something when he is elevating Hughes. Depending on Chatfield's condition tomorrow go with: Hughes - Myers Juolevi - Schmidt Rathbone - Rafferty / Chatfield Obviously not ideal and still super young and inexperienced but can't be much worse than last night
  10. I really hope he gets some decent game time with Brynäs. Still very excited about this prospect, would of liked to see him playing in the WHL but can't complain if he is getting quality ice time in probably the 3rd best league in the world.
  11. Excited to see what they do with the D pairs tonight. Like a few others have already mentioned, I hope they spread the minutes around more evenly, Hughes and Schmidt played a lot of minutes just last night and we don't want to start losing guys to injury and then start burning out the rest. This season may be a sprint compared to others but got to manage the minutes to keep everyone as fresh as possible on all these 3 games in 4 nights series'
  12. I want my games with John and John with the call and intermissions with Irfaan, Murph and IMac
  13. McDavid is like that rich kid whose dad owns and coaches the team so he can do anything and no one can challenge him or they get benched
  14. We have to start skating again. That's how we won the 1st period. Gotta play all 60 minutes
  15. Did they call that little hack on the stick, nowhere near the hands, a slashing penalty on Hamonic?
