  1. And he was directly involved in another powerplay goal. Not gonna get an assist for it but if there was such a thing as a 3rd assist that  would have been it. He's playing big minutes in offensive situations, can tell they're taking a serious look at keeping him.

  2. Just tuned in to the SKA St. Petersburg pre-season game. With all the NHL-drafted talent on that team and not only is Demidov getting a look on the powerplay, he just sniped. Have to think he's got a pretty good chance at making the big club - he's clearly already way too good for the MHL, and a lot more physically mature than Michkov was last year.

Absolutely. Just want to warn everyone again not to put too much stock in his offensive production in the SHL this year. Obviously some production would be nice, but anything over about a half point per game would be gravy. I'd only start to be concerned if he ends up around a third a p/g or less, or if he's having serious injury concerns again.

Even when he's at his very best against his own age group it's always 95% possession plays and quietly, safely advancing the puck into offensive positions, and then just a couple times a game he'll do something where you're like "holy shit, so that's why this guy had one of the best U18 tournaments ever."

But yeah, that Swedish team should be a powerhouse this year, that Djurgardens line plus Leo Carlsson (big question mark if he's there) and Filip Bystedt up front all gonna be 19, and then the D looks absolutely ridiculous with 19 year-olds Havelid, Engstrom, Odellius, Pettersson and then the three 18 year old phenoms Willander, ASP and Lindstein. That's where I don't mind a little it of expectations on Lekkerimaki to produce, and I could realistically see him putting up 12-15 points.

  4. Nice to see my Foudy pick got cheers from a couple smart GMs in the draft thread, because it's the first pick I'm actually kind of regretting. Just hated not having any Avalanche players yet and read a couple articles that the organization is high on him. But honestly I scouted him a decent amount his draft year and wasn't really a fan. I thought he skated around with the puck on the perimeter too much and not enough pushing play towards the net. But at 21 he's already got 100+ AHL games under his belt so it's about time he sinks or swims in the NHL, and his speed and skill seems to be a good fit for the way he Avs play.

    Florida selects Niko Mikkola.

Could contain: Adult, Female, Person, Woman, Baseball Cap, Ice Hockey Stick, Male, Man, Glove, Helmet

    @HighOnHockey

Just the fact that you had the pick ready to make when you got the chance is awesome. Mad props. And congrats.

Nah you just need to realize that prospect pools are based on hype and junior players who most likely won’t become NHLers.

Arizona also had a top pool based on Perlini and Strome.

There is no way to project which teams will be contending in 5 years because so many other factors go into building a team. If it were as easy as having a top prospect pool a team like the Sabres would have been competing for the last decade.

I'm guessing you're just one of these homer posters who will hate anything that doesn't say the Canucks have the best prospect pool?

There's no way to know for sure, but those of us who actually try to figure it out are going to have a better chance at getting it right than people who just say "there's no point, it's impossible".

At the end of the day prospect pool rankings are pointless.

No one can predict which prospects will make it and which won’t. And really that’s the only thing that matters with prospects.

If a team has a bunch of hyped junior players all putting up 100+ points but none of them make it past the AHL what does it really matter?

A prospect pool should be a ranked by how many players from that pool actually graduate to the NHL. But no analysts will actually go back and analyze that because it’s all based on hype and way too early projections.

Would be interesting to go back to their pool rankings from 5-6 years ago and see how many of the top ranked teams actually had their prospects graduate.

This is just utter nonsense is all it is.

I distinctly remember Anaheim having the top ranked prospect pool by all accounts in '05, because that was around the time I started following prospects closely. Same for Boston, L.A., St. Louis the next few years. You can always get a pretty good idea of which teams will be competing for Cups a few years out by looking at the prospect pools. Now that doesn't mean THN or any given source will have it exactly correct, but it's a good place to start.

  9. Current Sens depth chart:

    Robertson - Tavares - Compher

Hagel - Eriksson Ek - Palmieri

    Perron - Johnston - Quinn

    But - Chmelevski - Samoskevich

    Wahlberg

    Gostisbehere - Burns

    Moser - Samuelsson

    Mukhamadullin - Aho

    Lambos

    Swayman

    Driedger

    Alnefelt

Currently Wahlberg is listed as C but is expected to play wing in the NHL. Conversely But is listed as wing but I think there's a decent chance he ends up a center.

Surprised at how many CHI prospects are being taken. Why? Chicago is going to suck for years

At this depth most kids that age won't be making an impact for four or five years anyway. Team affiliation doesn't mean much. In fact you could argue it's better to take prospects from teams in that stage of their cycle, as by the time the prospects are ready you hope the team will be too.
