When you draft players sometimes we will put them in your AHL roster depending if CF has them listed in the NHL or not. Some people are calling up players now that they expect to start the season with to get ahead of the tenure part of the team morale a bit. In all honesty a few days won't mean much, but theoretically the sooner your guys are on the main club the better it will be for your overall team morale.. But again, a few days will be very small once we get going.

I've got a few guys I'm on the fence about. Pretty confident Mukhamadullin makes the Sharks, but not sure about Lambos or Samoskevich. Will it hurt anything if I bring them up and then end up sending them back down?

  2. Seriously stoked to have ended up with Chmelevski. Maybe could have waited a little longer but just wasn't willing to risk it. I ranked him number 3 recently on my CDCFL Sharks top prospects list, and to the extent anybody paid attention I'm sure they thought I was just blowing smoke, but I think this could end up being my gem of the draft. At 23 last year Chmelevski ranked 1st in the KHL in takeaways, 10th in shots on goal, 12th in FOW, 7th in FO% (min 1000 taken), 7th in goals, 9th in PPG, while playing 3 minutes a game on the powerplay and 1:30 shorthanded. He was without question one of the very best all-around centers in the league in his first KHL season.

And have a look at his Vollman from his NHL stint late in the season before he jumped ship to the KHL: https://public.tableau.com/shared/QYTTKT7FG?:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link&:embed=y

This was never a case of a player who fled to Russia because he couldn't cut it in the NHL. When Grier took over the Sharks I think he was honest about the direction the club was taking and Sasha didn't want to wait around through the worst of it, but no way Grier was going to trade him either. Obviously there were a ton of pieces involved in the Meier deal and appeasing a prospect wouldn't rank very high on the list of moving parts, but I'm certain that adding Chmelevski's young Salavat Yulaev teammate Mukhamadullin registered somewhere on Grier's considerations. Still holding out hope he'll find his way back to the NHL before the end of the season, but regardless I think he's gonna be a hell of an NHL player sooner than later.

Slavin was the only person taken in the first 3 rounds that isn't on the 1st or 2nd PP and he was taken 28th overall..

I swear it was about round 14 or 15 I was researching players and for a moment I started thinking - hey, you know who would be a good pick around now, oh wait...

We very nearly picked Samuelsson with our last pick. He's gonna play a lot of minutes with Dahlin, could be an absolute steal if he finds some offense.

My thinking too. Like Mikey Anderson he gets a reputation as a pure defensive defensemen, but both were number one guys on their respective WJC USA teams at 19. You gotta be a pretty good all-around player to do that. Samuelsson put up some flashy offensive numbers in short stints in the AHL too.

I missed hilinka this year I was in camp out of service but Hemming raised my brow.

Yeah I caught most of the round robin but then had to work for the medal rounds. I'm becoming a Hemming fan too. He manages and protects the puck so well with his size, but seems to have some pretty legit skill to go with it.
