Uhhh.. Winnipeg do this because...?
Niederreiter> Garland
Stanley > Rathbone

I thought Avs just ate Johansen's contract and went wtf... then i see the 50% retained, makes much more sense.

More like how much will he get paid? He is not that far from Severson you know.. yet you have him making half as much with half the years... lol.

If Hronek is as good as some here want to believe, he wouldn't have been traded.
Detroit can effectively be bad with him on the roster -- that's been the case during his entire time there.
True. I can tell you the Detriot board was very happy with the Hronek trade. So if your 25 year old #1D just got traded for a 1st and 2nd, most people would probably be upset.
Any way, what matters now is how well Hronek plays for us starting next season.

Bryam is good, but he kinda needs to be sheltered with his concussion history. That's not a good match with Hughes who's not exactly a physical pressence.
Along with the fact the 11th pick in this year's draft is very solid, gonna have to pass on this one.

You must be dreaming if you think Tampa will let go of Cernak. They are still gunning for the cup in the next 2-3 years. I like how this trade gives away all the players we don't want and gets back solid RDs and 3rd line pieces, as if we're playing fantasy hockey.
-
This management better not trade away the 11th pick, that's all i gotta say.

I heard a report they were not as impressed with him after last season and the playoffs. Again, I don’t have a source but if my memory serves me right it was reported.
Not impressed doesn't mean they''ll trade him away undervalued lol. This is the same GM who got a 1st and a 4th for Nils Lundkvist.

Sorry if I struck a nerve. I mentioned Clancy for a reason and I’m wondering if you missed that part.
We need to hit on our pro scouting.
No, no nerve struck. When you say weaponizing cap; I take it we get prospects/draft picks back which I don't think Aqulini paid 19million to buy those lol.
If you mean more like the Brent Burns type of deal, which helps with the retool (buying good players on the cheap with retention too), then yes we should be doing those.

Hey now. May be we can go for Boeser + 2nd for Hanafin. May be we can go for Barbashev.

I think the shrewd move moving forward is taking on 2 years of bad cap with a sweetener. In a player Clancy thinks is an upgrade on oel. Maybe that’s how this deal was sold to Aquaman.
Weaponizing cap is the dumbest thing ever.
We just bought something like 2million of cap 8 months ago with a 2nd rounder trading Dickinson..? Now we do the opposite of that..? Where does that get us? Negative value?
And you are suggesting Aquilini just spent 19million just to buy a 1st or something like that? More like Aquaillini believes strongly in our core and spent 19million so we can retool this team to contend in the coming 2 years.
So anyone thinking we are weaponizing our cap is just wrong.

So basically we took on Arizona's big headache, gave them a 1st and 2nd rounder in the process, and got Garland back as a souvenir.
Joking aside, I'm neutral about this buyout. Unlike most fans I don't see a window anywhere. Not in 2 years (retool won't work with this core), not in 5 years (we are throwing away draft pick as we speak). So if there's no window, cap hardly matters.

Maybe he should have focused on offense. Would you be happy with one of our young players scoring 1 goal in 12 playoff games, or would you think that that's a red flag? I wouldn't be ecstatic about signing that player a month later for 63 million over 8 years. Maybe that's just me
Could be because NJ management actually watches him play every game and think he is worth this money instead of simply commenting on stats, especially for just 12 games in the playoffs. Bratt is basically a point per game player for the last 2 seasons, contract is justified imo. And from what little highlights I've seen of him, he checks pretty hard.

Montreal is sitting with the 5th OA pick, taking Reinbacher would certainly not be BPA. Why wouldn't they set themselves up with a really good centre? They've been crying for centres for years. I just don't see it anyways.
The top 3 RHD's are going to be picked higher than they are ranked. The question is, how high?
I'd like to see the Canucks take one of the RHD's at 11 but a really good player may fall if teams go off the board and take one of the defenders and the Canucks will benefit. Most of the scouts that I've heard interviewed are predicting that at least 2 of the 3 will go in the top 10. Nobody is suggesting that the Habs might take one though
Teams almost always go off the board each year. So I am expecting what we view as top 10 picks fall to us at 11th.

Probably just mailing it in so he doesn't get picked by the Habs ... or really any other team in the top 10. Jokes aside, which team in the top 10 picks would you want to play for right now? Detroit maybe?
Nobody in the top 3 are going to select him for sure, San Jose is likely in for a long rebuild, nobody wants to play in Arizona, Philliy is a disaster, Washington is on the backside of a cliff in terms of age and performance, so that leaves St. Louis or Detroit.
lol yea... have the habs ever thought may be he didn't want to be drafted by them? I mean... their core is Suzuki and Caufield....

Everything's about balance. Obviously this organization is too much tilted to the shortsighted category. Trying to make the playoffs every year is the theme and failing miserably.

Pretty easy run for Vegas. Didn't run into anyone everyone thought was a contender before the playoffs.

For the 100th time, teams around the league are looking to get assets from us for acquiring Garland. We would have to pay them just to get rid of him.
As per Seravalli:
Agreed... But in this case, Rutherford giving Dubas a call. I can actually see us getting a 3rd or more back.

We can draft someone like Matthew Wood, Tom Willander or may be even Michkov/Reinbacher.
No idea why this fanbase is so stupidly eager to throw it away. Just to chase a "retool" that's highly likely to fail based on the results of previous seasons.

I still remember the argument Garland will be better than the #9 pick lol. I'd like to see Garland return a #9 pick now in 2024 or 2025.

Guys need to reevaulate the notion that players drafted high = automatically good.
Jost was let go by both Minnesota and Buffalo. That itself is a big enough alarm bell.

8 years to accumulate talent with almost no trade chips of SIGNIFICANT VALUE TO SPEED THINGS UP. How hard is that for you all to understand?
There will be picks that do not pan out, there will be picks that dont live up to the hype but do not make the impact you were hoping for, but still find a way to make themselves useful.
so if 3/7 first rounders make an instant impact, 2 more need some time and the other 2 dont pan out, your development path for 5/7 players is not the same and may take a few years for all 5 picks to be making an impact at the same time.
Sam Bennett?
Laffrieniere?
Galchenyuk?
Patrick?
Dal Colle?
Strome?
Zacha?
Puljujarvi???
Glass??
Hischier took how long to get goin?
Hayton?
Zadina?
Kotkaniemi?
Dach?
Zadina?
Turcotte?
Byram and his concussion issues
Kakko?
Alll these picks were the same or higher than what JB got to choose from. Its going to take awhile when you are unable to. Some didnt pan out, some guys had health issues, some guys became a different type of player….
Be realistic, this team would have most certainly made playoffs 2 of the last 3 seasons and I would even argue all 3 due to the COVID sh*t that went on and then our piss poor goaltending that threw away last season and arguably sh*t the bed a little too long the previous season.
You are all too focused on the “big picture” and not the whole picture. We missed by 3 effing wins last season, Martin had to be our saviour this season but instead he was our sieve.lol... saying we are even "close to playoffs the last 2 seasons" is the saddest excuse ever.
We were horrible the last 2 seasons.

lol.. Gillis was a great GM to me. I like winning teams. (inherited or not - ridicious argument btw) Luck is part of life, live up to it lol.

Barkov's scored 5 goals in these playoffs.. Playing first line minutes, 20 games, 5 goals. I know everyone says Barkov is underrated, but 5 goals is pretty bad for the player he is supposed to be.
