  1. Podkolzin+ would likely be the asking price for AL which isn’t worth it in my opinion. I say we pass on AL.
  2. My hope is that we can figure it out with Bo and bring him back long term. I know it’s a small sample size but Bo clearly elevated his game in the two times that we’ve made the playoffs while he’s been here (2015 and 2020).
  3. [proposal] Garland for Severson? Severson is traded to the Canucks in a sign and trade. Devils get a decent player at a decent cap hit for relatively long term. Despite his struggles this season, Garland is typically good value for his money. Kuzmenko-Pettersson-Pederson Pearson-Horvat-Boeser Mikheyev-Miller-Lazar Joshua-Aman-Studnicka OEL-Severson Hughes-Bear Schenn-Myers (Dermott) Demko Martin While I don’t think Severson is the answer long term, a pairing between him and OEL should be half decent (and yes, I’m stretching on this) as a pairing taking on the toughest match-ups from other teams. Certainly an upgrade over OEL-Myers. Hughes-Bear should be a strong 2nd pairing while any combination of Schenn, Dermott, Myers should be able to hold their own as a 3rd pairing. I won’t go into too many details here, but I’d also rather see the Canucks sign Horvat long term while using a sweetener in the off-season to move Myers. Hidden bonus proposal for off season: Myers + Pearson + Lekkerimaki to Arizona for a minor return. With that 9 million in cap space, we find ways to resign Horvat and Kuzmenko while making upgrades to our team.
  4. Foote would be a terrific add. I’d absolutely do Hoglander and Schenn for Foote but I’d be interested in finding out as to specifically why Foote hasn’t panned out in Tampa. Victim of depth? Lack of work ethic outside of the rink? Foote excites me but I’m wary about moving Hoglander. Hoglander has a terrific attitude and work ethic, combined with skill, and so I’d be careful in moving him.
  5. No team is going to trade #1 overall. Boeser almost has negative value while Rathbone is a B+ level prospect (decent but not elite).
  6. Why would Chicago make this deal? They’ll get a kings randsom at the deadline in the form of picks and prospects for Patty Kane.
  7. I wonder how this color scheme would look with the flying skate? If it wouldn’t be a good match, I’d just keep this.
  8. You’re right as rain. We do have one of the worst fanbases and media in all of pro sports. The media convinced the fans that moving JT Miller was the best thing to do in the off season and then threw a tantrum when management went in a different direction. Now? Miller has become one of our biggest whipping boys amongst the media, HF Canucks, Twitter, 650 Sportsnet, etc. Welcome to the new “modern” Canucks market littered with warped radical left wing nut jobs.
  9. I suspect that the Canucks are mentally weak and simply allow certain things to get into their heads. Case in point - we blew a lead against Edmonton in our first game. What happened next? We blew multiple goal leads multiple times over the next few weeks and set an infamous NHL record. Getting blown out at home and inhaling urethra has become the new blowing multiple goal leads. Wonder what our next mental yip will be?
  10. It’s not about me undervaluing top line centers while overvaluing elite top pairing RD’s. What I’m trying to say is that the Canucks are so unbelievably f**ked on defense, both short term and long term, that they may have to Atleast consider doing something drastic like my Petey idea. Like it’s to a point where even if we had McDavid and Drai instead of Petey and Bo, we *still* wouldn’t be an elite team due to our god awful defense and team defense. Yes - losing Petey would be a massive blow, but I still think a lot of those gaps could be filled up front. Miller not cutting it at center? Sign a 2nd line C during UFA and move Miller back to the Wing. Anyway - it’s just a suggestion. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Petey, but trying to win games 5-4 and 6-5 night in night out is not a long term recipe for success. But hey - if Horvat and/or Miller can land that elusive top pairing RD, then I’ll drive them to the airport myself.
  11. Totally agree but you, and most others in this thread, missed my main point unfortunately. 1) Even without Pettersson, the Canucks could still realistically be/become strong up front both short term and long term. Horvat and Miller as your 1-2 punch at center isn’t ideal, but is still pretty decent. Now, add in a decent 3rd line C as part of the Pettersson deal (ie Petey+Schenn for Dobson and Pageau) and all of a sudden, your depth down the middle would still be considered pretty solid. Re-sign Kuzmenko + possible emergences of guys like Podkolzin and Lekkerimaki, and all of a sudden, the Canucks could have a realistic shot of being quite solid up front. Being a team of depth + rolling four lines as opposed to being too heavy……which leads me to point #2. 2) Our defense is completely and utterly f**ked both short term and long term right now. Other than Rathbone and the other Elias Pettersson, we literally have nothing in the pipeline (Woo still count?). Hughes cannot carry a top pairing while OEL is barely a #4 defenseman these days (and he was specifically brought in to take on the toughest assignments to alleviate pressure from Hughes). Long story short, the Canucks’ biggest organizational need right now is a top pairing two way right sided defenseman that can elevate Hughes to the top pairing……and getting this piece is the most difficult piece in the NHL to draft/acquire. Guys like Ethan Bear, Zub, Fabbro, etc. are all decent pieces, but these guys won’t move the needle because they don’t address our biggest need. Even back in the Summer when radical left fans in Vancouver got excited about acquiring Nik’s Lundquist++ for JT Miller, I just sat back and shook my head because these fans clearly didn’t realize what our biggest need was. Yes, NL is an RD, but he’s an offensive puck moving RD which doesn’t fulfill our biggest need. Furthermore, he’s not an elite top pairing calibre guy nor is he projected to become that type of guy. In a romantic fantasy world, trading guys like Horvat, Miller, Boeser, or Garland would fetch you that top pairing two way elite RD but the truth of the matter is that they won’t. Pettersson is literally the only guy that would fetch you that elite two way top pairing RD (or someone that is projected to be that guy). Hence, my idea of Petey and Schenn for Dobson and Pageau while signing both Horvat and Kuzmenko to long term deals. Future Kuzmenko-Horvat-Podkolzin Mikheyev-Miller-Hoglander Pearson-Pageau-Garland Joshua-Aman-Lazar Hughes-Dobson OEL-Bear Burroughs-Whoever Demko Martin We find a way to move Boeser and Myers for cap space which can allow us to re-sign Horvat and Kuzmenko, plus future RFA’s, etc, like Podkolzin, Hoglander, and Bear.
  12. Horvat should get the same contract as Miller at the very least imo. Management is at fault for not offering him this. What they should have done is walk away from Boeser this past Summer is money for Horvat was going to be an issue.
  13. Neither Miller nor Bo will get you a top pairing two way right shot defenseman that can elevate Hughes to form a premier top pairing. This is what we really need.
  14. I’m not sure if our Core is good enough. 1) Given Demko’s injury history, will he able to return to his form from the past two seasons or is what we saw earlier this season (ie Ellen Degeneres) basically the new Demko? 2) Is Hughes truly a top pairing defenseman or is he a guy that can make a top pairing great provided that he is playing alongside a true #1 dman? I’m inclined to say the latter. 3) I love Horvat and want him to stay, but management seems to disagree, as do many of the radical left media and fans in this city. Sad! 4) Boeser, whom you understandably didn’t mention, is also Ellen Degeneres at this stage of his career. 5) I hope that Kuzmenko can become a core player for us but I don’t think we’ll be able to afford him. 6) Miller likely will never return to his form from last season but I do believe that he’ll have 3-4 more seasons of how he played his first few seasons here before dropping to his knees and going into decline. So long story short, I’m not sure if this core has what it takes since we have too many bad contracts. By the time Myers, Pearson, and Boeser come off the books, guys like Demko and Hughes will be close to contract expiration…..and we’ll still have OEL who is also Ellen Degeneres at this stage of his career.
  15. Agreed with this 100%. The Flames *might* do Boeser for Lucic (value is similar despite Lucic being the inferior player since his 'bad contract' ends this year as opposed to Boeser's bad contract ending in 2-3) but I can't see them doing AM for BB.
  16. Well, it’s only a problem if the new club gave her an extension but if not, maybe you can resign her in the off season?
  17. 1) he has always been very poor defensively. 2) As proved last season, he has other positive attributes that would justify his cap hit (his offensive production during his tenure as a Canuck, his leadership, etc.) In my opinion, the crucial mistake Alvin/Rutherford made was in re-signing Boeser.
  18. There is nothing wrong with Miller. He’s doing pretty much everything he’s done since he’s been here. Unfortunately, many radical left media and fans have decided to make Miller their whipping boy since they disagreed with management’s decision to keep him. It’s unfortunate, but Canucks media is one of the pettiest media in all of pro sports. Many fans on Twitter and HF Canucks act in a similar manner. Sad! Personally, I don’t think rebuilding is an option for this team as we have too many unmovable contracts to truly commit to a rebuild. We pretty much have to go all in with this team. In my opinion? We should sign Horvat and Kuzmenko but find a way to move Garland and/Boeser for cap space. Use a sweetener to move Myer in the off season if necessary. Hopefully, a healthy Dermott can replace Myers.
  19. Ideally, yes, but are Miller and Boeser moveable right now given their contracts? Even if they, what would your expectations be in terms of a return? As crazy as this sounds, I’d probably think about a Boeser + Pearson deal to Chicago for Seth Jones if the Hawks were interested. Yes Jones is an awful contract but he’s still youngish and might get his game back on track in a new environment. Our RD and defense in general is so awful that perhaps we’d need to take a gamble on him. Put him with Hughes and see what happens. As far as Garland goes, either move him for a 3rd line Center or move him for cap space. Maybe you could then move Miller as a pure cap dump and then use that money to resign both Horvat and Kuzmenko. Other than that, I have no idea what and how we should proceed.
  20. Canucks *might* surprise here since they’ve been really good on the road lately. That being said, I think the Oilers take it 5-1. Draisaitl
  21. My line of thinking in creating this thread was as follows: 1) Even without Petey, we’d have Horvat and Miller up front as a 1-2 punch, plus a pretty decent 3rd line C coming back in return for Petey (my final proposal was Petey to NYI for Pageau and Dobson). So ultimately- we’d have Horvat, Miller, and Pageau as your center men with Pageau taking on your tough defensive matchups and being our “alpha” penalty killer while Horvat and Miller focus on offense. In the system, we’d have Podkolzin, Hoglander, and Lekkerimaki who all have a reasonable chance of getting better. Klimovich as well. And if the Canucks were to get better as a team over the next 1-2 years, we could fill the gaps with free agency (guys like Myers, Pearson, etc come off the books over the next 2 seasons). On defense however, we’d basically have our version of Keith-Seabrook established for the long term in Hughes and Dobson. A guy like OEL could either be a #4 and then ultimately buried on our 3rd pairing long term if necessary. Bear would be a part of our 2nd pairing. That’s the structure that I had in mind. My concern for our defense right now is that our structure is completely messed up AND we literally have nothing in our prospect pool on defense. Jett Woo might not even make the NHL while Elias Pettersson (the dman) likely won’t be a top pairing dman.
