  1. i guess the degrees of badness are just new to me. and while i'm not sure the information is important for me to know, i do find it interesting. like, for example, i had no idea radiation does what it apparently does, as depicted in episode 3. it's so bad that i assumed the show was exaggerating. did my share of googling after the episode and nope, seems 100% accurate so i guess what makes it compelling IS how bad it can get, how bad the politics were, how bad the environmental damage is/was, how bad the health risks were - i knew, but did i really know? not really i just wish there was a fact checker scrolling across the side of the screen so i could see what is an exaggeration or what is accurate
  2. one of the world's great basslines dodododod
  3. that's funny. I just came into this thread to say I finished episode 3, and I was going to praise the show for its great consistent tone of dread throughout. the show gives me a nonstop uneasiness, and i kind of love that.
  4. took a few different types of CBD - each bottle more expensive than the last - over a few months some time ago. my friend in the industry who was selling them to me noted there is an assumed increase in quality in various products - naturally, with that increase in quality, the price went up up up. but she also emphasized there is no regulatory body checking for efficacy or quality control or dosing or anything like that. everything was second hand information, usually trickling down from those who benefit from the product being bought for all i know, i was using a bottle of olive oil. i remember one day when i was feeling particularly anxious, i felt better soon after taking. but as an aside, i was also suddenly heavily distracted. another day, i had a terrible headache and took some as a last resort. headache did go away soon after. as a migraine sufferer, i tried this a few times with no matching result. so, for me, CBD is a bit of a dud until there's some sort of regulation to ensure a consistent product and some sort of legit scientific backing to show its efficiency at dealing with X, Y, Z issue. as it stands, the only thing CBD consistently did for me is drain my bank account. then again, maybe i just resist it somehow. knowing how its being sold by those in the industry makes the cynical side of me view it as trendy snake oil, but i hope it does prove to have some value (INDEPENDENT OF PHARMACEUTICALS) because i'd love to never buy advil etc ever again.
  5. yeah, I've read that too - but he always says things like this. he once offered to make a movie for free if United Artists promised not to put Manhattan out. he hates everything he does - maybe this hate is more justified, but still
  6. it's me, the great Woody "innocent" Allen apologist, here to overrate another Woody "didn't do it" Allen project that was widely hated by critics and ignored by normies a crisis in six scenes: 7.5/10 I started this series when it first came out and couldn't even make it through the first (25 minute) episode, I was just so instantly bored. but something's changed (maturity? boredom? increased apologetics?). and so I re-watched it and really, thoroughly enjoyed it. nothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing Woody being nervous, and that's basically what the series is: Woody pacing. occasionally Miley Cyrus' two front teeth make an appearance and do their best to ruin it, but Woody "not a pedophine" Allen saves the day with his old man schtick, which is nothing short of cozy.
  7. unfortunately my score is a -1 for the net negative experience of watching austin powers. its actually kind of shocking how often they use his catch phrases as punchlines
  8. austin powers: -1/10 addams family (1991): 6.5/10. started watching this, and it was actually kinda cute and moderately funny and i was kinda turned on at the intensity between morticia and gomez. but then i fell asleep, so i have no idea what happens in the next 45 mins and i also don't really care, so idk
  9. Can you not access the iCloud through PC?
  10. deadwood movie: 10/10 the movie had a few things i didn't like (flashbacks, not enough EB), but it's such a sweet, enjoyable way to cap the series without seeming like fan service. really nice to reflect on the depth and complexity and humour of the show/movie, especially after the fun-but-totally-shallow Game of Thrones experience. i feel like i could watch this again and pick up on a lot that i missed, and that's part of what makes this series so good and unlike most others. David Milch is a genius-tier writer, shame to read about his alzheimer's diagnosis earlier this week
  11. Even vegetarian sushi? or like a yam tempura sushi?
  12. been into some weird sh-t lately short films of david lynch: 5/10. not particularly enjoyable, but interesting to see many threads and images from his early work that kind of grew into other ideas in his later work eraserhead: 6/10. lmfao elephant man: 10?/10. wonderfully shot, great acting, great story. i guess my only complaint is that it drags a tiny, tiny bit towards the end - oh, and john hurt's drooling sounds multiple maniacs: 4/10. early John Waters movie I hadn't seen, might be the first with the Dreamland crew, and my god it's terrible. watching it is excruciating, but now that it's over i can sorta laugh about it.
  13. well yeah true so only some targs are fire retardant apparently. but since dany already walked through or sat in fire a few times before, i feel like it would take a pretty cringy leap for her to suddenly be easily burned based on her morality either way, i personally didn't mind how dany went - i thought she had some really great scenes in the finale, actually. surprising for me, as i couldnt stand her character
  14. the first sentence gave me a laugh. i was trying to wrap my head around the dragon's rejection of the symbol but his embodiment of its symbolism, but i guess i can't. in the end, i suppose i just don't really care about the dragon's opinion of killing children, so the act (hollow as it was) was good enough for me simply by virtue of its emotional implications (aww, cute sad dragon) i've heard good things about killing eve, but barry didn't do a whole lot for me after the first season
  15. for me, gots was about the experience - watching it, talking about it with friends/family - it was such a painfully simple yet involved show that anyone and everyone could speculate on and discuss, and i really, really loved that i never thought it withstood much scrutiny, and i've whined endlessly on how the plot has been hinged on convenient and totally silly plot devices from the start, so i'm not going to dock it more marks for continuing to do that until the end but now that it's all said and done, i actually don't feel upset about it. i enjoyed a lot of the finale (thought much of it was really nicely shot, in fact). i thought the dragon blasting the chair was wonderfully poetic. i didn't really care for how jon's story ended, and i thought the way tyrion's story was wrapped up was particularly weak - but in the end i felt like the show lived up to exactly what it's always offered, and not much more or less. maybe this is because i didn't particularly care about jon or tyrion all that much in earlier seasons? either way, i'm definitely sad that it's over and won't have much more to look forward to on tv for a bit. siiiiiiiiiiigh
  16. mid90s: 6/10 directorial debut by jonah hill, which i guess means something. a24, which means a lot hate most coming of age stories, hate most nostalgia pieces. this one was doomed from the start, but 6/10 aint bad. unfortunately, it's fake, fake, fake. it's one thing to make a movie about the past, it's another to try to make your movie look like an authentic document of the past - especially when those authentic documents already exist in droves. like, even the aspect ratio is straight out of 1995. the soundtrack is straight out of a 2014 article on "best music from the 90s." don't get me wrong, it's a great soundtrack, but i don't buy it. too much today, not enough yesterday. outside of the homophobic language, much of the dialogue was tailored for contemporary sensitivities, too with all that said, it was pretty enjoyable. floated by. reminded me of actual 90s movies and 90s culture, for better and for worse
  17. been struggling at 10-11k the last couple of days, wouldnt be surprised if it plummets back down a fair bit
  18. thought the episode was alright. definitely had me on the edge of my seat, but i felt unsatisfied by how some of it went down - the cersei thing especially. was hoping for something way better. waited and waited for that hound v mountain, but felt let down by it. really wanted him to live, even though i know it was unrealistic REALLY hated Varys dying. he was one of my favourite characters, and i felt like his death was SO pointless don't mean to nitpick, but seemed super odd to me that the dragon fire could blast an entire castle wall down, entire buildings down, everything, but then some people would just walk around burning after being hit by it too
