“Michael Matheson got undressed - and that gives you the right now to slam a guy on the ice? Maybe in the Octagon, but not in a hockey game." - great quote by Craig Button

@Mike Vanderhoek Are you blind and dumb? People are not complaining about the hit. People are complaining about what came after the hit, when the puck was nowhere near Pettersson.

pretty good eye sight thank you, I am a technician in the field of medicine so I can only assume I am not dumb either. Not really cool remarks, you should maybe edit those.
There are some complaining about the hit, most complaining about Matheson tossing EP aside after the hit ( which one only has to go on youtube and watch footage of this type of play, very common ). The issue was EP didn't absorb the hit well, maybe we can attribute this to being 19, having played in what ? 5 NHL games and being a kid vs a man ? take that into account and the kid when tossed aside was not in a position to pushback and literally just got tossed to the ice. The head was not targeted, maybe it hit the ice afterwards but it is a common play in hockey and not really ever brought up.
Its because he is a young star in a hockey crazy city that so many seem to be losing their minds, I am happy the league would look into this. Young exciting players should be protected for sure, but you also have to be strong enough to handle the day to day hits, slams, pushes too.
Had Gudbranson done this to a young forward, the same people screaming right now would be praising him for being physical then you'd be complaining that the League would look into it.

The issue I have is that it is not a hockey play. There is no need to pick up EP and slam him to the ice. Certainly a play with malicious intent
